Nope, this is an old story, if its on old nforce4 chipset it might have problem, but even so the firmware on the card has been updated and some mobo have BIOS update to patch the problem. I haven't have a single issue with them

1. Just put some semi transparent tape on it, and instantly it become dim

3. Its a sort of 'dynamic' equalizer, increasing high and low on music, for me its just pierced my ear with treble and bloated bass. Try it once, never used them ever again

1. You can get either from Akabane on bulk section, just search Audiotrak there or Midi Specialist on Lowyat Plaza. Of course they do compatible

2. Xonar have excellent DAC, even the lowly DX have the same DAC as X-Fi Elite Pro and none of it crappy capacitor

I don't expect that Xonar Essence to be cheap, by the look of it it going to be expensive, expect Auzentech Prelude pricing...

Oh still modding is it my latest mod on the card is replaced the capacitor on digital part with OS-CON, all of it I heard good reviews on AD8620, but even betetr on AD8599, as people say, more 'organic' because the spec is purely for music (its just enough, not too fast, not too slow)

Good luck, be warned though, the 12V is not regulated so it might be a little noisy, not as clean as regulated 5V. Maybe you can use OS-CON caps on supply line to reduce it

Some opamp have benefits of higher voltage, as it sounds smoother and more detail, like LME49720. On my DAC, it sound significantly better and smoother at 13.64V as compared to 5V on PC (although there is more things than voltage that is different though). Tap it carefully, I managed to destroy my entire analog line because of wrong tapping, not just opamp that is burnt, everything else dead too

Yes modding is my passion. There is no job in this world that don't have any danger. Yes it will avoid the warranty totally especially hard modding like changing capacitor and opamp. Its fun, I like to live on the edge, its better for me to regret modding than regret not to. This card have a lot of potential, but Creative let it down

That's right. SB046A and SB0460 have the same layout, so any of those picture will work. The 4556 is front channel while the other is for surround channel

Just wanna update to X-Fi user, that foobar2000 v0.9.6 has been released, plus the ASIO plugin v1.2.6, the new ASIO plugin now allows you to change ASIO buffer latency

Music sounds best on two channel, period, cloning to back speaker makes me headache, making a mess out of it.

Just use ASIO plugin, everything would be good enough. If you like using DSP there is no point of using ASIO in the first place as the purpose of using it is to get bitperfect out

Use ASIO if you want bit perfect audio. Try to compare with normal DirectSound (DS), if it doesn't make any difference to your ear, use whichever you like. Make sure when you select ASIO, you use Audio Creation mode and enable bitperfect output on Creative Audio Console

You have tried the new driver? The previous beta works well for me I don't want to change it

RMAA doesn't shows how it sounds like, I have tested ALC888 vs X-Fi, the Realtek is not even at the same league as the X-Fi. DAC, capacitor quality, opamp and DSP is what matters in sound quality in music. About movies, well, maybe coolkwc can answer that as I don't bother with movies, I just game and listening to music

That's right, furthermore, X-Fi Titanium is just X-Fi on PCIe bus. One thing is, why choose X-Fi if you don't game? For pure music, there is a lot of better cards out there aimed for simply that, like Audiotrak cards

EAX in Game mode is different from in Entertainment mode. In Game mode, it depends on game support and it can be enable in game and it support up to EAX 5, while in Entertainment mode its used for preset on room acoustics for music and movies, not games, if you use Entertainment mode to play games it only up to EAX 3 IIRC

I think you need to change to 5.1 setup in Windows, on each mode

Alright2 I been playing it for few minutes and this is what I get:

Stock impression:

Bass is very powerful, but a bit loose and lacking a bit of punch, its seems 'out of tune' with music. Vocal comes out very smooth, pleasantly nice, but background detail smear and muddy, some detail can't even been heard or its very distant. High detail is lost, sounds like it don't have much treble at all and feel distant.

All in all, it excel in vocal, not really bright and pleasant to the ear, but it feels slighty empty with not much detail. I think I know why it called analytical this CS4398, because it presentation is a bit dry and lacks character I heard from older DAC
