I find gerbils harder to tame because they're really jumpy.. but i suppose they'll bond better with their owners compared to hamsters am i right?

QUOTE(hao @ Apr 2 2007, 06:25 PM) Errr... what's your definition of "tame"? Everyone has their own definition of "tame". In my case, my "tame" means that they don't bite and you can handle them. Your "tame" might be "staying still", if that's the case, then yes, I agree that you can't hold them for quite long, as they'll struggle and start exploring your hand when you put them on your hand. Well yeah ur right.. i refer tame as---> will come to your hand.. won't try to escape when you catch it... won't get shocked and jump and run when you make sudden movements. |

Hmm.. more updates from a noob here. My sp agouti will only let me stroke it's back when it's busy chewing the toilet roll.. the DTW sleeps a lot.. what are the common gerbil diseases and symptoms? Sp agouti is not like 2-3 times more active than DTW..

QUOTE(dien @ Apr 2 2007, 08:21 PM) blueheng, seems your tank full of kotak.. lol.. because i haven't had the time to go buy aroma burner yet.. their food i just put at one corner for now.. so i use boxes and toilet rolls..lolthen your gerbils' teeth become more sihat & kuat.. haha.. JK.. QUOTE(hao @ Apr 2 2007, 08:23 PM) BlueHeng, gerbils love to dig the corner of the tank, so just let them be lah. Nth to worry about. You bought new tank d? Or still using the 2ft one? Still stuck with the 2ft.. no time to go out buy these days.. have projects and report to finish.. the stupid physics project must create a contraption for an egg and drop it from the 5th floor. Egg must weigh at least 55g while the whole thing can only weigh 85g.. any engineering students here? lol.. sorry for the OT... |

Yar can't estimate.. so everyday i just give them approximated 2 hand full... about almost what nezu said lor.. 2 tablespoon of food. I doubt they eat all that much right? materials..? totally dunno.. XD die.. maybe can ask gerbils for advice...Hmmm... what's the materials that you're going to use? Btw, my sis named my ww Snowball.. DTW as Whitey-Chan and Sp Agouti as Brownie-Chan... swt.. she got the whitey chan idea from bleach.. Captain Hitsugaya.. -.-" But isn't the term 'chan' behind used mostly for guys??? |

LOL...QUOTE(babymoli @ Apr 2 2007, 10:01 PM) Amazing.. mine I take out and put on tank.. got pee also.. but only about 2 small drops.. unlike hammi.. walaoweh.. the pee a lot wan..QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Apr 2 2007, 10:20 PM) Wah, looks like all of you are having fun with your gerbils heheheh... yeap.. really having fun fun.. haha.. entertaining to watch.. The DTW should be fine la.. when I hand feed, it'll come out and run.. then take food.. then go sleep again.. very lazy pig dunno why.. =)BlueHeng Do not worry lah. Gerbils are hardy rodents. They rarely fall sick. The only sickness that you will see gerbils get is bloody nose but you will notice it when the nose has got red stains. For now, your gerbils are just new to you lah. They do act different from hamsters coz hamsters are nocturnal and they are diurnal. Also gerbils are social colony animals so they will constantly act active and wrestle and tumble hahahah... QUOTE(babymoli @ Apr 2 2007, 10:35 PM) Ok. I will keep an eye on them often. Currently i only see little stain & they aren't rubbing their nose. May be because just change to new bedding. But i did sneezed when i put the bedding into tank. I guess the dust is quite alot. Hmmm.. I haven't get to experiment with diff beddings yet.. not sure mine sensitive to what. Currently on 100% corn corbs.. ex leh... lol.. next week gonna use delikate. This post has been edited by BlueHeng: Apr 2 2007, 10:44 PM |

QUOTE(babymoli @ Apr 2 2007, 10:47 PM) Hmm... You better use delikate as i see few of us that using Chipsi Super/Classic got that bloody nose problem. I might change to delikate once this packet finish. Yeah same plan here.. mix corn corb and delikate should do the trick.. =) Maybe the current batch of chipsi isn't very good... wait a while then try again lor...Yup. Only corn corb for bedding is very expensive. But from what i see mix both wood shaving & corn corb can let them dig nicely. QUOTE(hao @ Apr 2 2007, 10:49 PM) I haven come out with their names yet. I think I'll name the PEW/DTW Snowie, the pied Agouti i'm still thinking... PEW stands for what ah? Haha.. mine also not sure whether the tail will become dark or not. Hopefully it will. If not arr.. will just look like a white lab. rat...Pet family on Saturday still got quite a lot of delikate wor.. but only the small pack ones I think. Toilet roll they chew very fast one... hahaha... walaoweh.. ur right.. luckily i noticed it and asked.. zzz... what are the symptoms of a dehydrated gerbil? The bottle was slightly stucked for some reason... very little water flowing out.. |

QUOTE(hao @ Apr 3 2007, 06:33 PM) Me geng ler... Well i guess mine wasn't dehydrated YET... was still running around. I just gave them another box.. tissue paper box. wahaha... Dehydrated gerbil ar? Will become inactive and it is deadly to such a small animal. Thirsty gerbil will fight over the bottle like that you saw, and if you hand is wet, they'll lick from your hand. QUOTE(babymoli @ Apr 3 2007, 06:56 PM) Hahaha.. I keep moving my hand inside the tank. They come near & sniff & play around. Then i use my finger like push push them, they will hold my finger play then nip. lolz.. Finger moving also nip. At least yours will respond to your hand.. mine dun even bother much.. only sometimes will come sniff, then run away.. i touch also they'll run. How come babymoli's gerbils so fast used to her but mine duwan me still... Yup. They're so curious about the surrounding. Keep running around to look down. Didnt dig but exploring. |
