I am a long time P1 Supporter even after a lot of brainwashing from P2 salesmen and Toyoi salesmen. Now. I am very frustrated. Even P2 jumps a step forward with the non - rebadge Bezza. Now. P1 who has already stop selling rebadge cars and already selling own cars has gone backwards and has gone back selling rebadge cars such as The Ertiga and The Perdana. So sad. I am disappoint. Can someone tell me why? I will never understand.

Competition and to remain competitive.Btw, the Newest Perdana is not an entirely rebadged car; only handling , electronics and engine are taken from Honda. Exterior body is designed by Proton themselves. Also it has to fight old Malaysian mindset - Proton Cars Sucks. You give a rebadge car, the rakyat complain. You give a completely in house designed car like Preve, still people complain. What i noticed is that Proton likes to use European tech, of which some will appreciate some will despise. From what i see..Malaysians prefer Japs, no matter how lousy the design is. i actually liked the Perdana because of its massive size, even longer than Camry and Accord. but still people rather buy a Toyota or Honda. because of "Air Muka" mindset. |

Going backwards by going back to rebadges is a big leap backwards. I prefer in house everything although Jap Engineering and Conti Engineering are better. Then only you can succeed.Btw, the Newest Perdana is not an entirely rebadged car; only handling , electronics and engine are taken from Honda. Exterior body is designed by Proton themselves. actually proton car is good in terms of what is being offered, i mean what you get vs what you paid for.
However the weakness for proton car is the part reliability and the fuel efficiency of the engine. Part reliability, proton car seems to be having comparatively higher failure rate compared to P2, or earlier failure, nonetheless the suspension and engine mounting of proton cars are superb compare to P2. Others are debatable. Fuel efficiency, proton has no big backstage support in terms of engine development so they surely losing out a bit. When myvi deploys vvt, proton still proud with their iafm, when P2 raising up the bar with dual vvt (let alone that the engine is a decade engine from toyota though, but people still take it as a toyota engine), saga comes with vvt, in terms of engine efficiency, proton is like one step or half step behind, most of the time. Let's see how the new GDI engine performs. Is a brave move by proton actually. And risky as well. |

I prefer in house everything although Jap Engineering and Conti Engineering are better. Then only you can succeed. The problem is the cost to build a car from scratch is very high, the sale number of proton now can cover the cost. And Proton had no cash now, so need government to pump money. Malaysia is small market, Proton either partner with big company or can expand market to other country only they can survive. But I support ur point that design a car in house, but reality is now Proton had no cash. |
