i encountered something weird today.

tried to use spay for transaction more than rm250, using mbb visa barcelona. transaction failed, and i got an sms from mbb saying "you hv exceeded you cumulative contactless transaction amount(CTA) limit. please call CS to increase the CTA limit". i called CS, they have no idea what i'm talking about. they keep saying spay limit is rm250. and they have no idea how to increase the CTA.

i told them, i have used spay with mbb2kard visa for a transaction amount of RM499 and it went through. i just need to tap + enter PIN at the terminal. this should be the same as visa paywave procedure for transaction above RM250.

wonder what is different with the barcelona card though.

[update : CS replied, CTA limit can't be increased. thus i am wondering how come my 2kard visa able to perform contactless transaction above RM250, albeit with PIN, but the visa barcelona card can't]

not yet. i would think this limit comes from the bank instead.

for maybank cards, the max devices you can add is 2, iinm.

i know for a fact some terminals have already disabled their magnetic swipe input. probably due to the fact that you will have to sign the slip after 'swipe', which goes against the pin and pay directive from bnm.

then again, some foreigners still have magnetic cards, wonder if they are able to pay with their cards.

tried paying by spay today at uniqlo sunway pyramid, the terminal rebooted after i tap, cause the POS system to hang. cashier tried at the next terminal....same thing happened. in the end have to use physical card.

switched to amex physical card, slot in.

for some reason, cimb terminals always have weird problems. in jaya grocer, sometimes amex transaction will not go through the first time. usually the 2nd time it will go through. even the cashiers know this is a common problem.

and then now the weird rebooting.

i assume you pay at the counter. if you have paid in full i doubt they will refund to your card, it's not a preauthorised credit. but then again, only RM50 is required to get the RM10 card, why do you put RM100?

for me, i checked with the counter to make sure they know about the promo before i proceed. the staff i spoke to doesn't know but the supervisor is aware. she(supervisor) straight away key in RM50 to the terminal and asked me to tap with spay. then she asked me to pump first and return to counter. when i return, she asked me to redeem my voucher in the app and she made sure the voucher is gone from my phone before she issue me with a gift card.

your tier will carry over to the next month, and you need to use spay for 20 times every month to maintain it.

i too have made purchase more than 250, using mbb 2kard visa. terminal will prompt for PIN.

however, new mbb card like the fcb visa signature will fail if transaction is more than 250. no idea why the difference.

Just look for the wave logo, it's either above the card slot or extended at the side

while i understand where you are coming from from a safety perspective, i stand corrected if you are able to present me with research or factual evidence of your "extremely dangerous" claims.

not trying to pick a fight but i have presented my argument in previous posts and i have not seen yours.
