Nowadays I only place online FDs.. i would take a lower rate for convenience.
*
I always do OTC as rate are mostly higher than online. why do low when you can do high rate easily.
OTC takes less than 30 mins (yea my place here has most banks with not much people)
unless maturity date fall on the period where i am on a biz trip then i'll do online.

i told the manager my CIMB bonds will likely be called back on 5.10.18
old 4.7% FDs many maturing soon, what can he offer...

see the agressive current promo 4.5% and 4.3%, you know they need money.
cukup makan aja..
*
do they offer such rates if I only want 12 mths max 15 mths period ?
or because you lock long period with them then only able to enjoy that rates ?

According to the news today, Hong Leong Bank will only offer short term FD only. 12 months and longer tenures FD will not be offered from now on. I think it has too much cash flow.
*
any reason given ? are they trying to say they have too much cash ?

Under the old system, FD is taxed at source (called withholding tax) at 10%.

So, if you put in RM1million, and supposed to get say RM50000 as interest, you get RM45k only. RM5k deducted automatically.

It was exempt if the FD is less than RM100k per piece, so in those days, depositors put many pieces of FD not exceeding RM100k each.

As for RPGT, CGT and Inheritance tax, good luck to ya all...It is good if you could read up how inheritance tax came about tho.....
*
so we are under new system now right ?
how does the new system works for under and above 100k ? or whatever the limit is now.

There is no new or old system.

I urged every forumers to post responsibility, it is needless to speculate whether there is witholding tax being introduced or not, which only make some unnoticed forumers confuse only.

Until (if) gov does announce something on it or having reliable sources of it, only then we discuss on the matter.

Currently, there is no witholding tax for whatever amount of FD.
End of story.

thanks for clearing it up ... was a little taken aback when i saw his/her post.

i sincerely hope they don't implement it at all.

Thanks a bunch guys, I know not possible just ask to double confirm because
if I remembered correctly there is 1 bank someone here mentioned you can use online
facilities with only a no fee basic account without any card what-so-ever, was it Ambank i think ?

1 question here when banks mentioned "fresh funds" if we IBG into from bank B into bank A (SA) then from there into bank A FD on same day or next
is it considered "fresh funds" ? or do we need to cash OTC ?
lazy take cash due to danger and 25k declare limit now.

In regards to this, I decided to make my own Android app as I personally split into multiple short term FD.
Do let me know if this is inappropriate to be shared here and I will remove immediately.

Nice app with simple straight to the point GUI however there is on flaw happen to found.
under the calculator tab everytime you want to input an amount logically you clear all and then input your amount but the instant you clear the standard amount
the whole app crash instantly. kinda annoying.
but when you clear all numbers except 1, input your amount then clear that 1, all works fine.
I think your coding side have to account for not zero (0) but blank amount too.
that aside nice app.

btw whats the latest good FD promotion rates ?

so far 4.4% @ 12mth affin
cimb 4.5% @ 6 mths (got condition)

Your colleague is right.
I just called Am bank, 4.4% for 6 months is available for senior citizens only.

So, the best rate for 6 months is CIMB OTC at 4.45%
Anybody knows which bank offers the best rate for 3 months?
*
RHB has one --> 4.38% @ 3mths click here

not sure is the best or not. funny thing is i can't see it online during FD placement page

well you beat me to it, so far I have not seen any pure vanilla FD in Malaysia that has compounding interest. (would be great to invest into one)
you know the saying if it is too good to be true .......

BI open small FD no need to go through "interview" right ?
plan to put 1 small one to "warm up" before putting big one with them.

also the 25k cash rule is 25k and below no need to declare correct ?
or is it 25k and above ?

just did one FD at BI, long story short

- super slow service (when at non peak hour)
- short period & small amount also got hit by the infamous "interview"

also was told uplifting has to be done at the same branch, inconvenience there.
