its a minivelo....
with 20 inches wheel..

some ppl don't know.....
minivelo are not children's bike or bike for kids,
most have full size frame n height , just that the wheels are smaller than 700c

it is not popular in the west, but very popular in japan.
you don't see minivelo in road races becos UCI sanctioned races bans small wheel bikes.

one of the pioneer of small wheel bikes is Sir Alex Moulton frm the UK.

below r some example of minivelos..

Alex Moulton bikes have both front n rear suspensions.

i think most ppl are used to seeing road bikes with 700c wheels, tht's y... biggrin.gif

the last 3 bikes above have wheels bigger than 20" ,
so its neither big nor small,

moulton bikes have wheels 17" n 20". no bigger.
i think if it is bigger it beats the purpose/advantage.

some ppl, won't get used to riding a 20" wheel bike,
u need far less effort to pedal n accelerate, due to the smaller wheels.
n it is more agile..

top of the line Moulton Speed.

Thanks for your fast reply, H2D.

I know about the ASEAN agreement about non tax on asean goods but the bike that I am going to acquire is made in Europe.

I intend to buy the bicycle here and the last time I cycled was 35 years ago. I want to get use to the bike before travelling to Thailand. I will travel to Pangkor, Tioman before proceed to Thailand.

tern bikes should b lerun again,as they r d current dahon dist.

I'm not sure bout the price in thai, but saw few local get theirs frm thai, as there r grey imports available there I think.

u can try seeking advice frm the thai bike forum, lotsa folding bike owners there, mebe some could understand english.

I hv a feeling tht tern price will b much more exp than dahon.. not sure....

well we will know in the coming months...

from wht i see of the Tern models...
it is like 'improved' version of Dahon models, very much so since Tern is run by former Dahon Global team, which design many existing Dahon models.

i think if we wana discuss folding bike should go to the folding bike thread..

guys, if u r buying a new bike, remember to ask the bike shop to remove the tube and inspect it.

my new bike tyre lost air suddenly, when i remove the tube, it has been simply patched. after 1 month, the bike shop won't replace a tube, they said u might have patched it urself...
bad luck....

wow, did that happened to your Dash 18? from RxDxLxnk? am looking for a folding bike myself and thanks for the advice.

yes thats correct, so just a piece of advice to avoid bad luck, don't be shy to ask them to remove the tube for inspection,
one more thing tht i've found out, my other inner tube punctured shortly after a ride, when i removed it,
there are some metal shavings inside the rim, you know during manufacturing, they will machine the rim,
some how they din clean it enough, so i think the shavings punctured the tube, cos the puncture is
on the inside surface of the tube where it meets the rim/rim tape,
another thing you might wana consider is, at the bike shop, ask them to remove the tube,
make sure the inside is clean, run ur fingers along the rim tape, to make sure nothing is stuck there.

in japan, one doesn't need to spend a lot to customise cool looking bikes, fixie or normal bikes.. drool.gif
all bikes are required to have brakes, otherwise will get booked by police. icon_idea.gif

I would recommend you to visit Specialized Store in Kota D'sara for body fitting.

Exchanging ideas there will lead you understand more on bikes that you looking for.
*
do they charge for a fitting session?
can't be free right, otherwise ppl will line up there.. biggrin.gif

I am interested to get a bike at 2k budget because I still don't know what to get next. 4k is a steep price to pay for a person which knows nothing in the biking world. Sometimes is easy to say you cant go wrong with this and that but sometimes it's just really not for you.

Can anyone listed down a shop or two for good bike?
Google search brings me to

KSHbike, bikepro.
*
those 2 shops are more upmarket....
if u r looking for budget bike sub 2k or 1k,
go to the lerun website, they have a list of bike shops all over malaysia. biggrin.gif

I shud be expecting price around 2k right? if I were to aim Polygon 200 / 300.. actually those spec means nothing to me haha.. cannot translate them into meaningful data in my brain
*
around 2k can hv a few choices, the built quality n parts will be different of course, u can see it with your eyes,
just walk into a bike shop and compare.
the shifters will be different, when u ride u can feel the difference when it works. biggrin.gif
