Hello guys.
My name is Dr Khairul.

I'm a long time lurker in this forum before registering.
I'm a dentist by trade.
Currently practicing in Putrajaya.

I believe this is the right subforum. (If not, mods please advise)
I have been wanting a 3D printer but could never justify it just for a hobby.
Now I can use it for my daily work as well (Kind of an excuse to buy a toy actually tongue.gif)

So here it is

I believe we're the first dental clinic in Malaysia to have an in-house 3D printer.
Anyone else own or have used FormLabs 3D printer?
Anything you guys want to know about the printer or what I do with it?

Nice!

I'm guessing you print the clients' mouth structure (like the ones above the printer)

1. How much issit?
2. What's the speed?
3. Are the mats expensive?

Yes I print dental arch models, surgical guides for dental implant placement, models to do clear aligners (like Invisalign) etc.
Of course some toys just for fun biggrin.gif

1. Cost me about RM18k including shipping & gst (duty free)
2. I don't have experience with other 3D printers. Speed is decent I guess. My work require submilimeter precision so speed is secondary to me. Can definitely use more speed though.
3. Very. 1 liter standard resin is US$150. FDA approved dental resin is US$399 rclxub.gif

That's freaking expensive but then the printer is mainly used by dentists/surgeons I guess. There are some entry level 3D printers out in the market costing around 3 to 5k with single colour resins around RM 0.50 per gram.

Not submilimetre precision of course lol

Yeah. FDM consumer printer is no where near the required accuracy.
For me, Formlabs Form 2 is the bare minimum printer for dental use.
Anything less, is just a toy.
Still not accurate enough for construction of dental crowns or bridges though. For that, we'd have to go for the commercial printers costing in the 6 digits.

Nice SLA printer. I always wanted to get one but don't have the budget for it yet.
