Glad to see a cyclist thread here biggrin.gif

I have a Cannondale Synapse bike in the UK, thinking of shipping it to KL. I cycle quite a bit in when in UK , cycle to office around 20KM per day and on weekends some trips 50-100KM

Now I'm staying by KL Sentral , Brickfields and I really want to bring my bike here even though a lot of traffic and hot weather. But cycling in the gym is too boring sad.gif

Is it a crazy / stupid idea to try and cycle around here? I really miss having my bike !!!

Oooh , nice to see a cycling thread here smile.gif Is there any place in KL to rent a good road bike? I have a bike back in the UK like this one (with SPD-SL of course biggrin.gif)

Since coming to KL I've been very lazy, hardly ever using the gym as cycling outside so much better, sitting on a bike in the gym really boring for me.

I considered to ship my bike from UK to KL, but not sure if its a good idea or not? I live in KL Sentral and can't think of anywhere reasonable around here to cycle and the traffic quite bad also, I never see anyone cycling around here! Also I don't drive, so difficult for me to get out to other places to go cycling sad.gif

Any good shop for buying a decent road bike in KL , and how are the prices here? I guess quite expensive compared to UK where it is a lot more popular than here sad.gif

Difficult decision if I should buy a bike here, or take mine from home when I go back next !

Any opinions on Giant TCR3 road bike ? Written off the idea of shipping my bike from the UK due to shipping costs (RM1000+) and worried it could get damanged in transit etc.

Went to a bike shop and TCR3 (alu frame, carbon fork) is available for around RM2500 , does this sound reasonable?

I haven't ridden for over 9 months since I came to Malaysia, only ever in UK where I'm used to having a full carbon Cannondale (Synapse, 2008 model) will I notice much difference?

Of course still need to budget for pedals/shoes etc.

Or any other brand / model to recommend around the same price range? I can spend up to RM3500 for everything ...

Giant is quite common brand in UK/Europe, guess not as well known here ....

Will take a look at Specialized concept store, seems close by to where I'm staying

Really don't want to spend too much right now as not 100% sure how long I'll be staying in Malaysia and a bit of a nightmare to take back.

Had a look at Bike PRO and their Scott range - looking at the Scott S50 now, price of RM2200 ... tempting smile.gif

Not made a decision yet though.

Yeah just did a bit of reading about SORA groupset and looks like would definetely be better to go with Tiagra. My budget isn't really fixed - don't want to spend too much, but also don't want to get something crap just because it's cheap and then end up buying another bike afterwards biggrin.gif

I would prefer to go with a brand I know of - never heard of Polygon myself and doesn't seem to be that much about them on the web from searching around.

On the Scott things, the next level up is the S40 which is lighter (around 9.2KG) and seems to use Tiagra groupset.

Bit annoying thing is that the models need to be ordered in as they don't seem to have my size (I'm around 6ft)

Went to bike shop again today, think I finally made my decision - thinking of placing an order later this week.

I'm now looking at the Scott Speedster S30 - similar to the S40/50 I was looking at previously but no SORA groupset components , 105/Tiagra

Price can get for around RM3200. Bit higher than I wanted to spend originally ... but if I end up upgrading groupset on a cheaper bike will work out more expensive.

damansara perdana is a great to stay at, you can cycle to Klang via Puncak Alam and back, you can also cycle to Ijok or Kuala Selangor via Guthrie Highway.

Thanks for tips ... will check those out once I got used to my bike.

What's it like cycling on the highway? I guess there isn't many small roads to cycle via

My old pedals in UK attached to my current bike - Ultegra SPD-SL

Actually now it looks like I'll be shipping my whole bike via courier from UK to Malaysia.

Any ideas on import duty of bicycle into Malaysia? If high, I will declare the value as low only.
