QUOTE(oldkiasu @ Mar 10 2023, 10:30 AM) Normally the simple interest formula for FD Interest = Principal x Rate/100 x Number of Days/365 for banks using the 365 divisor method. Very nice write-up. Mind to share where did you obtain this piece of info? Can't find it in major banks' website. However, for customers of banks using the Leap Year method (Maybank, Ambank and who else?), the simple interest formula used is FD Interest = Principal x Rate/100 x Number of Interest Bearing Days in Non-Leap Year/365 + Principal x Rate/100 x Number of Interest Bearing Days in Leap Year/366 which can be simplified to FD Interest = Interest Payable per IBD x IBD in Non-Leap Year + Interest Payable per IBD x IBD in Leap Year If OTC place at Ambank on Monday 3 April 2023 for 1 year, there will be 273 IBD for year 2023, and 93 IBD for year 2024. If OTC place on Tuesday 4 April 2023, there will be 272 IBD for year 2023, and 94 IBD for year 2024. The total FD Interest to be paid decreases after each day in 2023 as the IBD for year 2023 decreases and the IBD of 2024 increases. Usually occassional FD placers are not bothered or rather it can be said that they are hapless to do anything. For bank staff or staff handling fixed deposit funds, this is an issue as they have to explain the decreasing interests to clients or auditors. For clients that make a few placements at the same rate, they are disappointed. That is if they are observant enough to check what they get for each placement. For businesses or those who set aside a certain set sum on a regular basis weekly or monthly, this changes/upsets their cashflow expectations - whether they use it to pay for things in a year or for buying medicine or installments. Of course rich people without any cashflow plans/needs do not understand such things as it is beyond their experience to be poorer. |

QUOTE(CommodoreAmiga @ Mar 10 2023, 02:58 PM) QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 10 2023, 04:25 PM) Aiya, if dont like to read just put under Ignore List. Some people find that info useful on how to calculate, some not. No need to start another flaming war and have to summon Mod again. Actually such leap/non-leap year convention is known as the ACT/ACT convention in finance. The one assuming 365 days in a year regardless of leap/non-leap is the ACT/365 convention. (There are others like ACT/360, ACT/365, 30/360, 30E/360 etc.), It may not be a big deal at all for small retail investors/depositors but can matter a lot in the interbank market or for those with HNWI status, as contentchris computed, 80 to 100 MYR per million per year. What surprises me is that different banks use different conventions. I used to think they are all equal. *ACT = actual, 30/360 means 30 days in a month, 360 days in a year This post has been edited by TOS: Mar 10 2023, 04:53 PM Human Nature liked this post

QUOTE(CommodoreAmiga @ Aug 5 2024, 03:06 PM) You may withdraw the 20 MYR deposit afterwards. No need to keep any balance at BeU savings account. Not sure about the interests and crediting frequency though. If it's daily interests... |

QUOTE(ericlaiys @ Aug 5 2024, 03:42 PM) I see. Do you happen to know the rates for the Qard saving account? I check this page and the terms and conditions PDF, no mention of how many % p.a. earned for the Qard saving account: https://getbeu.com/product/Be-U-QSA |

I placed Be U Term Deposit-i FD today. I notice that after I added the withdrawal account details (my own Be U Qard saving account), I can't change it anymore... Imagine if the withdrawal account number is typed wrongly... This post has been edited by TOS: Aug 7 2024, 08:57 AM sam93xxxxx and CommodoreAmiga liked this post

QUOTE(ericlaiys @ Aug 7 2024, 11:01 AM) After you set up the Term Deposit, there is an "Add Withdrawal Account" button at the bottom of the screen once you click into the individual term deposit. You can then choose the withdrawal account from a list of banks in Malaysia and be prompted to enter your bank account details. The button will then disappear once the withdrawal account is set up and it seems that it is applied uniformly to all term deposit accounts - you cannot choose different withdrawal accounts for each term deposit. Of course if you read the T&C they say they will credit the principal + interests back to your Be U Qard saving account if you opened one earlier. But just to be safe, I manually specify my Be U Qard saving account as my withdrawal account and only then I realize this can't be changed... Probably have to call customer service to do so. QUOTE(cu94 @ Aug 7 2024, 10:41 AM) Hi, how do u guys doing the e-KYC process in Be U app? There is no any button for me to snap picture while i go through the front IC process. I already grant camera permission to the apps. Notice the 4 sides of the frame will be highlighted in white when you adjust the camera positions, you need to choose a brightly lit location to place your IC and keep adjusting the camera position until ALL 4 frames are highlighted in white. Then the photo will be taken automatically. |

QUOTE(ericlaiys @ Aug 7 2024, 11:32 AM) Hmm same case as yours, I opened BEU Qard SA first, transfer in the money then only proceed to place TD-i.Just to clear up confusion, I am referring to maturity instructions, not source of fund for the term deposit. For maturity instructions, the only option I see is the "Add withdrawal account" button in the term deposit page. (And I didn't know it uniformly applies to all other term deposits at BEU as well back then.) I am not sure what will happen if you don't add any withdrawal account. One would guess according to the T&C that the money will be credited back to Qard SA, but the kiasi side of me wanna make sure everything is certain right from the start haha |

QUOTE(dudester @ Aug 7 2024, 02:29 PM) I find this to be true. Yup. Finally someone confirmed my experience. Glad that we are on the same page. Successfully deposited my Term Deposit. When adding withdrawal account, i entered my BI account. It first ask you to choose bank, then enter account manually. After that you return to your deposit details, no option to view the account and of coz you cant find where to edit. So be careful. I also checked back my FD and now confirmed that the certificates are available for viewing. Now I don't know whether I have entered my withdrawal account number correctly or not... I try uplifting one TD-i and place a new TD-i again but they never prompt me for a new withdrawal account. Cham liao... Dangerous bank...
