Well, the Sony Vaio FW's Full-HD and 1080 sticker is a classic case of Microsoft Vista's labeling of Vista Capable case. The only difference it did not went down to a class action lawsuit. Hehehe... why? Because it is misleading. Allow me to explain:

For the FW-series, there are currently 3 variants. The 2 lower-end models only have 1600x900 resolution on the LCD. These are 'high' enough in terms of resolution for a laptop. Most laptop today have 1280x800 resolutions. The FW-series employ a 16:9 aspect ratio screen so it requires 1600x900 resolution screen which is higher than 720p of normal HDTVs. They do have 1080 stickers but it only indicates that it is capable to output to a display screen of up to 1080p or 1920x1080p via the HDMI output connector.

The highest end FW is the real deal here because it has a Full-HD 1920x1080 LCD display and it also has the same capability for the video output like its 2 younger brothers.

FYI, anything over 480p/576 PAL is considered HD already. So resolutions like 1600x900 or 720p is good enough for HD playback since your display size is so small. Marketeers use Full-HD to indicate the highest resolution possible on a HDTV and that is 1080p or 1920x1080. No difference, just more pixels and it is capable of filling larger displays.

Im just wondering if FW25 can support games like lef4Dead? Cause the resolution is 1600X900, im afraid most game does not support that resolution, is this so?

overall i can say is that this machine is superb! really satisfied with it..
the LCD screen is so nice!
connect my sennheiser HD201 for music, sound Quality is superb with dolby!
tried sharpshooter 4 on my VAIO, really good graphics, but the left side keyboard get a bit hot when playing it.
overall, superb!
windows experience index base score is 4.6! so good!

i bought it from notebook shop KLCC..checked with sony style, they said no more freegift after PC fair..

COD4 and NFS undercover-high settings..
red alert 3-medium settings..

i think crysis low setting..i didnt install because i dont like the game..and the file is too big.
but NFS carbon and undercover didnt support the 1600 x 900 resolution..it'll be square..
others, full widescreen..superb.
if you want to play games, sell the free VAIO mouse and buy a razer..superb.

driver? nay..no need..for me, 2gb ram is already enough..the graphics card is GDDR3, so its good enough..checked with GPU-Z..if DDR2 then maybe need to share memory so upgrade is a must..my notebook use less than 50% of the RAM memory most of the time..so, why need upgrade? but if you want, just add another 1gb..4gb is kind of useless with vista 32bit..

bout the driver..there is windows update and VAIO update..so you dont have to worry bout anything..

you are into gaming rite? get a razer instead of the bluetooth VAIO mouse..bluetooth mouse is quite heavy for gaming, and you can get a decent razer mouse and mat for that price..

cooler pad?? i LOLed and ROFLed over it..dude, you would never believe yourself when you start playing games later..almost no heat at all. just dont put your hand beside the heatsink on the left..that air vent emits heat like hell man..but you feel nothing on the keyboard and touchpad..its like miracle! i use HP pavilion DV2000 before, keyboard and touchpad area feels quite hot after two hours. i played NFS the whole day on my VAIO, no heat at all..the heat circulation is really2 good..salute the engineers who design it man..
btw, get a cooler master notepal if you insist on cooling pad..its custom made to fit any laptops...or this small cooler which you attach to the air vent..something around RM70..cheap and good..since the heat came out from the airvent, this cooler suck out the heat more..imagine a VAIO with a cooler..

dont forget to buy a good headphones too..sennheiser HD201 will be good enough..the realtek soundcard can do wonders! you'll get cinema-like 5.1 surround sound on an earphone!

dont worry bout recovery lah..your computer got nothing inside..
i tried d..you need external HDD or DVD..they didnt save it in the computer of course..
