Just to shut up some pushy bankers (most likely the bank's management trainees LOL) and free gift (sometimes - the SC golf umbrellas are handy), I've applied for CCs in the past for the heck of it, knowing that for sure kena reject (similar case - no mortgage, car loan, etc) and had no business owning a credit card.

Then I did the SC card application one last time few years ago - also for the heck of it, etc - and received a text saying that my application was approved. Ish. It might have something to do with me finally actually starting to file income tax (never did earlier in working life cos too poor to kena bayar, so why file?) and finally "in the system", or maybe not? 

I can't explain how I managed to get not just one, but TWO CCs (they make you apply for 2, even though you only want one), but that was my experience with SC.

But you might be right about local banks being more stringent (always heard the same thing): it took me longer (and more attempts) to finally be approved for Maybank card and it took a sympathetic person at a roadshow event who promised to help me in the application process, albeit as a "fresh grad" application.

IMO, you might have a better chance at those bank roadshow popups than if you walk into a branch to apply...? Maybe?

Otherwise: try, and try again.

Submitted request to cancel JOP on 19 JAN, and then SST charged on 25 JAN while the request still pending.     
Yet to get call back from retention team. hopefully no need ding dong here and there to reserve it before cancel. 

Just want to have it cancelled, no hoping for any retention.
