why would you need an aerobar?

well there are 2 reasons why people wanna install aerobar. one for aerodynamic and another one is for comfort. for me the main thing is comfort. i go cycling 3 to 4 times a week and about 2 hours++ each time and stock roadbike handles really really tires out my arm from supporting my upper body. so i wanna pasang aeorbar to rest my arms on it. in a simpler way of saying it "i'm lazy" whistling.gif but its not a necessity more like a want not a need

i used to have an aerobar installed on my bike. but then i removed it for these reasons:

- not suitable or considered a faux pas when riding in a group.
- bike handling ability is reduced.
- one of the goal of riding in a group is to help our friends draft behind us. if we are in an aero position, our friends behind won't benefit much from group riding
- i thought aero position can reduce the comfort level on a long ride? chest expansion is reduced, upper body weight is resting on your shoulders, your hip in forward position (tip of saddle).
- riding in an upright position with our hands on brakehood or on top of the handlebar should be just fine
- aerobars are heavy.
- aerobars are meant for time trial, or when training for time trial.

i dun ride in a group.i ride by myself biggrin.gif so the group issues not applicable to me. bike handling ability is not much of an issue i'm not planning to install those full set time trial kind of bars.i want to install the clip on type of aero bars meaning i still retain the road bike handle. as for comfort i think aero bar will help as our shoulder is much stronger than wrist. i actually get a lot of discomfort riding while resting on handlebar and there was once i get a lot of pain on my left arm after 30 minutes of cycling that i have to actually stop and wait for the pain to go away before i continued and there are still minor discomfort so i cut the cycling time shorter just in case.weight of the bar....not an issue to me.no comment about the time trial thingy and for the aero postion for long ride i've searched around on internet forums a few cyclist (road bike users) have mentioned that it takes some getting used to initially but after that its quite comfy but there are a few things that you must take into consideration when installing aerobar and well i'm a firm believer in that when you modify your bike its for yourself not to adhere to stuff like this thing is for this only that thing is for that only smile.gif
