be considerate la, the packet has to travel across the sea you know...  rolleyes.gif

pray that they host a server in australia lo. u try ping some aus website most are <100ms
*
it's not a thing about being considerate. nitrofang is right about that server. could be that it's having a bottleneck of some sort. there was a LYN reader that could contact the TMNet team managing the firewall to send feedback to AT&T. anyone remembers?

as for Oz server, don't hope. more expensive to host it there than in the US.

Added on March 21, 2007, 8:35 amguys, when you're posting, please put down the time that it's usually fast. some of the IPs seem to be fast morning + afternoon but slows down drastically in the evenings + late night.

also post which server you play on. Crowded servers tend to have a different latency compared to the lower population servers. I'd suggest you try to log into a lower population server and see if there's an improvement to the game. Only to check if the line improves. I'm not asking you to transfer lah.

the last time we had a problem with an AT&T server, it was around the quake time. i have to dig LYN for that particular posting but I did remember that the feedback wasn't that positive.

as for AT&T, they are the largest telcos around and probably Telekom has had joint agreements with them for awhile, if the most recent agreement to develop local IPs is any indication.

no prob about hijacking the thread as long as it doesn't go into a promotion on how-to making complaints to streamyx. i tend to crit ppl with text when it grats my nerves a bit.

regarding your remark about 219.95.*, i suspect that if we go down and check the 3rd portion of the IP address (the * bit), we could literally nail down where the problems occur. I'm not sure what the 3rd potion represents though, whether it's the physical location of the phone exchange or what. too much effort for me to go and crunch numbers and come up with stats. especially when majority of WOW LYN readers don't quite post up the relevant info.

Hmm...out of curiosity, do you guys use a firewall to block unwanted pings?

One of the things I used to do was to check how many "intrusions" came in via the IP I've logged on. Certain IPs get massive amounts of pings. By massive, I mean every 1-2 ms, there's a ping to your IP via one port.

Whenever this happened, I used to redial up until I get a relatively "ping-less" line. And that usually means I can game for a bit longer.

didn't u say that u were quitting?

btw, use a firewall to check for DoS attacks on the IP u're using.

i'm planing, if the situation still can't be resolve, then i have to stop.
anyway did u have any suggestion on that dos attack scanner?
*
i'm using zonealarm (free firewall). there's a log viewer showing blocked pings that come in. If I see a lot of pings to my IP via a particular port number, I disconnect + reconnect to another one until I see another one.

info, are u in KL? I spoke to a friend last nite and he got onto 60.49.* . Lag was 300 + 400 ms.

hmmm...then probably just mind. between 7-9 pm, had guildies who couldn't see heals and buffs and were stuck in one place. but later on, it got better.

although we did have people disconnecting and mobs bugging out in Black Morass. bugger.

Added on April 10, 2007, 10:54 amhmm...line seems to improve significantly over the past few days.

how's everyone else? especially those on the west coast.

doh.gif i always did wonder what's the point in saying sorry after a person has sweared so much. seems pointless and do it too often, it becomes less sincere. tongue.gif

anyway, hopefully u get a faster connection tomorrow. then less swearing in this thread. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Boonie @ Apr 16 2007, 04:03 PM)
this is all guessworks but i think it bear some truth to the recent degrading in line quality (again):

maxis recently released a broadband services in KL whereby ppl can get a free router and have wireless broadband connection to their pc.

From what i know is that broadband service in malaysia is monopolised by Telekom and therefore those bandwidth maxis is using is leased from telekom.

Due to the usual lameness of Telekom (more customer and less hardware upgrade) i bet those bandwith leased to maxis are the bandwith that we have been having for the past year. and if i am right it explains why recently the 218.111 have literally went from heaven to hell.

So game on tmnet, death to quality improvement via competition. all hail monopoly. rclxms.gif  GG

I heard it was something else though. In the past couple of months into 2007, all data transmissions outside of US going in are being screened. Hence the lag. Why? Fighting the war against terror, apparently. It's random so it may come and go.

Line connections have been easing up a little bit recently. But again, it also depends. Depending on the server you're on, it also depends on the server reaching "critical mass" to cause "significant lag spikes". That's what happened yesterday around 6 pm - 8 pm on Aman'Thul (Oceanic server). The latency jumped from 400 ms to 2.5k. After that, it returned back to normal. With US servers, I've no experience but it could be the same. I'm not sure.

the thing is my guild have member from Singapore and Australia but all dont have lag except for the malaysian lol

btw Singapore and Australia member has been getting 200-300+ ping constant, while we get 500-800.  icon_question.gif

lag spikes are different from low constant pings. spikes can last quite a long period of seconds/minutes and during this time, the latency meter does not update.

and it can effect both. i've been in situations where my connection was ok but the singaporeans and aussies had problems. laugh.gif although recently, a lot of aussies were complaining about one of their ISPs (Telstra). not sure whether it's already eases up but a guildie was frustrated having to go into Arenas with bad lag.

I am sneaky. Rather than have them make the complaint for me in their system, I do it myself. That way, they are forced to deal with me, whether they like it or not. Because, I have a complaint number.

Doesn't solve the problem but it gets them to put more effort into it. Whether it's a good effort or not, it's pretty much debatable.

are u playing behind a firewall or antivirus? i usually keep them on. helps to keep the connection faster surprisingly. presumably some unwanted pings coming through.

strange that all taiwan traffic is going through those servers. when comparing to surfing US sites, telekom doesn't restrict.

P2P issue you reckon?

could be deliberate network latency. bleargh.

anyway, try to see if you can get 124.82 or 124.84 . both seem to be ok for me but sometimes morning and afternoon is fine but lagging like hell in evening.
