QUOTE(Lemmings @ Nov 14 2008, 03:49 AM) oh I see. What's the usage of the x-ram for then? 2mb vs 64mb. I can't find a clear explanation through google though. Its just for games, and only a few utilize it, like Battlefield2.

Nope, this is an old story, if its on old nforce4 chipset it might have problem, but even so the firmware on the card has been updated and some mobo have BIOS update to patch the problem. I haven't have a single issue with them

QUOTE(maxizanc @ Nov 18 2008, 01:09 AM) 1. Yep, prefer light orange or yellow color LED. Blue color is too bright. 2. Yep, waste of money. I forgot about my S530D has remote control when i wrote that in my office, lol.' 3. Yep, the sound is totally ugly. The Crystalizer is a total bulshit. I'm not even use the equalizer. 1. Just put some semi transparent tape on it, and instantly it become dim 3. Its a sort of 'dynamic' equalizer, increasing high and low on music, for me its just pierced my ear with treble and bloated bass. Try it once, never used them ever again QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Nov 18 2008, 01:14 AM) Btw, Audiotrak and Asus Xonar SC is better than Creative X-Fi in term of music right? QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Nov 18 2008, 01:19 AM) 1. where can i get Audiotrak soundcard? is it compatible with PC speaker? 2. what do you think of Asus Xonar? is it better than X-Fi XtremeMusic? I never care for the EAX, Crystalizer, SuperEQ and rhe CMSS... 1. You can get either from Akabane on bulk section, just search Audiotrak there or Midi Specialist on Lowyat Plaza. Of course they do compatible 2. Xonar have excellent DAC, even the lowly DX have the same DAC as X-Fi Elite Pro and none of it crappy capacitor

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 18 2008, 01:41 AM) 2. Asus will release the Xonar Essence STX soon....if you got money, you can wait for that...swappable opamp (default using cheap LM4562. i don't expect this opamp on high end card), nichicon fine gold caps, Burr-Brown PCM1792A DAC.... anyway, today i order an opamp for my XtremeMusic, AD8620....soon i will turn this thread to become mod thread again.... I don't expect that Xonar Essence to be cheap, by the look of it it going to be expensive, expect Auzentech Prelude pricing... Oh still modding is it my latest mod on the card is replaced the capacitor on digital part with OS-CON, all of it I heard good reviews on AD8620, but even betetr on AD8599, as people say, more 'organic' because the spec is purely for music (its just enough, not too fast, not too slow)

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 18 2008, 01:57 AM) i will try using default voltage first, otherwise will tap +-12v on it... Good luck, be warned though, the 12V is not regulated so it might be a little noisy, not as clean as regulated 5V. Maybe you can use OS-CON caps on supply line to reduce it

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 18 2008, 02:07 AM) ya, i heard about that...but 5V will be my first choice, as i tap with +-12V, i need to have long wire that will potentially pick up some noise as well... BTW, OS-CON will kill my wallet, i found a better alternative, Rubycon ZA series cap... Some opamp have benefits of higher voltage, as it sounds smoother and more detail, like LME49720. On my DAC, it sound significantly better and smoother at 13.64V as compared to 5V on PC (although there is more things than voltage that is different though). Tap it carefully, I managed to destroy my entire analog line because of wrong tapping, not just opamp that is burnt, everything else dead too Talking about caps, Panasonic FM is good too

QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Nov 18 2008, 03:49 AM) You all even modified your SC? Is it dangerous and void the warranty? Yes modding is my passion. There is no job in this world that don't have any danger. Yes it will avoid the warranty totally especially hard modding like changing capacitor and opamp. Its fun, I like to live on the edge, its better for me to regret modding than regret not to. This card have a lot of potential, but Creative let it down

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 20 2008, 06:49 PM) i think google can help you a lot.... don't be lazy ok? Find the chip near the output bracket, got 3 X 4558 and 1 X 4556... That's right. SB046A and SB0460 have the same layout, so any of those picture will work. The 4556 is front channel while the other is for surround channel

QUOTE(arafat @ Dec 14 2008, 03:19 AM) select for 24bit for ouput format in dsp manager enable sound sharpening & convert stereo to 4 channels(if ur using 5.1) Music sounds best on two channel, period, cloning to back speaker makes me headache, making a mess out of it. @kennytee Just use ASIO plugin, everything would be good enough. If you like using DSP there is no point of using ASIO in the first place as the purpose of using it is to get bitperfect out

Use ASIO if you want bit perfect audio. Try to compare with normal DirectSound (DS), if it doesn't make any difference to your ear, use whichever you like. Make sure when you select ASIO, you use Audio Creation mode and enable bitperfect output on Creative Audio Console

RMAA doesn't shows how it sounds like, I have tested ALC888 vs X-Fi, the Realtek is not even at the same league as the X-Fi. DAC, capacitor quality, opamp and DSP is what matters in sound quality in music. About movies, well, maybe coolkwc can answer that as I don't bother with movies, I just game and listening to music

QUOTE(FreshGrad @ Apr 24 2009, 12:58 AM) If your budget is not the problem, go for 1 or 2 and stay away from 3. Audigy2 ZS used old chipset and the old resampling problem will plague the SQ of the songs. Yu won't waste the sound card even you don't play game. That's right, furthermore, X-Fi Titanium is just X-Fi on PCIe bus. One thing is, why choose X-Fi if you don't game? For pure music, there is a lot of better cards out there aimed for simply that, like Audiotrak cards

QUOTE(gac @ May 24 2009, 12:31 AM) depend on individual preferences. myself would just ignore all the setting while gaming. you should try them out one-by-one and judge for yourself. btw, huh? the EAX mode only available at the ENTERTAINMENT MODE not in the GAME MODE. GAME MODE only have CMSS-3D, Crystalizer & EQ EAX in Game mode is different from in Entertainment mode. In Game mode, it depends on game support and it can be enable in game and it support up to EAX 5, while in Entertainment mode its used for preset on room acoustics for music and movies, not games, if you use Entertainment mode to play games it only up to EAX 3 IIRC

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Aug 2 2009, 09:12 PM) fast fast la, lol... Alright2 I been playing it for few minutes and this is what I get: Stock impression: Bass is very powerful, but a bit loose and lacking a bit of punch, its seems 'out of tune' with music. Vocal comes out very smooth, pleasantly nice, but background detail smear and muddy, some detail can't even been heard or its very distant. High detail is lost, sounds like it don't have much treble at all and feel distant. All in all, it excel in vocal, not really bright and pleasant to the ear, but it feels slighty empty with not much detail. I think I know why it called analytical this CS4398, because it presentation is a bit dry and lacks character I heard from older DAC This post has been edited by Najmods: Aug 2 2009, 09:20 PM
