Hi everyone
I am new here. This is the First time I write anything in this forum.
In fact, I was invited to Schlumberger assessment center (April 2010) and I surfed in the INTERNET to find more information about the interviews. That how I came in touch with this Forum. And it helped me a lot. That is why, I decided to write my own experience here, to share with the next candidates.
In the beginning, we were 12 candidates, 1 of us have applied for petro-technical positions and the others for field engineer (including me).The recruiter said that at the end of day 1 he will let us know which one can join in day 2. Also he collected our C.V.
Day 1:
1- Aptitude tests:
a- Mathematic test: this contains 60 questions of simple mathematic, such as (x-b)2...
and some questions regarding basic electricity, and two or three question about velocity/distance/time.
Advice: refresh those rules in advanced.
b- Mechanical test: this contains 48 questions about carols, wheels (for example: 6 wheels work together in which direction move wheel 2 and 3), basic questions you
can easily solve (for example, a jar filled with water and connected with four channel to jar 2. the channels (tubes) were closed with several
obstacles. you need to open one of the channels to let the water stream to jar 2. you allowed to open only one obstacle. which one?)
Advice: only concentrate
c- Logic test: this contains 36 questions
Advice: No possible advice.
2- Presentation: about Schlumberger, the history and the present. Also he explained what different segments are there and what they do. He asked questions about the company as well. I think he wanted to know how much did you know about the company. With other words, do you know really really, what company you applied for? and also he asked questions about basic geology (such as, what is the order of oil, water and gas in the reservoir). This question is meant for candidates with another background then petroleum and geology. Try to ask questions as well, he will notice you.
3- one to one interview: at the end of this interview he will tell you if you can join the next day. NOTE that, the aptitude test results were not in yet. Which means he only read your C.V. and he will try to find out more about you and if you fulfill other schlumberger's requirements (for example, if you applied for field engineer and you don't have driven license, you certainly will not be invited to the second day).
In my case, I applied for field engineer. But during the presentation, I found that I actually should have applied for petro-technical.
Field engineer: is all about collecting data, running logs, etc...
petro-technical: is about interpreting the collected data
So, the first question I got during the one-to-one interview if I really field engineer rather than petro-technical. How he got that about me??? from my C.V. and references letters.
Advice: Just be your self.
he asked me about my work experience, I have done 3 days drilling experience. and he kept asking me about why I am so exited when i am talking about this experience. I think, he wanted to be sure that my choice to switch to petro-technical is the right one. He felt that I am more motivated for field engineer, but my experience (C.V. and reference letters) shows that I am petro-technical. So, he wanted to be sure.
Also there was another gay, who applied for field engineering, but the recruiter think that he is petro-technica. The next day the recruiter was not really convinced, he told him, your back ground is petro-technical your experience, as well. and suddenly you want to be a field engineer with no clear answer of why. so you have to the end of the day (day 2), to make your mind and answer me clearly, to which one do you want to apply. because if the answer is not clear enough, i will take you out of both of them. (he made his mind and switched to petro-technical as well)
And that how we became only 10, 3 petro-technical and 7 field engineers
