Using Vista X64 biggrin.gif..Xtreme Music + P5800 :3 (Xtreme modded, ironic huh tongue.gif)well, technically it's like what you mention, some games has built in sound system i guess or something similar. the game sorta had bug when the quality is set too high at control panel.
*
XtremeMusic XtremeModded, nice tongue.gif When you mean quality, do you mean the default format and sample rate? I just use 16-bit 44.1kHz for that, or you could use 24-bit 44.1kHz/48kHz. There is very few apps requires more bitrate than that. Do you change to Game Mode when you game?

yeah i do tongue.gif...well by default i set mine to 24 bit/ 96000 biggrin.gif...makes the game volume sounds like chipmunks xD...
*
Yeah exactly, that will happen if you don't match up the frequency between soundcard and games laugh.gif Similar to Realtek AC97 when playing old Battlefiend 1942 biggrin.gif

Since you seem to have lotsa opamps, mind if I ask if you know where to purchase a LM4562 locally? NI offers free samples, but not sure whether they'll send all the way to Malaysia or not laugh.gif
*
Nah, I don't have much opamp, yes National do send free sample to Malaysia, but you need to pay the shipping fee, unless you have .edu email address

Here's a link. If you got any question regarding it, post it here. I have experienced modding SB046X (XtremeMusic, Fatal1ty) and SB0550 (Elite Pro). Here's a pic for SB046X

if not mistaken, i think xtreme gamer or was it xtreme audio cannot mod  since it does not use the x-fi chip or something..
*
XtremeAudio is the one, it don't use X-Fi CA20K DSP, but Audigy SE. The XtremeGamer can be modded, but its nearly impossible to change the opamp on the low profile one because it uses SSIC instead of SOIC, but capacitor can be changed

I think I do have a ".edu" address provided by my uni, but gotta ask my friends how to access it first, never log in before tongue.gif Any opamps you would recommend? Hehe... What about the big fat power filter cap? Looks kinda expensive though.
*
You could try LM4562, LME49720 or LME49723. All of them are nearli identical, on paper at least, the 49723 have slightly worse spec. What I liked the most is LME49720, 2nd is 49723 and lastly 4562 (this is vary)

But for SB046X (XtremeMusic, Fatal1ty, XtremeGamer Fatal1ty) only supplies 5V to the opamp, its not enough to unleash its full power. Recomended voltage is 15V from one guy statement, I tested 5V and 12V and the latter indeed have better and smoother sound (you can ignore if you dont understand this, it'll work anyway tongue.gif )

About power caps, you can use any general purpose caps, like Rubycon YXA. Just don't use ultra low ESR caps like Sanyo OS-CON, the regulator will make a buzzing noise because of it

This is my final back layout of analog out, its hard to route negative supply, positive supply and ground on small area like that sweat.gif I have some problems before get the final layout (note, green = ground, white = positive, bue = negative) I need to shield them though, there is some noise at full volume, but music is very quiet enough

tqvm.

No, building one is not that hard but I forgot the pinout of the front panel on the card

How about the very famous high detailed AD8066 opamp? brows.gif  brows.gif

I haven't tested AD8066 yet, there is others who have tested AD8066. But there is not much users replying to this thread anymore, either they can't find audiophile subforum or they no longer use X-Fi/Audigy modded with this opamp sweat.gif

Thanks for the input! It's a good thing I studied Analog Devices in my previous semester thumbup.gif I guess it's possible to draw an external 12V supply from the PSU, but the wiring will be kinda sweat.gif The insides of my PC is messy enough already, and I don't really wanna ruin the looks of my Titanium for the time being. Besides, 5V should more than suffice as I doubt the amplified signal will exceed this limit.

As for your mod, why not use a veroboard instead? Less jumpers flying here and there, more tidy ma tongue.gif

Actually, there are quite a few opamps I wanna try, but soldering them on and off every time will be quite a hassle. I'm trying to get a "DIP to SOIC adapter" off eBay, but everything there is a "SOIC to DIP adapter" doh.gif This is what I want:
http://www.epboard.com/eproducts/protoadap...%20IC%20Adapter
*
Its up to you, I just giving suggestion smile.gif Well, that IS veroboard, I know what you mean actually, the board that have all the row already soldered (connected). But I'm not used to that and I wanted to have my own layout. I'll tidy it soon, just too lazy tongue.gif

Yes I agree buying adapter is better in long run especially if you love rolling opamp. If you use the adapter you can just tap from the PSU directly to the opamp if you want 12V supply. Use small capacitor like 0.01uF to bypass it to ground for some noise reduction

does xfi xtreme gamer fatality handle well for music and movie as xtreme music ?which shuld i go for?

Both have the same component, the only thing thta Fatal1ty have is 64MB X-RAM which not much games uses it. Both are good, depends on you whether you need the extra 64MB X-RAM Fatal1ty have

*
Why buy older cards when there is X-Fi? It has been discussed before why you want to avoid Audigy series. Dolby and THX don't do nothing in music, unless the software itself can benefits from it, which is usually movies and games.

Where did you 'heard' it? What 'old chip' it uses? Both have the same DSP, same component apart from the X-RAM I mentioned

X-Fi Titanium HD looks good, probably a replacement for X-Fi Elite Pro. On those specs alone it looks like it using a better DAC than Elite Pro, probably Burr Brown ones. RCA in and out is a huge plus to me biggrin.gif I just hope the price isn't ridiculous. I don't need breakout box, just the card would suffice

Refer to my previous post. It uses the same DSP as Titanium but with different DAC and swapable opamp. Its just announced and I haven't found any specs yet apart from those posted

Finally they try to catch up with those audiophile level sound card, i think the bad comments on net got some sort of effect on their decision, not bad, i have to say. Hope they will dumb those crappy caps used in previous card.
*
Judging by those teaser pics, it looks like they use full solid caps now. At least they won't leak like crappy Jamicon they used to use, hopefully if they use the proper solid caps. To be honest I'm quite excited with this Titanium HD tongue.gif

I'll try to help one by one.

1) Maybe you don't select 5.1 on your receiver? Select Entertainment mode too if you haven't done so.

2) Elite Pro have a great CS4398 DAC which may be better than your receiver. But best thing to do is judge which one is better by your ear.

I have Elite Pro before but I only use it purely for stereo use and for music and games, not for movies.

Thanks for the feedback, Najmods and Coolkwc. Perhaps Coolkwc is right - the X-Fi card only support 2 channel PCM. I have changed it for a Asus Xonar DX and now I am able to get 5.1 channel sound on my amp connected to the sound card with optical cable.

The sound of Xonar DX is comparable to X-Fi Elite Pro - equally good!
*
Well, I don't use more than stereo both digital and analog so I don't know.

If you mean analog on both card, of course it is, both uses the same CS4398 DAC smile.gif

guys, which one shd i choose?
X-Fi Titanium?
X-Fi Xtreme Music?
X-Fi Game Xtreme Fatal1ty?

I am only use for Music + Movies....
Budget RM 200 ++
Win 7 supported.
*
Windows 7 support all of them, if your budget is low you just get the XtremeMusic, buying anything higher don't gain much, unless you play games that uses those X-RAM the Fatal1ty card have, which are very rare. If you really need PCIe card, go for Titanium, else go for XtremeMusic
