My housemate uses Jaring FLITE to connect to the internet from home (i use Streamyx).

http://www.jaring.com.my/broadband/index.h...ackage#wireless

The results of the tracert to 209.85.51.151 last night using Jaring FLITE was really interesting.

Total: 17 hops

Seems to be connecting via HK before hitting US, once the packet left Malaysia at about the 11th hop or so, latency was averaging 330ms.

Compared to some Streamyx tracerts posted on these forums, the latency is hitting 600-700ms from our so-called "good" IP addresses (e.g. 218, 219.94).

I tried comparing with Streamyx tracerts last night, but i kept on getting "Request Timed Out" after the second hop to the Streamyx gateway (but playing WoW was ok though, about 500ms last night with 218.111.x.x)

I didn't get a screenshot of the tracert last night, but this is what i remember. Didn't get a chance to try and use FLITE to connect to WoW, will try over the weekend and post the results.

Anyone using Jaring FLITE now? What are your experiences?

Interesting. But does it give consistency ?? Meaning, when your mate disconnect from the ISP itself and reconnect (so the dynamic IP is renew) and how's the connection like ?? If each IP given by JARING is consistent, this is something I dont mind to pay extra for. I'm tired of hitting the reconnect button to get the 218.111.xxx.xxx IP.

Btw, is there any area limitation for using JARING ??

Intereting...pls do keep us updated.

TheNameX: There is limitation on Jaring coverage however. As far as i know, my area arent cover. cry.gif

else, i would've been a jaring subscriber now.

No my friend doesn't play WoW. But i performed the tracert to the WoW login servers last night from his PC.

Jaring Wireless FLITE comes with its own radio-frequency box made by SOMA. Quite simple to use, just plug into the power, plug in the LAN to PC, and ON. That's it. No dialing, no ID or passwords or anything else. Immediate connection to the internet.

I think this is the link to the product used: http://www.somanetworks.com/flexmax.html

I will conduct tests over the weekend to play WoW using Jaring FLITE and post results here.

I sometimes wonder about that in-game latency meter. There are times when I get 600 ms and it's still playable. Other times it's plague by bad lag spikes of 5-10 secs.

Best test is do 40-man raid. If can survive that, got a good line then.

anything past 600 = NOT playable
but yea i am a pvp'er and i am a melee class to add it in (rogue)

and for your tracert, anything past 300 = bad wow pings
must be under 300.

and... jaring = riding lagmyx's crappy gateway/internation link
so ultimately, not much difference between the 2 company, cept, lagmyx service/customer support blows while jaring is pretty good.

Jaring support is superb, straight to the point and gets things fixed. My average latency is 450ms, 360 is common, seldom go beyond 530 and rarely ever reach red. About consistancy, theres only 2 types of IP, and both works the same, no IP hunting bullshit. Mine is wired however.

I remember seeing a WoW posting in the WoW Technicial Forums saying that most regions outside of US will have pings of 300-500 ms or thereabout-ish. That includes Oz, NZ, South America.

If I can get onto 100-200 ms, I'm more than happy already liaw.

Due to the geographical distance between Msians and the servers of WoW hosted in the US somewhere.. it'll be close to impossible to get 200ms and below at the moment. If youré right at the data centers.. you might get about 180ms or so.. that's the best I've seen for a connection to the US servers.

800ms is playable by my definition. If you're a healer and you're raiding it's likely you will get people killed tongue.gif Its playable, but tedious.

Wireless tech for now will never compare to landlines in terms of latency. That said, to see that Jaring FLITE tech can get 100ms for their first hop, it is already quite amazing for a wireless device(though it'll never compare to my sub 20ms to the nearest telekom exchange via landline streamyx).

Support wise, jaring probably have a smaller customer base. makes it easier for them to attend to you. tmnet has a gazillion of customers.. so.. yeah. take a number and wait tongue.gif

you would probably also like to know who is their immediate upstream and whether that upstream is as close to WoW servers as possible. for this you probably need to get some networking guru to help you dig out these information. tongue.gif

lag spikes - you'll get them with both providers. it could happen due to disruption to the international links or maybe poor copper quality at your homes, or the wireless (although the claim nothing disrupts it), you might still get some sort of interference at some point tongue.gif

ran out of 2cents.
