Would like to know how to get TM to replace the damaged fiber optic wire. Suddenly lost connection and found one spot on the wire badly damaged not sure how, looks like something had a nibble. How much does TM charge for this?

Is it possible to buy the cable and fix it myself. Thanks.

probably could get a similar wire from mr.diy for around 10 bucks.
if you dont have a mr.diy around you, any hadware store should have an easy replacement wire. just bring the old one as a reference

Does Mr DIY sell fiber optic wire? This is the wire from the juction box outside my house to the junction box just before my modem. Its the black wire.

You can wait for Unifi or buy your own. Use cable case or a water hose to protect your cable.

I kena something similar before. TM sent technician over, used something to bridge the broken section and left without charging even a cent. thumbup.gif

Disclaimer ** That was quite a few years ago lah. Now still the same or not I dunno lah.

I think you are correct. From the post, it is black cable with two fiber optic strands internally. The black one from post has wire that it can be pulled. After that it goes to optic cable termination box inside house. From this box it is fiber optic "patch" cable also that goes to the BTU

black wire is fiber optic cable lo, you cant fix this and not your responsibility also. call tm fix.

what people buy in retail shops are LAN cables, blue in color usually but usually wrapped in plastic coating just

if it's outside to the TM box (outside), it's TM matter.
u complain, they must fix for free, this is t heir infra.

however, from the box to your modem, u bear the cost.
if u ask TM people com & do, it's expensive.
u can get 3rd party in which u hav 2 options.
1) get the fiber cable & replace the whole cable, meaning u hav to relay the internal fiber wiring.
2) cut & patch the part that is broken. degration is expected, but this 1 depends on quality of work.

you can buy fibre optics cable but certainly not from diy. TM charge me 5k to pull until inside my house. So i ask them to pull until guard house. Then i hire 3rd party pull until indoor.

The question is the damage is on which after the TM box or before?

The difference between fibre optics and cat5e cable is very obvious.

fibre optics only 1 thin line

Can buy in plastic bag. Those usually just short 1 or 2 meter fiber cable that already have the connector at both end. Meant for indoor junction box to the modem.

Apparently a lot of ppl here post nonsense. Just call TM they will find out the problem and fix it for u. If it involve charges which I highly doubt they will inform u before they do.

Just call TM and ask. Internet is full of NBTD ppl who try to act smart giving out advice left n right without factual check. TS u should beware

Problem fixed a few days ago, by those hopeless TM. It looks like they fitted a fiber optic bridge to fix the damage.

Had to call those clowns five times to get things going and each time, they keep on saying they are checking on their side. WTF !!!

Yes bro, you can splice fiber optic cables. But usually those High Speed Broadband service provider won't provide you this service.

For dedicated leased line, we do provide this kind of services if your fiber optic has issue. Those HSBB unable to provide this service is because the machine itself cost around RM50k which there won't invest on it.

Fiber optic are actually protected by 2 layer of rubber before it reaches the fiber optic. You may refer image as below:-

After removing the 2 layer of protection, the fiber optic will be reveal and you have to use this machine below to cut the fiber optic precisely:-

Can you spot the fiber optic?

Splicing are possible just depending whether the service provider want to do and worth to do or not.

You have a good day smile.gif
