As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

A win is a win, right now the team must gain confidence back so this is an important win. United filled in Blind and Rojo at CB and kept a clean sheet. So it's either City is playing badly or the Carrick effect

Formula is very simple as long as you can win games, don't care who the manager and players are. old young cheap or expensive.

I almost forgot about you have Bastan from soton last season. He is a very good players with his formal team. I doubt he will do that bad until being drop and become unused sub? doh.gif

We have corps of soton players and they are doing well now.

I hope we can build a momentum. Carrick must play in the league. At least, give him a chance. We have tried so many midfield combination but none can be said successful. Herrera - carrick - pogba

Win over city is great, but I think we'll have problems with player selections come mid to end of the season. Players will be out of juice.

Pity mata though. He could have played on if not for the perception that he can't defend for nuts.

miki for sale ka? betul or not. just played one game in a red shirt. gg. either him or mata should be our 10. no one else can
*
If he's already for sale, then it must be something about his attitude or profile is making JM unhappy.

Uninformed guess: his work-rate on defensive aspects not good enough, or he isn't showing enough intensity.

Good profile in terms of goals and assists, makes sense since it's not like we have been blowing away teams with our goal rushes over the last 3 years.

Guessing we need to sort out our back-line and base of midfield first, once those are more solid then JM might be more adventurous about giving someone like him a chance.

When someone like Mkhitaryan also can't play, I doubt JM will give Pereira a chance.

That's why he should only play in league matches. He should be rested for other competition. Unless if we have 2-3 matches in a week, then have to rotate

Morgan defensively is okay. But ask him to play passes maybe can't do it as good as carrick

Win over city is great, but I think we'll have problems with player selections come mid to end of the season. Players will be out of juice.

Pity mata though. He could have played on if not for the perception that he can't defend for nuts.

maybe mourinho wanna keep mata for next game. and of course need someone taller to guard set pieces towards the end of the game smile.gif

This squad is just garbage.

This was City's B team and people are celebrating and praising performances when we won 1-0 at home with our a team.

If anything they should be ashamed they are the highest earning squad and can barely beat the Man City reserves.

Err....

Honestly aguero was never known as being pacey striker 😳

He has exceptional positioning when off the ball to strike in precision only...

A great fox poacher in a box...

U can even youtube all his previous video when playing in atlteico he was quite slow if u ask me

We are hardly full strength too. Blind and Rojo at CB is usually a disaster waiting to happen.

And city is not playing a B team as most people claimed. Apart from 1 or 2 youth, most of them are senior player. We also got youth playing in our team.

A win is never enough to satisfy some. Don't need to justify. The players wanted the win more than city. That was the main difference in the match

if miki dun start in burnley, something wrong with him d smile.gif

city doesn't really play a B team. by 70+ min, it's almost A team with aguero, sterling, kolarov coming in and they didn't create anything

VALENCIA TO HAVE OPERATION ON ARM INJURY

Antonio Valencia faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a fractured arm during the Manchester derby in midweek.

The right-back has been in outstanding form of late and his absence is a blow as he is to undergo an operation to fix the problem on Saturday. Matteo Darmian takes his place in the United side to face Burnley at Old Trafford with Jesse Lingard replacing Michael Carrick in the only other change to Wednesday's EFL Cup tie line-up.

"Antonio is having surgery today," said manager Jose Mourinho. "He has a fracture in his arm. With Michael Carrick, the decision was to play with only two midfield players and also thinking about the next match against Fenerbahce [on Thursday].

"The problem for us is having injuries all in the same area with [Eric] Bailly, [Chris] Smalling and Valencia. They were the three players that start almost every match in the Premier League and now we have lost all three in the same period.

"But that's football and it's an opportunity for others to play. We trust Darmian and we trust Marcos Rojo to have a positive influence."

why we always meet god mode keeper zzzz... zlatan miss a host of chances but to be fair, he got a point blank bicycle kick save by keeper.

it's been a long time I have seen 40+ attempts.. 20 corners in a match....entertaining but really frustrating cause cannot break..

of cos entertainment value far better than moyes 81 crosses

Unsure about Martial but he is saving Carrick for Fenerbahce in midweek:

dunno y ppl complain on mou selection. despite strange lineup, we do end up creating chances to seal the win. unfortunately chances unable convert to goal.

at least this match glue to my seat which chances after chances... compare to 1-2 attempts at goal during lvg era.

I am not a man utd fan but I find it ridiculous people are praising the goalkeeper Heaton when all the shots were fired directly at him. I think anybody can save shots fired directly at them. It was more man utd drop points bcs of bad finishing.

If it keeper God mode or just that our players sucks and keeps shooting directly at the keeper?

Against West Brom, we faced another God mode keeper but yet other teams can score so many goals consistently.

It's high time Zlatan gets dropped to the bench.

Yea, sounds about right on all 3 counts.

One of those days zzzz by the end I was concerned it would be one of those shit days where we can't break through and then they get 1 on the counter to make us vomit blood.

Luke Shaw's tackle was fantastic.

He basically doesn't want to overplay Carrick and risk injuring him. In any case, our midfield did okay in terms of controlling the game and making chances.. it was our finishing that let us down more than anything.

Heaton had a good game, but we also could have given him a harder time.

yes, actually the play was rather good with mata/pogba pulling the strings ... if only we have valencia then we can have more penetration

but i don't understand why sub out mata and replace with rooney, i think mata is getting quite close for a goal and rooney really below average ... can't keep the ball well vmad.gif

Mourinho is hopeless. We are hopeless. Ibra is rubbish. His crap finish has cost us at least 6 points this season. Rashford should have started at striker. We needed a goal and Mou decide to take off Mata and Rashford and brought in the three garbage of Rooney, Fellaini, and Memphis. Hopeless. Fergie save us.

We should not park the bus when we have a 90million pound player in the squad. Heck, that cost more than burnley whole first team. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Pogba, so far = flop
Mikhitaryan = not in team
Zlatan = worst form
Rooney = past his best
Carrick = old
Bastian & Morgan = frozen
Fellaini = played even he is not MU quality
Martial = second choice
Jesse = too inconsistent
Rashford = played out of position
Depay = flop

As a third of perhaps world football's most prolific attacking trio, Luis Suarez would be welcomed by any club in world football, but the Sun reports that Manchester United will look to make an audacious move for the Uruguayan.

The report says the Red Devils will throw £135 million at Barcelona in a bid to persuade them to cash in on the 29-year-old after three incredible, record-breaking years.

Zlatan is just going through some bad form and confidence issues. I'm sure the goals will come and then he will be god again.

Fans are hard to please, if put Rashford and Martial as striker and they did not scored then who to put? Rooney? Even Ronaldo go through bad form this season. Some say oh Ronaldo past his peak then yesterday scored a hat-trick and suddenly he's the world's best player again.
*
Why not rashford? He light up our season last season. He hv prove himself before playing as main striker. He is one of the most inteteresting young talent in today world football. Voted 2nd in european golden boy award. We hv option.. zlatan is the main man but he is a little bit off now. Give the boy chance and the goals will come too.

Even aguero got rested before.. zlatan should be too

Don't blame the referee.
Don't blame the finishing.
Yes you heard me.
The chances we create are all half chances, or good chances.
We never create monster chances where we are alone with the keeper or two vs one against a defender or see a situation where someone can just tap it into an empty goal.
The midfield we have is just terrible.
It just goes too slowly, the passing and creativity is too predictable and too slow.
Once again we were good defensively, De Gea was on holiday.
You can say we were unlucky not to score yes, i agree with that in this particular match.
Lingard is the worst player i have ever seen in a Man Utd shirt. Get him off that pitch and ship him off to Bristol City.
He is not good at anything and he is keeping Martial/Mkhitaryan/Memphis on the bench or not even the bench? What the hell is going on?!
We need more pace in the passing and more creativity and flair.
This team is just disgusting to watch.

Away from home, start a midfield of Morgan/Carrick + Herrera + Pogba with forward line of Martial Rashfrod Mata/Mkhi

At home, start a midfield of Herrera + Pogba with forward line of Martial Mata Mkhi Rashford.

As much as I want to see Depay given a chance, he has done crap in the short time he played. A loan to a PL club would do great for his confidence.

At this point, it seems like we are stagnant. 3 managers and yet nothing has change. From the inexperience moyes to title winning managers of lvg and Jose. Worst, we spent like nobody business but still lingering in midtable. How long can we stands this until we collapse like Liverpool. The future doesn't look promising.

Having said all this, Jose normally got things right in the second season. I hope that is still the case

When a team sits so deep, you have to break them down or Pull back and force them to come out. There were a few potential tap ins or easy shots, but we just couldn't score. Thats on bad finishing. I think you've mistaken united for barca if you're looking for a no holds barred pacy attacks and runs.

Players must have done something good at training to warrant a pick in the starting lineup and those who don't must have not done something right.

Seriously, his treatment towards bastian disgust me. I really don't understand what has bastian done to Jose to deserve that kind of treatment

We should start acting like Liverpool, instead of blaming our own team, blame everyone else. Less tension between fans.

Always the victim, never their fault.

Remember, form is temporary, class is permanent. Why bring ourselves to liverpool's level? After all, most players in liverpool's team are there just as a dress rehearsal to "dream move" to Barca, RM without winning anything with them yet.

i think this team badly need him to stabilize the midfield. play him 60-70 min i think he can cope. he doesnt need to run much what this team need is his pass, link up play and composure

EL and league cup is less important play scneiderlin, fellaini, bastian

moyes style of play with united was cross cross cross .. so damn boring ...

came LVG ... his filosopi is pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass ..

Mou came and the way we play was like before .. attack attack attack .. can't score but often give goals to opponents .. mou style of play give me better entertainment tho some matches still bored .. but improve from previous 2 managers ... hopefully we will get over it .. soon .. smile.gif ..

He was in the reserves for far too long and needed a step up. United first team needed bigger personalities and Warren, even with the good job that he did, just didn't have it.

haha... our players need more time to adjust... been playing cross cross cross and pass pass pass tactic too long... now need to get use to attack attack attack.

Our defends were never good in the first place. Last time under DM and LvG, they are being shield by all players... now they are totally expose.

Could've gone for Klopp but board stuck to LvG when Klopp was free. We're becoming a mix of Arsenal and Liverpool-Fergie era.

i think mourinho need time to rebuild the team
plus need few transfer window to change the player

sorry to say this
but i think mourinho not really favour def player that short in height n aggressive

u cant feel any aggressive in blind/rojo/shaw/darmian......
he prefer someone like bailly

in midfield,he prefer some quick passing player n high stamina
but current team look like easily exhausted toward the final 20-30min....

as for forward,he prefer someone tall n bulky to keep the ball n challenge high ball
ibrahim abit old d.... too slow to go in attacking zone once he come out penalty box take ball...
plus our crosses really hard to see in eyes....sometime cant imagine those crosses come from man utd player....

he need time but i dont think he will be given time if he cant get at least 4th place this season.....

Jose is losing it or totally lost it already. He's so tactically inept.
Starting 11 already have to accommodate a lost of form striker in Rooney and after Pogba goes off, he brings on another in Zlatan when he should have chosen between Mata or Mkhi so to consolidate control of midfield.

When chasing a game, he choose to take off Rashford who is able to provide width and pace and clinical finishing if given a chance.

Commentators had some nice discussion during the game.

One of it was how during SAF era, he's always changing tactics with his every squad.

He doesn't use the same tactics for each squad he build. He'll do some variation to suit each players strength and weakness.

Maybe JM has really lost his mojo afterall...

Haha Jomo biggest mistake is to make Sir Alex look bad by breaking transfer record to buy Pogba back.

Don't get me wrong this guy is a good player, but definitely not worth his price and he is not in the same class as Ronaldo or Messi where he can be a game changer or score more then 20 goals per season.

To be honest our squad quality is even worse than Pep/Conte's squad when they 1st took over. Let's face it. Their squad had been challenging for title in the past 3 years, while we were fighting for four spot?

The team is too poor and imbalance when Mourinho took over. Lack of any good player in each department. At least now we look to be attacking again.
I think Mourinho needs a few round of cleanup to bring the team quality up again.

Now we still have many deadwood players and those with mentality only playing for a mid table spot. They have never won EPL before, I even doubt they have the desire to win it. They better be gone.

last season Liverpool were poor too after Klopp takeover, after few months only can adapt to the coach mentality.

Jomo only here for 3 months. 100m beli Pogback but Pogback yet to give 100m performance, if Pogback can play like Lampard/Gerrard then all pancut liao..
*
1st of all no offence for replying in here. When klopp in charge of liverpool, we know he will do a new system there. During his time last season we got up and down also. When he did not buy any player during the winter transfer window, i did frustrated a bit. Only this new season he started to buy players. And after see mourinho sign so many big money players with now not so good result i realised that what klopp did last season maybe make sense. He built up the system 1st then only look for players. By doing this fans may not too desperate for result and have more patience. For me i think mou choose the rush way. He sign players with big money b4 his system is ready for MU. Not to say this is a bad idea but with so many money invested on it, will the fans and the board have enough patience for it. What i can see is he himself is desperate for result already by throwing first team players to every single match. Maybe kena pressure d. But by giving time sure u all will see result d. Fast maybe 2nd half of the season result will come or late 1 mayb next season. Most importantly is does he have the time from fans or the board?

Other team already replaced Gerrard / Lampard / or even Yaya Toure... then when you see our fans still crying for Carrick to start the match so he can provide better pass you already know the problem.

Luckily Mourinho dares to drop Rooney, if not you can see we still playing like LVG style up front.

Just buy better and natural winger/ RB / CB / DM , our players are currently playing out of position on these areas.

Jomo only here for 3 months. 100m beli Pogback but Pogback yet to give 100m performance, if Pogback can play like Lampard/Gerrard then all pancut liao..

Well, you trying to defend Jose but all your argument back pointing to Jose and Jose alone.

*
I think the pressure handling Liverpool is less compare to Man Utd. Not saying Liverpool is a smaller club vice versa but we had so much success under SAF and it's only been what 4-5 seasons without the league titles? I think us fans still struggling coping with that compare to Liverpool which probably have less expectation. Give 5-6 seasons and we probably lower our expectations lol

Trying to copy conte?

Their wingback stamina so fit and power attack mode become winger, defend mode become fullback...

Need to have a very high stamina and can also defend and attack ability quite good and balance....

Very hard to pull off 😳

My view of Rooney is all over the place right now...he fucked up 9 passes in a row..gets an assist..then a minute later breaks into the box and hits a shot at the corner flag

So many snap reactions to Rooney. People saying he's been trash, people saying he's been brilliant. He's been neither, he's been key in all of the goals but he's also given up possession several times very weakly. Overall a good performance thus far.
