I donno how the fella always make such long videos, I like my videos short and sweet. biggrin.gif

But yeah RX 550 and RX 560 should be the main sellers.

RX 580 sucks.
*
Yeah, but at tat time, Just only 1 RX550 review on youtube @@ No other choice =w=
Long video really make ppl sleep, except the day of wait for vega in streaming, but just get "VEGA is VEGA" ....

RX580 is okay lah ~
for more guarantee on max setting gaming 1080p than gtx1060? Its suit for ppl who want get new card or upgrade from old 4-5 gen.

Read in reddit before, the thread is about marketing and explain why nvidia use rebrand always, and explain the fact of amd gain < usage becoz of keep push out new technology.

Kinda feel sad tat a specialist will last shorter than a buisnessman even its a truth XD

Consumer always hope for better technology, but due to consumer always like to be spoon feed, easily mislead by marketing, and the result just as now what we get.

Nvidia actually produces new technology too, that's why the Pascals are doing so well when compared to Maxwell.

AMD Polaris is good actually, when it was launched the RX 480 was great but it was short-lived as GTX 1060 came in.

AMD introduces technology, like their APU were great stuff but it was really niche, and their pricing sucks. After that the APU and the AMD FX range processor (Bulldozer) were stuck for a really long time.

Polaris was good, the Polaris refresh (or refined) isn't exactly refined. Now we'll have to see what they produce for Vega.
*
Yup, they does, but not often as much as AMD in past. One new tech occur, means need more budget.
AMD push too many new tech before, limited budget on marketing, that result most of consumer choose nvidia than ati, even nvidia is rebrand samething about 3 year?! even that time ati performance is better.
If u r a game company ceo, when u develop a game, which gpu u will priority to optimize? sure, is the more famous nvidia, even there's better performance ati.

In the time ongoing, margins of market goes to nvidia too much than ati, that cause amd budget is worse and worse.
Amd need develop both of gpu and cpu, in past, tricks of inte inl done a impact on amd as well.
Bulldozer again is a failure that made by AMD's wrong decision, all these in result, amd need to sell of their own cpu lab.

Ryzen is counted as one of big success of AMD, because this time, AMD change their method, not only in move from bulldozer to ryzen , but also invest much in marketing.
They success use a above average performance, not only in multi threading, as well in IPC, with a better the price to challange Intel.

Facebook founder wont success if without his friend done well in marketing, Microsoft wont success if bill gates fail in marketing.

Its true that technology that Nvidia sucess in Pascals, but if u look at the analysis of their marketing, there's a bid different that causes the gap between amd and nvidia, its marketing.

got any news for rx 550 and 560 price?
i not sure wan to sell off my i7-3770 now
or wait till vega out only sell out my i7 rig to ryzen 5 1600x full rig

Stoled this price from Idealtech =w=

I'm bought all part mix new and used early, because i want get my desktop earlier since i'm back to malaysia.
Currently, I'm using lappy, and miss out nice deal of used gpu, if i buy a new unit of rx570 4gb RM950 for gaming, nexth month vega may release, its mafan to seel out and buy new one, somemore, my lost due to just used one month, counted as failure....
This my situation @@ just because i'm not urgent use pc lah... less gaming

If ur situation, u r kin to use i7 currently and didnt any trouble, u may willing to wait for vega
Why not just wait if u not urgent.

You can't market when you don't have new products. biggrin.gif

AMD didn't have many new revolutionary things. The HD 7xxx series was good but mostly used by miners, then HD 2xx and 3xx were rehash after rehash.

Fury line-up was really nice but AMD failed at the pricing part.

Polaris was nice but short-lived. Polaris Refresh need not elaborate further la.

As for Processor - APU, I really love that tech but pricing sucks and no one really picked it up. It's technology packed but in this aspect, I guess can say they failed at marketing.

Nvidia on the other hand also rehashed technology before, I bashed them before too from 8xxx series to 9000 series rehash, then the GT series weren't doing well for some time too. AMD graphics was the better choice until Max well if I'm not mistaken. Maxwell and Pascal were the real game changers for Nvidia.

Another thing to note is that Nvidia can focus on GPU alone but AMD actually focusing on CPU and GPU. biggrin.gif So can say it's AMD vs Intel + Nvidia.
*
Agreed. But nvidia success play market with rebranding even new gen gains small performance increase in back year.

Many of new tech by amd in past not really useful due to not had be optimization use by other field, and nvidia start with marketing play well start with 8xxx era, start from that time, many games with nvidia logo www optimization also done better in nvidia.

Pascal really powerful for the moment, polaris is short lived because, nvidia backup with newer tech behind since they got lots of money for develop. Nvidia just as intel, they will use their advantage of market gain their better technology, and can counter any attack by release the newer tech.

Intel play the trick of 5% increasement per years with high price these years, becoz amd faildozer too many years XD

I hope vega can compete with polaris, but seems a bit hard, no news yet, just a dual polaris gpu @@ feel that amd not confidence to compete well, maybe reach gtx 1080 performance is AMD bottleneck?

Added:
I'm just rewatch this again properly , its good to explain, can read comment as well, more info in there.

mind explaining why it sucks?

im looking for an upgrade for my gtx770, and the rx580 price n specs look good, and one more thing because i just bought a monitor with amd freesync
*
RX580 only increasement 5% performance from rx480 by power consumption increase 20%.
In US, RX580 cheaper than RX480, in malaysia RX480 dropped RM50, but RX580 expensive than RX480 bout RM200.
Roughly RM150 to get an RX580 nitro+ (Best clock speed), better top up some to Fury X which better performance or go more to used/new GTX1070.

For a 2 years old tech which rebrand, its not worth at all ....
RX580 is about 60fps to current 1080p maximum setting, after 1 or 2 years? Can it still handle?

I will go to RX570 4gb RM960 which possible chance overclock better clock speed than rx480, which only 5% performance lower, if only willing targeting on current 1080p gaming.

In conculsion, RX580 not a real sweet point.

Card is great, price is bad, in Malaysia at least.
Did you use aftermarket 480 for performance and reference 480 power consumption for comparison?  laugh.gif
*
Aftermarket 480 is oc one, need hit 1440mhz very hard.
580 is oced 480, can hit nearly 1500mhz easily.
For this line rx480/rebranded rx580, increase bit of performance by consume much more power, in result, performance/watt drops.

P/S price expensive 30% than US as New Zealand, i'm ok at all ~ because currency well... But malaysia? expensive everything and low currency = sucks

You said it consumed 20% more power, is that compared to reference 480 or from new 185w TDP of RX580 vs 150w 480?

From Toms review 580 Nitro power consumption is similar to 480 Nitro when gaming.
user posted image
Performance difference is larger when using game that actually optimized.

This was against MSI RX-480 Armor OC clocked at @1300mhz, not crappy 480 with reference cooler.

Also like i mentioned before, RX580 default voltage is higher, you can always undervolt it.
I once downvolted my old 290x at -75mV while giving is a slight bump in core clock to 1060mhz(1040mhz) and memory clock to 1500mhz(1250mhz) while consumed less power compare to stock setting.

This is from tweaktown (3D marks and Metro Light). Yours from tomshardware (gaming and tortune).
Tourtune test in tom's hardware result more power consumption than rx 480 nitro.

If tweaktown is true, 27w~37w increase just for a gpu is not a performace/watt choice. Anyway, the performace/watt oledi lose to gtx1060 long time ago @@

Who's right? I dunno sweat.gif

If there's no increase of power consumption, its great, actually, even there is increase of 30w average, wont hurt u tnb bill so much per year @@
If really willing for save tnb bill, just go to gtx 1060 @@
But still i wont happy, RM200 from nitro 480 to nitro 580, price increase 20% to get u 5% overall performance increase, 10% for game optimization.

I prefer direct measurement instead of "total system". laugh.gif

Also i don't understand, they tested it with Ryzen R5-1600x?
But at OC and Power page they said

And their Power Consumption graph show the card averaging(?) ~280watts at stock? with stock Ryzen R5-1600x system?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

But their Ryzen R5 review show R5-1600x system use similar power to i7-7700k system?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

They mentioned midrange card and adjust their test system for "midrange build" but wiling to waste their time to test on 4k, 5k and even 8k resolution when giving more insight about the card frame time performance at 1080p/1440p is more valuable info to viewers/readers.

IIRC, Toms torture test = Furmark and gaming test = Metro:LL@4K. Like i mentioned few pages back..that's what i learnt  when i'm still using 290x, i think it still apply to Polaris line up.
*
Agreed. But i need some explain, gaming in tom's is according to what game?
Because there is quiet weird that gaming maintain almost nothisng sifferent power consumption but the tortune which is benchmark give a noticeable different.
As common, i know that a benchamrk may push a gpu as hard as possible, is it possible that the power consumption under gaming in tomb's for game which not really gpu intensive?

Actually, is it worth to have a RX580? Its depends on different ppl different need, different choice.
I feel sucks, just because of improvement performace lightly from rebrand, consume more power if utilize?, the most i care is pricey more 20%

Just for my 2 cent of logical, i may getting a used/new GTX 1070 or RM1650 fury-x over a RM1550 nitro+ RX 580.
If i'm in condition of tight budget, why not i just choose better value of nitro pulse RX570 4gb which possible oc higher clock than rx480 by oc.

AMD card power consumption varies depend on BIOS and chip binning<- this doesnt apply to nvidia as well?

Gaming = Metro:LL@4K
Torture = Furmark

Of course 580 will use more power in Furmark since it have higher clock speed and higher voltage, i think that model they tested run at 1450mhz.

Yeah the price sucks, bought my 980 Ti 10 months ago for RM1.6k new.

I don't think Nvidia binned their chip anymore since Pascal and BIOS power limit is higher on some higher end card but most of them have similar power limit, with GPU Boost 3.0 and good cooling all of them will consume similar power at max boost speed.
That's the thing, reference 480 got nerfed to fix the "PCIE power issue". Use aftermarket 480 then power consumption gap will narrow or diminish.
*
I read a comment before, the comment is against something bout a thread starter which stated that ati tflops > nvidia, its should better than nvidia => Game developer who didn't optimization is wrong.

The one who comment stated himself is one of big company game developer who if field about 20 years, admit ati is more future proof and futher tech than nvidia, but's the tflops better doesnt result better performance, due to many kind of problem, include coding which how to optimization performance of ati arch should be. Till today, they still in hard for optimization to get fully ati potential, but unfortunately, they still cannot handle well, even vulkan tech is still try getting optimization for gaming.

From analysis of several comment or review, i more to believe AMD got better arch and tech etc, hopefully their hardwork is granted, and make a real king which can compete Nvidia @@

Its kinda a sad that a gundam which more powerful but sucks OS installed XD

Am i? Who cares what the card power limit is design for, what matters is the real power consumption no?
Can you try run 580 vs 480 at similar clock speed and voltage?  hmm.gif

In the end RX-580(Polaris 20) is the same RX-480(Polaris 10) but with improved manufacturing process so it could reach higher clock speed.
I posted this awhile back, good video showing one of the reason why Nvidia card have stellar DX11 performance.

Another Nvidia secret sauce is Tiled Based Rendering which enabled since Maxwell, one of the reason why Kepler(700 series) got left behind in driver department.

*
Both video is interesting in analysis @@ love it =w= cause i also learn a bit by a bit whats going on of gpu cpu arch.

If 1st video's statement is true, then can explain why nvidia and amd gpu got a gap under ryzen, but not intel =w=

2nd video analysis effieciency of nvdia compared to step by step of ati
Its remind me somekind like painting one layer by one layer =w=

I would more prefer to latter, feel not curi malas by doing well done, but confirm that its not efficiency for current generation.

For conclusion, its not about who's arch is more future proof, its just a matter of right decision of vision in right time under right support, will result achievement.

Same as in history, that r rumors that wright brothers is not the 1st who design the plane, but they r successful make a able-flight plane.

QUOTE(goldfries @ Apr 29 2017, 06:03 PM)
Yes it really improved on clock speed but at the cost of power draw.

I already have RX 580 and have been using it for a week, I confirm the power draw is higher than the RX 480 (reference) that I used.

I look at my benchmarks, it is as what AMD mentioned - maximum 12% gain. That's just maximum, average is 5% - 10% gain which is very little for that added power draw.

Put it simple, RX 580 (only custom available) at around 180W power draw vs RX 480 (reference) that performs almost like the RX 580 but at less than 150W.

BUT realistically speaking, in the end not many people really care about power draw. Add 30W only even though on % looks big. smile.gif

So if you look at what you gained vs what you lose, the improvement isn't exactly impressive. If the there's performance gained without additional power draw, that'll be great.
*
Full load, 30w x24 x7 x52 = 262kW = 262 unit = RM 78/12 = RM 6.50 per month = ayam burger double tambah cheese
Actually is nothing big dfferent of burden for full load 365 days XD

Just because there is better efficiency of nvidia, that's why will feel dissapointed.
But as video befoe, nvidia done a really right decision of archive efficiency.@@
