hey guys, planning on fitting a house with xiaomi smart home devices; primarily some gateway hubs and door/window sensors to make a rudementary alarm system

but since unifi has recently been having connectivity issues, i was wondering if these devices can still function without internet connectivity? (operating strictly on LAN)

my most concerned use case is if i arm the alarm system using xiaomi home products, and the internet goes out; will i be able to disarm the alarm? and also, will the alarm trigger if there is no internet connection?

hope some of you guys can help me out, thanks!

Safer to buy those with GSM at least if you are away from home your HP will still be trigger. Basic telco plan is not expensive.

yeah, most likely will have to go with one of these
i have heard that most zigbee connected devices will still be functional even without internet connectivity, but its probably best to be on the safer side.

Can still work without internet once you set it up cause it’s using zigbee to communicate between sensors, switches and the hub. You only can’t use your phone to control or view any status.

"open door turn on all the lights" is easy.

but "Close door turn off lights but if someone in the room it stay open" i don't think so.... unless you are lucky to trigger the motion sensor while you closing the door.
The motion sensor has some delay time as well..

or you may set the automation of "Close door turn off lights" to disable once detected motion. But when you wanted to enable it is another setting.

yea exactly. i find that xiaomi cannot handle complex scenario. they can only handle very very simple ones.

there is also a delay between command. i think they purposely add this in to stop a flood of instruction to their servers. let say u set turn off light + delay timer, once triggered, the light turn off and if within let say 1 min u walk into the room, the sensor dont wan to trigger the turn on light because of this. it will wait until about a minute or so only excuting next instruction. so for 1 min u in the dark. only after tht 1 min u hav to redo the trigger to move then only it start execute again. they dont even put it in queue.

I think the easiest to overcome this is to turn on all lights with switch but I thought if it uses gateway there no delay since its handle in the gateway via Bluetooth only delay comes from phone command?

previously i was using this "Mijia Mi Smart Home Gateway 3 Bluetooth Mesh Hub Zigbee 3.0" with mihome app
https://shopee.com.my/Mijia-Mi-Smart-Home-G...5082.3815507160
i had a switch to turn off all downstairs light & fan. It is noticeable that the switching off process was slow and did it one by one.

Recently i changed to this "New Aqara Gateway M2 Support Zigbee3.0" and using Aqara app (cause mihome don't support this).
https://shopee.com.my/product/72563668/7462016661
I bought at RM152 from the same seller, out of sudden increased to RM335 now..
The same turn off all downstairs light & fan button react fast and no delay.

No idea it's the app or the gateway issue. I am pretty sure my automation is "LAN" and not "cloud"

its using gateway + motion sensor. still have delay. my gateway is version 2

because i need a delay longer than 30 min. motion sensor detect no motion up to 30 min only. anything above that need to add delay. but the delay command once queue cannot be un-queue by sensor motion again. so sometimes when i still in the room, the light turn off anyway sweat.gif
