I want to get a 2nd hand ford fiesta 2011 model as my 1st car for work. But most of my family members and friends saying that don't get ford due to several reasons. I don't really care much about the performance, the house power, the torque moment, the gear transmission, etc. (I actually do concern about those things just they are not my main concerns.) And resale value is not my concern because i gonna keep it for some years. My main concerns about getting a 2nd hand ford fiesta 2011 are:

1. if any thing happen to the car, is the replacement parts very expensive and very hard to find in Malaysia (specifically in Penang)
2. is the maintenance fee (minor and major) very expensive compare to Honda and Toyota (not SC but those car service shops outside)

hope ford drivers and ford fiesta users can help me on that. Thanks in advance.

I own a fofi 2011 model, it's like this, if there is no problem there will be no problem untill the car is completely dead.

A few question to ask the previous owner,
a. Did he receive an FOC extended warranty?, if yes, ask for the letter from SDAC as a proof
b. HOw often he drive outstation (or is it a second car?), Ford is a strange car, the more it is driven, the less problem it is, especially on the transmission, my car i notice that if I tekan all the time, it has no problem, but if I drive like my grand ma, all sorts of problem comes out (contrary to Jap cars)
c. He use ron 97 or ron 95?, if during the first 2 years it is driven with ron 97, the engine will be very smooth, if not, completely pointless (this engine is a high compression engine that can truly benefit from high ron, low ron can mess up this engine)

Your concern,
b. Parts problem, quite unlikely, because the most possible damage will on the transmission (they call it PCM and TCM), if item "a" above is available, then no issues, if not, when it fails, it will cost 10k + to fix
c. Other parts, brake, spark plug, timing belt and etc (the common ones) are very normal, just like any other car
d. Expensive?, you can ask an infamous ford workshop aka "Bug" (you can google him out)

Common headache with this car
a. Gearbox and transmission (but hey, even VW high end model also have same complain on their DSG)
b. Engine vibration during jam (that's the characteristic - changing from gear 2 to 3 is a bit clumbsy, but if that happens during slope climb, then that is the real damage)

If you need to know more about ford, you can PM me, at least I own 3 fords, 1 nissan, 1 toyota, and I do not speak from hearsay, good luck!

Polo tsi comes with DSG

Which shares the same headache with FOFI, but DSG like any other dual clutch, if there is problem, it's a problem for life, if there is no problem, there will be no problem

TCM 4k-5k only IINM. Some has extended 10 year warranty for the TCM.

PCM is Ford's name for it's ECU.

Yes I can attest to the car needed to be driven hard. Driving slowly in traffic can wear it down rather quickly. The transmission is not built for slow driving under hot weather.

TCM 4 - 5k?, interesting, quotation from where? drool.gif

Just avoid Ford Fiesta unless you are a road warrior with a high tolerance for pain and a lot of time to take to the workshop. It's not as if there are no other cars for your money and you need to buy a possibly problematic car and hope for the best.
*
Hmm,.... not a road warrior, but 5 years no problem, only regular service, how did you maintain or driving style of your fofi?, just sharing for note changing

In the last 11 years of owning a Jap car I've never had to put the car overnight in a workshop for even one night. Can you say that of your Fiesta?
You are one of the very lucky ones. The average Fiesta owner will need to change their DCT within the first 3 years, sometimes more than once.
*
Hmm,..... maybe you can enlighten me on how many fofi got sent back on DCT?, I am also very curious to learn more, since you say average, care to share the numbers?

That's the figure that has been floating around from where I don't remember, it was slightly cheaper than a clutchpack (also 4-5k) IINM. You can ask SDAC if you have the chance.
In FnF, non-owners make more noise than owners that has bad experience.
*
LOL and facts of life, and they will say "in average" and also dunno where they got those info, like SDAC or Ford disclose those numbers,..... seriously, I am almost laughing at that post now

In the last 5 year of owning my fiesta, I've never had to put the car overnight in a workshop for even one night.

Saying something loudly means something, I presume?
Or it boil down to pure luck, then what's the difference ?
And again, get your terminology right before you blare like no tomorrow.

I know you're not a savvy guy, but please, please please try.

HI, I think let this Ginny fella win lah, arguing like this ain't gonna make our wallets thicker LOL
