Last month we tried some Hokkaido baked cheese tarts for the very first time. It was a long queue at the kiosk in Mid Valley Megamall. The tarts tasted very good when they are warm as the cheese just melts in the mouth with nice aroma. So good that my daughter lined up for the 2nd time and packed 5 boxes home. There was this Singaporean who was also in the queue and she mentioned that she was buying the tarts for the 2nd time as she found the tarts to be delicious when she tried the day before. In Singapore the cheese tarts are more expensive.

Are there other good food other than these cheese tarts?

ive tried both Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart & Tokyo Secret.
IMO, Tokyo Secret far more gooding but pricier as well (Hokkaido RM5.80/piece & Tokyo Secret RM7.50/piece if not mistaken).

Hokkaido is from Secret Recipe while Tokyo Secret is franchise from HK.

Recommend TS to try Tokyo Secret, can find at Sunway Pyramid / One Utama / Ikano

+1

I'm not that fancy with the so called 'melted cheese' in it. Even though I'm a cheese lover.
Still feel lack of 'ummph'.

Cheese tart sell in Wmart more delicous...!

Lots of this cheese tart around lately. Aeon is marketing its own, and other bakery shop also sell their own variant. Anyone tried the King's Confectionery one? How does it compare?

Just because the name has "hokkaido" so they can sell at expensive price. Just like italian pasta and so on. The real cost isn't that much

frankly speaking, they are just over-rated tarts at the same time overpriced.

i find nothing fantastic at all, rather choose wmart blueberry cheese tarts instead with real fruits inside.

Are the blueberry cheese tarts readily available at all times for customers to purchase, say at 6.00pm, one hour before Wmart closes? Will make a trip to test these tarts very soon.

Thanks. Yes, have read about Tokyo Secret. Will keep this in mind although I usually don't go to One Utama/Ikano or Sunway Pyramid. At RM7.50 per piece is certainly premium.

The cheese tart is seriously good. I've tried Hokkaido cheese tart and Uncle Tetsu. I felt Hokkaido is better cause it's more chessy and fluid. Uncle Tetsu is more solid feel. Haven't try Tokyo cheese tart yet but they are opening a new shop in Queensbaymall, Penang soon! biggrin.gif

However, it really burns a hole in my wallet...5.80 per biji man...can eat nasi campur adi.

Went to Wmart and tried the blueberry cheese tarts, durian tarts, lemon tart and blueberry cheese cake. Yes, the blueberry cheese tarts do taste delicious with real blueberries inside the tarts which add a real flavour to the tarts. And the durian tarts, they use real high-quality durians which give it an authentic durian flavour. Very nice indeed. In comparison to the Hokkaido cheese tarts, I still prefer the Hokkaido cheese tarts as the taste is creamier. The cheese flavour of the blueberry cheese tart at Wmart is a bit strong compared to Hokkaido which I believe use more cream than cheese. After I took one blueberry cheese tart, I don't feel like taking the 2nd one. I think one can only have two blueberry cheese tarts in one day, maximum. The strong flavour will prevent one from taking too many tarts. But with Hokkaido, I can take 2 cheese tarts at one go, maybe three of four cheese tarts in one day.

But for value, the blueberry cheese tart and also the durian tart are high value, much cheaper and affordable than Hokkaido cheese tarts. For the price, no complaints.

I would rate the tarts as follows:-

Wmart blueberry cheese tart
Taste : 8/10
Value : 9/10

Wmart durian tart(depending whether one likes durian or not)
Taste : 8/10
Value : 8/10

Hokkaido cheese tart
Taste : 9/10
Value : 5/10

Yes, to me the Hokkaido cheese tarts are good, better taste than the Wmart blueberry cheese tart which is also good in its own way. The taste of the Hokkaido cheese tarts is unique. The taste of the blueberry cheese tart of Wmart is more mainstream ie. more common. The high price is probably due to the high quality ingredients and the higher rent for the premise (Mid Valley Megamall) compared to cheaper rent in small super or hypermarkets such as Wmart.

Yes it is expensive. One box of 6 costs RM29 whereas the other options such as Wmart's blueberry cheese tarts cost RM13+ also for one box of 6 tarts. Taken once in a while is okay. These tarts cannot be consumed too much as one will get sick of the taste very easily. For this Wmart tarts, I have already got a bit sick after taking 2 tarts today. I am not sure if I will still enjoy the tarts tomorrow. Have bought too much.

Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts is good, I tried in both fresh and chilled and both taste nice. But it is really too expensive thus I will think it is not worth the value, not going back for it anymore even though it is good

The blueberry cheese tarts at Wmart are not as nice as the Hokkaido cheese baked tarts to me. I don't know what kind of ingredients the bakery at Wmart uses for the blueberry cheese tarts. The cheese is mixed with something else. Hokkaido baked cheese tarts are a combination of cheese and cream and the flavour is nicer and more authentic to me. Wmar'ts cheese tarts taste a bit weird.

Also, one more thing. Hokkaido baked cheese tarts can be taken hot or warm. When it is cheese tarts are piping hot fresh from the oven, it's very nice. But the Wmart's bluberry cheese tarts are only available cold. If one wants to have freshly baked hot cheese tarts, Wmart's blueberry cheese tarts are out.

Like our forumers said, it's rather overrated, plus the rental cost...

In attached example of my DIY no bake cake in a cup, the top portion could be improvised into the "melted cheese " as in cheese tart recipe.
This simple version consists of only low fat milk powder, Horlick, little hot water, and mix into desired consistency.

If u could spend like an hour on weekend, and with a cheap blender and oven,
u could actually make ur own melted cheese tart with simple ingredients... Cream cheese + Mozzarella cheese + Ricotta cheese, or substitute with ground cashew nut powder and instant pie sheets from the hypermarket, or make ur own pie sheets, or use lasagna sheets as the pie variation.

Nice work.

It's a lot of work to bake tarts or cakes and moreover it's a lady's job which also requires skill. Since we don't take these tarts too often (perhaps once in every two to three months), buying the quality tarts from the good bakeries are a much better option for us. The plus point is the quality of the tarts is guaranteed to be delicious.

Yes u got the point.
Sadly in a few more years our RM might sink further values, with inflation heightened, and buying desserts outside would be a sort of burden like in US or Europe.
That's where DIY spirit comes, as practiced in many Western countries nowadays.
It's not a surprise as well to come across a whole lot of guys dessert masters, range from Chinese, Western, Indian, etc.

The good part of learning DIY cooking or bakery is that, u can choose to use a lot less butter or oil while still able to create the same yumminess, and flavour and taste can be diversified to suit ur family members, which might not always available from outside

In other words ur family health are much guaranteed on top of enjoying nice meals or desserts.

Just my 2 cents. : D

Just found out that some bakeries in Tesco have cheese tarts for sale. Suprisingly, it's rather good, quite close to Hokkaido's quality. Only RM3.50 per piece, sold at RM7.00 for 2 pieces in a box.

Folks, just to update this thread. One of my daughters bought Tokyo Secret and Hokkaido cheese tarts from Mid Valley Megamall yesterday. I can now confirm that Tokyo Secret is the best baked cheese tart, followed by Hokkaido. The crust of Tokyo secret is light and fluffy, very nice. IN comparison, the crust of Hokkaido cheese tarts is hard. Big win for Tokyo Secret in the crust. As for the cheese, although quite close, Tokyo Secret still has the edge over Hokkaido in having a stronger, creamier and more flavorful taste. Hokkaido's cheese is milder in the taste.

But the price of one Tokyo Secret tart is RM3 more than Hokkaido, much costlier. At RM7.90 for one tart, can have a premium chicken rice dish with drinks already.

There is certainly a difference between normal chicken rice and "premium" chicken rice. Though it is off-topic and not relevant to this thread, so it is best not to go into details here on this thread.
