Hello People,
This thread has helped me a lot as it has the most updated info for FD in Malaysia, THANKS!
Therefore I will contribute here as well.
I have just placed with Bank Rakyat @ 4.28% (11months)
Valid till 15 October 2019
This is what the person at the counter told me:
-This rate is valid till 15 October 2019 (They don't have any limit of amount reach so it will be valid till that date).
-Min is RM10k deposit, I did not ask what the max is.
-This is pure FD, no funny T&Cs.
You have to open an account with them: (REMEMBER to bring):
1. Telco bill with your Name and Mobile number on it
2. Another of your Utility bill or bank statement (They want to see your address)
>>Prepare to spend about an hour there for account opening
NOTE:
1. You can prepare a cheque from another bank before you go, but remember if you use cheque, you will need to go back to collect the FD cert in 2 - 3 days. (After cheque cleared)
2. You can open account and transfer money, but you will also need to go to branch to do this FD promo.
(So unless you are an existing Bank Rakyat customer, there is no way not to go back there at least twice)
I have to say it is easier than I thought, as long as you bring the necessary documents. I tried calling them before I went to the branch, unfortunately no one seems to answer.
Anyway the last time I wanted to place FD with Bank Islam, but like other people mentioned, they questioned me like a Criminal LOL. The guy working there kept asking me where is my money from, and I kept repeating that it's from my savings, then he again repeated again, where is it from? OMG... I finally figured out what he wanted, so I told him savings from working la. Anyway, at the end I did not bother to place with Bank Islam because I found the experience very off putting.
Good luck, seems currently, Bank Rakyat at 4.28% @ 11months might be few of the best deals out there.
I'm issued other bank's cheque for Bank Rakyat FD and I can get the FD cert on the same day. I had done this few times and it's depend on the bank officer. This thread has helped me a lot as it has the most updated info for FD in Malaysia, THANKS!
