I received it every year since I started using FSM for UT investment.

Every year, I was hoping FSM will give me service charge special discount voucher in the angpow. Of course, that never happened.  dry.gif

I thought it is a discount voucher also, but it ended up as Wishing you a happy CNY. Haha....

when we send our vehicles for servicing we get leather wallets and Keychain but then again we don't have 100k to 200k in fsm so just be happy we get ang pow packets from them. lol.

ummm.... as they say beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. pretty or not this wonderful woman just managed to grow a fund to such heights. at the time of posting, KGF is now myr 1.01 per unit. she is good. her awards say something so yeah.

I rather they don't charge bond fees instead of giving angpow. Will look into eUT to prevent them for charging in the future vmad.gif  ranting.gif

bond fees are negligible. it's those poor sods who have under performing funds that I pity.

returns less than FD and on top of 1.8% service charge. oh well this is way better than keeping in the bank where the money shrinks before your eyes.

QUOTE(dasecret @ Jan 11 2017, 09:08 AM)
Ok, this is what I'm taught + what I try to practice

Rebalancing - Say the intended allocation to global/developed market funds is 15%; and at the moment it forms 18% of my portfolio; so I would switch out the excess 3% into other allocation which is currently less than intended allocation, say Malaysia equities and Msia bonds.

For accumulation phase, the 'rebalancing' can be done through VCA; instead of buying various funds using intended allocation; I'd stop buying global/developed market funds and focus on the under performing allocation like MY EQ and MY FI until it goes back to my intended allocation

As to how to tell if a fund is the top pick of the segment - do peer comparison lor. Now I like to use https://iportfolio.com.my/screen
But don't jump ship every month or quarter la; the fund performance tend to fluctuate depending on fund manager's strategy. ponzi 1.0 is a good example; if you look at 3 years returns it's not fantastic; but 5 year and 1 year is quite good
On cari chinese forum the FSM rep say all members are entitled to 1 packet; even the platinum members. And for those people who registered for 14/1 event, there would be a pack in the goodie bag as well
*
i am intrigue with this other forum you talk about for the third time. are they different than us? how come they get to have interactions with FSM and we dontP

I think that forum been mentioned many times not just by me
Differences that I could tell:
- Chinese medium
- the FSM rep is the TS for an official FSM thread in that forum; not super duper active but would show up to answer queries every now and then
- FSM folks confirmed over past events that they do monitor lowyat FSM thread but do not officially participate (based on feedback from others, I've never attended their events)

If I have to speculate, I think the chinese forum used to be mainly dominated by Pub Mut agents and therefore they see a need to have a voice? Not sure. There's also kenanga agent and CIMB agent there talking about funds from their fund house. Generally the investing style over there is more pub mut style - long term so 100% single or few equity funds only. Bond funds are not popular over there except the crazy volatility ones like ATR and EM bonds

thank you lady. maybe I missed the conversations but thank you again for taking time to reply to me. appreciate it.

May be you can raise to them to have interaction with lowyat as well? tongue.gif

we are always talking about losing money in unit trust, has anyone here in the history of investing in unit trust seen a fund default (if default is the right word) as in they had to remove the fund from existence because of no investors?

sometime fund manager will decide to "close shop" certain fund if assets under management is not large enough to run economically.
you can follow up the recent announcement on EI indonesia fund, to know the fate of the investor money.

p.s you can get all the fund size info via the FSM fund selection page, to know the big and tiny size fund there.

Thnx for clarify. Another question after read the fund fact sheet it mention "as the fund is to achieve medium to long term capital appreciation the fund is not expected to make distribution."

What does this mean? As what I understand from mutual fund is at end of the yr, they will distribute dividend and reinvest back then I will gain in total units. Does this mean I buy 100 units and at end of 10 yr I still remain 100 units? Like that not worth la

shit have you read through page one? it's all in there! come on now much as we want to help new investors but there's a fine line between spoon feeding and knowledge sharing.

QUOTE(contestchris @ Jan 11 2017, 07:48 PM)
I am considering going all in on US funds soon but retaining 20% local. The Asia/APAC/GC funds have all kind of over performed so far these past 2-3 weeks, and they will likely run out of steam when Trump gets inaugurated. Meanwhile the US funds have been mixed, so far with no substantial returns.

I need to do some more research but I am very worried about the strength of the Asian performance. I am nearly 6% on GC and 4.5% on Asia/APAC funds. Surely it has to hit a slump soon...

Stay tuned as I do more research on this matter.

What do you guys think? Will Jan 20 signal a reversal of fortunes in the short term (3-6 months) for US funds, at the expense of EM/APAC funds?
*
over performed? how did you managed to deduce that?

remember every event you see now is just a little ripple in the vast sea. so just make sure you cover all your bases and not keep shifting.

AIYH wouldn't that be considered as eating into the profits too? just wondering how you guys calculate the platform fee and management fee into your irr.

Guys, WTF is happening? I thought Asia was doomed today, but Europe is trading lower, and USA is down by almost 1%.

Why is everyone taking out their capital, and where are they keeping this capital? Usually if Asia drops, EU/US goes up. Today it is getting progressively worse.

Does it mean there is hope tomorrow morning all these withdrawn US/EU funds will be channeled into Asia?
*
QUOTE(contestchris @ Jan 12 2017, 11:28 PM)
Wow man, the NASDAQ and DAX are down by 1%. Surely this is an over-reaction to Trump and not an actual start of a recession right?
*
if you have followed the campaign trail from day 1 you will know the promises trump have made have not come true until now and he had already backed tracked a few of those like Obama care, sending Hillary to prison, building the wall cough fence cough and getting Mexico to pay for it.

also go watch the first press conference on YouTube. it's 1 hour long but he doesn't touch any policies that he was pushing for.

hence I do not want to bet all into US. it will come crashing down and those investors will come back.

Oh ok. That's really interesting.

How easy is it to make a SG account at FSM? They let a Malaysian make an account there? Will MAS bar you from entering Singapore if you do this? They seem very strict one wor, can't play play.
*
I suggest at your current status as a fresh graduate to think it through if you are interested.

opening fsm SG account is easy but getting a SG bank account is a different ball game altogether. ramjade has been diligent enough by researching and asking in the SG counters thread. if you do get one congratulations but j can feel you are chasing things too fast bro.

would suggest everyone to wait till end of January to beginning of February to see how to market moves with the new POTUS

two scenarios.

1) he makes good on his promises, more capital flow into USA. Dow and us stock exchange surges. Japan follows suit. Malaysia vomits blood. china gets hit with a trade war. inflation increases rapidly in the US. more fed hike.

buy more into us funds. buy more into cheap Asian funds.

2) he breaks his promises. loss of jobs increases. capital flows back to Asian markets.

buy more into Asian markets. reap what you have gain from us funds since election day. (profit skimming)

see what I did there?

Ya I saw lol. No matter what the outcome the action is still continue to buy. And no fear cos the fund is diversified. Not depending on specific market.

look at guy123 portfolio that is more than 3 years old. he literally ignored all the white noise and just invests in the race winning horses.

currently I am avoiding malaysia for unit trusts and soaking my feet in its market via dividend paying stocks

I did not look at his port in detail but I sort of captured the existence of some funds such as precious metal, gold or something, which are much higher risk funds which we normally don't discuss here.

I wonder if these have significant role in bringing his port to it's level ( or it has worsened it ) ?
*
you may be speaking truth but some of the funds that brought down the irr were commodity funds. the rest like kapchai, KGF, Ponzi 2.0, GTF were all giving him double digit returns.

Total profit of 60k out of 240k plus cost. that's outstanding.

Which 1 is dividend paying stock? Maybank? Nestle? I'm thinking to invest in that too. How much return can get?
*
believe it or not you can adopt a diversified portfolio approach to local Malaysian stocks and invest into stocks that have pretty good yields and also providing capital appreciation over time.

example.

banking maybank cimb Hong leong
transportation. airasia mas monorail
food industry. Nestle Carlsberg
power and water. tenaga nationl
REITs sunway REITs ecovest sp setia.

after Malaysian funds like KGF and kapchai invest in these funds. think of it as another portfolio within another portfolio but you need to do a lot of research and reading.
