Before posting further, i would just like to state that this thread is by no means a way of promoting any questionable acts in terms of legality. The term 'modded' is very generic and vague. And according to other sites, there are many reasons to mod your console without any piracy implications. Anyway, you all can interpret it any way you want.

So now my question is, will modded Xbox 360s get bricked if i patch it with the latest update? I want to play Doom 3 on my 360 and as we all know, that game is a port and requires an update. Due to the nature of my Xbox 360, i am not using XBOX LIVE, so i will have to burn the update on a dvd and then install it.

And i know that some time back there was word that modded 360's were getting bricked, but how about now? Has anybody tried it?

The answers are mixed at the moment, some are screwed while others are not.

by rights imo, all moded 360s deserve the banhammer though biggrin.gif

true story. My friend John [name kept as generic as possible] called me up yesterday nite screaming and shouting in pain. I thought he was joking when he said his modded 360 'slashed his f**kin balls off' courtesy of the dvd drive.

scary.

Back to topic, as for your question, Microsoft might not do it now, but they might do it tomorrow. When that happens, the modders will find a new way circumvent that. So ask yourself this, do you wanna be in the game?

Another thing that you have to think about is the 3ROD issue. You can scour the forum to see what it's all about, it's pretty serious, and it's happening.

Come on man, JUMP IN! See you on Live. smile.gif

You guys just not answering the question. Gee.

Anyways, to TS, the bricking issue was due to MS's own fault, and people not flashing their consoles correctly. There was no patch issued specifically to detect hacked firmwares and intentional bricking.

AFAIK, you don't need to update to play a game? Only if you're on Xbox Live will it ask you to update before you can play a game (if the game requires an update)

one time at band camp...sounds very....allyson hannigan~ laugh.gif

ah well, u can't really terminate any kind of modding just by updates..IINM there's some kind of modchip available now where it can turn on and off (so to speak) depending on if ur going live or not. dunno bout tht..but tht sucks.

sorry if i sound rude, but how are we supposed to enjoy the benefits of having MS at home (offers, games retailing here, subscriptions in RM) if we are still known as 'The Carribean'?

to be fair to TS, i've heard tht some modded ones got away free without bricking and some didn't. like ionStorm pointed out it may be unintentional cos even some non-modded ones bricked.

maybe..just maybe...it's fair time an update should be available tht will turn your x360 into a testicle chewing monster if its modded. laugh.gif

I bought Doom 3 dvd for xbox 360. It is actually a ported version since the Xbox 1 logo appears at the start. But then a message appears and asks for an update.

And just now 1 red ring of death appeared. Luckily wasn't 3. Any of you guys get 1 ROD often? I got it after playing Quake 4. Somewhere during the first mission, in between levels, the loading crashed. Then when i change to GoW, then suddenly 1 ROD appeared. I reboot then okay liao. This never happened before.

one red ring which quadrant? if it's the lower right..thts probably a HDD error (correct me if i'm wrong)

i got it once, when my controllers were acting weird on me. I wanted to connect my 2nd controller, but it didn't register so i pressed the connect button on the console and suddenly 1 red ring. reboot then ok.

i went to that site. But i wanna know the consequences of updating. The cost is way too high if kena 3 red rings. Not to mention that we don't have official service center here.
