Sedgewick is a renowned leather tannery, and they have been making their leather in Halsall, England for more than a hundred years.

Best in class tanneries are from Italy? Depends on what class you are talking about.

To me the best bridle leather is made by Bakers in England.
Best crocodile leather made by Heng Long in Singapore(owned by LVMH).
Best calfskin made by Annonay in France(owned by Hermes).
Best shell cordovan made by Shinki-Hikaku in Japan.

I had to google to find a good Italian tannery. Caravel Pelli Pregiate (owned by Gucci). Never heard of them before today...

Thanks. I dont mind buying online, but shipping from US will be costly and takes time.

Nice to see more local crafters. thumbsup.gif

Although their stitching is on the crude side IMO.

Hi all. I'm asking for a mid ranged leather belt suggestion to replace my current belt.

I am currently using braun buffel belt with the solid bull logo, which is 2 years old now. The condition of the belt is very bad and I would say it is time to change soon. The black leather skin is peeling at the area near my stomach due to sweat while in sitting position and wear and tear.
I do send to BB for polishing, but I guess 2 years is good enough? (Only had one belt thus I've been wearing it almost everyday)
I would like to keep the buckle if possible but it sender's BB don't provide belt replacement?

Any suggestion is kindly appreciated. Looked at AX, but the price after 20% is around rm380 which is close to BB

another BB belt is good. how much was the one u used?
i love my bb belt.

but if u really want the long lasting one, dont look for brands, need to custom make with real leather.

Hi everyone, I have *some questions regarding belt leather types.

After some reading online I know there are 4 main types of leather:

bonded leather (worst quality)
genuine leather
top grain leather
full grain leather (best quality)

I went shopping last weekend and found the following:

Calvin Klein belts are "100% cow leather"
Levi's has "100% Full grain bovine leather"

1) CK belts are presumably full grain leather? Since they cost about RM300-400

2) Levis was the only brand I found that labelled full grain leather (unless I missed out some other shops). Calling it "100% full grain" sounded weird though. But then again Levi's outlet surely wont be selling fakes right?

Hehe. I still stand by my original reply to this thread.

If you are looking for something that lasts, I strongly suggest getting something custom made for you from either bridle leather or harness leather. I have personally bought from these 2 sites:

http://www.narragansettleathers.com/belt114.html
http://leathergoodsconnection.com/

The first only has bridle but will deliver to Malaysia.

The second has both but will not deliver to US so you will need to use something like ComGateway or Borderlinx.

Or if your budget is higher(I am personally not willing to spend RM400++ on a belt):
http://www.equusleather.co.uk/
About GBP70 for a basic West End with delivery to Malaysia (use 10% discount code styleforum10%)

An unnecessary compromise in terms of materials and build quality.

Is this thread still active? Anyone tried G2000 belt before? It's rm150 but I'm not sure whether it's a top/full grain leather or bonded leather... If bonded I'll rather go for those below rm40. Or any suggestion on belt below rm200?

For 200, you can target some brand that with great offer. But, selection of design is limited.

I got a Coach two-face long time ago for 3xx after discount at outlet.

Just my 2 cent, I was looking for belt strap without buckle and been going around all retail shop but to no avail. Most sell with buckle, is it really that difficult to find replacement I thought, and then I was struck that at Pertama complex, there are many leather and jeans repair shop, went there and found this TZ leather shop, they specialized in leather and custom made stuff - including watch strap, gloves, conversion for canvas bag to full leather and many interesting stuff. Managed to get a genuine leather for my beloved Dunhill buckle.
