I m new to road bike but wish 2 share my 2 cent experience. Try to get ppl who already in the sport .they can help/advise you what to buy/ and how to start riding. Its safer to start riding in group so you still need to know the ppl.

I start with buying a good used alum. frame and fixed shimano ultegra component into it. It cost me abt 3K. Our group cycle the Guthrie higway in the evening after 5 pm. We start with 40km total ride for 3-4 time before going to 60KM and 80 Km (that is 2X40 KM) ride.

For the next ride target will be Ipoh century ride 2008 13-July (100 mile) 160Km ride...

Ive been on alot of hobby trails.. golf, RC (from, car, heli, plane boat..), sailing..mountain bike and now road bike..

my advise.. get a decent bike... do a lot of riding .. once u enjoy it..... get a dream bike .. as for me it will be
cervelo R3 super light...
