EUR 1 million get ASM?
well Exocet MM40 Block 3 cost usd 3.5-4 million each,  even NSM also cost 2.8-3 million each.
and kedah class only design with 4 ASM (2X2 formation).
and i think you confuse with Missile & launcher, only missile is cost usd 1m+-
*
Or as per my suggestion, take out the launch units on the old missile boats we're retiring anyway and install them on the Kedah-class. Should be doable. laugh.gif

WW2-era wrecks of British and Dutch warships sunk of Java Island goes 'missing'

user posted image
The cruiser HMNLS De Ruyter, one of the allied ships sunk in 1942 by the Japanese off Java Island has gone missing, presumably broken apart by illegal metal scavengers

The wrecks of three British warships that sank during the Second World have been destroyed by illegal metal scavengers.
An investigation was launched after divers also discovered three Dutch ships that were torpedoed in the same place off the coast of Indonesia in 1942 during the Battle of the Java Sea had vanished.

HMS Exeter, a 175m heavy cruiser, and destroyers HMS Encounter and HMS Electra, were destroyed by Japanese forces in March 1942.

Three Dutch vessels - HMNLS De Ruyter, Java and Kortenaer - all sank on February 27, 1942, in the Battle of the Java Sea off the coast of Indonesia.

The wrecks have been almost completely removed from the seabed by illegal scavengers, an act condemned by The Ministry of Defence.

A government spokesman said: 'The UK government condemns the unauthorised disturbance of any wreck containing human remains.

'We have contacted the Indonesian authorities to express our serious concern at this news and to request that they investigate the reports and take appropriate action to protect the sites from any further disturbance.'
He added, the desecration of wrecks of war causes distress to loved ones of those lost on board and is against international law.

The shocking discovery was made by an international expedition which sailed to the wreck site in preparation for next year's 75th anniversary of the battle, the Dutch defence ministry said.

Why on earth they still refer this as 'tank boat'?

Got tank turret on boat count as tank boat already? Should call as 'Gun boat'. laugh.gif

Exocets are designed to be installed in modular crate/launch units for smaller ships like small frigates, corvettes or missile boats, AFAIK they aren't designed to be launched by VLS. Most ships that use Exocets have max 8 missiles anyway IIRC. Smaller ships like missile boats carry as little as 2 missiles only.

actually Harpoon is smaller than Exocet, but now NSM also smaller than Harpoon & But NSM warhead also smaller。
JSM will have VLS version call JSM-VL (in RnD now), use for navy warship。JSM-VL will add 1 meter booster, range possible extend to 220km+ so can install in 5 meter MK41 VLS

Wah so lightweight? And here I thot Exocet small already. laugh.gif

suka dia org.. boat plane ke, tank plane ke, boat car ke.. janji indon bahagia.. anyone tried out such a platform before? i wonder how accurate is the gun while on water..
*
Just like tank on land, if the gun is fully stabilized then it should be pretty accurate.

This reminds me of the Soviet WW2 river gunboats. To simplify production, they simply installed tank turrets onto armored hulls to patrol the riverways of Russia.

the last time a ruski vessl berth and was stranded at indon port near kalimantan due to demurrage issues.. 18 of the 40 crew died after bringing on board moonlighted drinks laced with industrial alcohol.. noone expected them to drink so much
*
That's an exaggeration. The actual story goes like this (courtesy of wiki):
QUOTE
On 21 June 2011, after having been anchored off Muara Asam Asam in Kalimantan, Indonesia, for almost two months due to a commercial dispute on a quality of loaded nickel ore, seven crew members managed to purchase three litres of pure spirits from a ship chandler to have a party.

Unbeknownst to them, the captain of the ship had asked the ship chandler to deliver ethanol for the ship's medical kit, but had rejected the suspicious-looking bottles because they had no prints proving that the content was suitable for medical use. Instead of 90–95% ethanol spirit the liquid in the bottles contained 36% of methanol, and four of the seven crew members involved in the party died as a result of methanol poisoning.
sos

You could imbibe small doses of ETHANOL and it will give you a buzz. Not so much METHANOL though, that stuff is totally toxic to the human body and will kill no matter the dose.

I don't get soldiers sometimes. One time they will complain current weapons are too heavy, range is too long and uses bullets that are too large. Later complain weapons are too light, range is too short and uses bullets that are too small.

How la like that? confused.gif

Today I Learned: In WW2, the Nazis awarded 'German Blood Certificates' (Deutschblütigkeitserklärung) to Jewish military officers that served in the Armed Forces

A German Blood Certificate (Deutschblütigkeitserklärung) was a document provided by Hitler to Mischlinge (those with partial Jewish heritage), declaring them deutschblütig (of German blood). This practice was begun sometime after the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, and allowed exemption from most of Germany's racial laws.

These certificates were 300 mm (11¾ in) by 210 mm (8¼ in), with a signature on the front and the red seal of the Office of Racial Research of the Nazi Party. The back listed the ancestry of the individual concerned, back to the grandparents of the father and the mother. Individuals awarded these 'Blood Certificates' were deemed 'Honorary Aryans'.

During the Third Reich, the status of Honorary Aryan was occasionally conferred to certain Jews out of pragmatic considerations. For instance, Jews who had been decorated in World War I by providing military service for the German Empire and who had maintained their support thereafter were unofficially commemorated as "honorary Aryans" and subjected to comparatively less discrimination than most other Jews were.

These were also awarded to currently-serving military officers and soldiers which achievements allowed their racial status as Jewish to be overlooked. A top example is Field Marshall Erhard Milch, who was one of the fathers of the Luftwaffe and who reported directly to Hermann Goering. He was one of the highest recipients of the award. Another Luftwaffe top officer was General Helmuth Wilberg.

Other high-ranking Jewish recipients of the Blood Certificates were Wehrmacht Generals Gottard Heinrici, Artur Zukertort and his brother Karl Zukertort. Others were Waffen-SS General Horst Heyer, Kriegsmarine Admirals Bernhardt Rogge, Harald Netzbandt and Paul Ascher (who was Chief of Staff and first officer to the battleship Bismarck). Besides these high-ranking officers, numerous lower-ranking soldiers also was awarded these certificates. It is speculated that there are more than 150,000 soldiers of various ranks in the armed forces who are recipients of this award.

Werner Goldberg

Ironically, one of the most recognizable 'Blood Certificate' recipients was Werner Goldberg, the Nazi Party's poster boy for the ideal 'Aryan' Nazi soldier image. Although he was a strapping young man with dark blond hair and piercing blue eyes, he was actually half-jewish.

Navy's size slashed to a dangerous low: UK MPs warn shrunken fleet needs more ships to defend our shores and the Falklands

user posted image

The Royal Navy has been shrunk to a ‘dangerous and historic low’ and now does not have enough ships to combat global threats, MPs warn today.

The naval force must be increased if the country is to continue to protect its shores and the Falkland Islands, while contributing to Nato and other commitments, they caution. The current fleet of 19 frigates and destroyers – of which only 17 are usable – is ‘woefully low’ and to cut it any further would be ‘completely unacceptable’, a report concludes.

Compared to 35 ships in 1997, the fleet is ‘way below the critical mass required for the many tasks which could confront it’, the review by the Commons’ defence committee found. The cross-party MPs said: ‘As an island nation, the important of the Royal Navy to UK defence must not be underestimated.

‘The current number of frigates, destroyers and personnel inadequately reflects the potential threats and vulnerabilities facing the UK and its interests overseas.’

The dire assessment comes weeks after it emerged the Ministry of Defence has to refit the engines of all six Type 45 destroyers because they cannot cope with warm seas.

Well, considering UK is a maritime country where the Royal Navy used to be paramount, it's more embarrassing. Also UK still a very rich country, whereas dirt-poor Russia has less than the GDP of Portugal.

Strange. If the crew immediately felt that the repair works would take longer than the fuel on the fighter would last, why didn't they divert it to Khmeimim air base? The carrier group wouldn't be that far out from shore. confused.gif
