Shin Chan = Comic House
Doraemon = Tora Aman

Shin Chan oso didn't finish. The author passed away liao. But Comic House manage to translate and release the final volume 5 years ago. Last one is volume 48, if I'm not mistaken...

A few major reasons that the company winded up:
1. Not enough manga.
2. In Sarawak most of their products have been unavailable since 2000-2002.
3. Not enough publicity/ PR tak der langsung.

The comic house translation is the best before they send to dbp. Direct translate from jpn to bm, with ayat tunggang terbalik make it funny.

They were also hampered by licensing issues and censorship.

'Oh! Dewi' (Oh My Goddess, ああっ女神さま)was one of my favorite Malay translated mangas, but it stopped distribution after vol.14 because some turbanheads got butthurt and claimed it to hurt Muslims' sensitivities. That one really pissed me off, as i continued to read it online and my akidah hasnt deviated yet as those turbanhead claim i would be.

They are the one who screwed with my dragon ball comic collection. Suddenly change from the thinner comic to the thicker one.

Buhgger, the picture on the spline suppose to join one leh. Changing from 45 books to 43 books caused me to buy hong kong imports which are triple the price of the normal ones. Luckily it was just the last few books before they came in la.

Dewi' (Oh My Goddess, ああっ女神さま)was one of my favorite Malay translated mangas, but it stopped distribution after vol.14 because some turbanheads got butthurt and claimed it to hurt Muslims' sensitivities. That one really pissed me off, as i continued to read it online and my akidah hasnt deviated yet as those turbanhead claim i would be.

sold it off together with the rest.

the art was always great, particularly the detailed drawings of mechanical stuff (cars, bikes etc.)

and thanks to the Japanese-katakana translation, i learned how to pronounce Oschersleben (Oscar leven), Vincent (Van Sant) and many old classic car/bike names.

fujishima drew this:

(the aforementioned BMW Oschersleben sidecar bike)

the result:

and also this matchless:

did they even stopped 3x3 eyes?

that one was even more blasphemous and/or full of pagan references etc...

i cried manly tears when the online translation finished a few years ago.

last time thought it was so ecchi/hamsap
but turn out to be so light

such a nice afternoon read
reminds me of ARIA/Amanchu

can't believe i enjoyed it so much when the plot hardly moved at all sweat.gif sweat.gif

but i feel better than todays manga, where there is like panty shot every 5 page doh.gif

Fujishima was an Engineering student, so he incorporated his skills in technical drawing along with slipping college physics into explaining how magic works in the manga.

Why do you guys sold them off though? You thought Malay translated mangas will always exist? lol

I foresaw the fall since 2005 when i noticed kids roaming the net to find the lastest Naruto and Bleach mangas.

Now that these are about to turn into relics of my childhood/teenhood, i will always hold on to my Psychometrer Eiji, GTO and Oh Dewi mangas. Unless the price is right of course. laugh.gif (eg. 5-6 times original price).

Except Doraemon. Tora Aman reprint and reshuffles the chapters every now and then, so they are always available.

Are there still any Malay artists in Gempak's lineup. I abandoned Gempak's publications almost a decade ago due to rumors about racism against Malay artists.

As for the artists being arrogant, maybe not. Maybe they are just anti-social loner type. Most artists are misunderstood geniuses. /sangkabaik

You are joking, right?

I always wanted to see manga styled comics that depicts our own social lives. Instead, what we get in Gempak are watered down imitations of the Japanese settings, with authors shamelessly naming the characters in Japanese and mimicking typical Japanese school life. If i want a Japanese setting, i would read Japanese manga.

Some attempts to relate more to Malaysian kids' life did pass, but the artists that managed to do this often disappear after 3-4 mags. I suspect that something wrong happened between them and Gempak's editor, which i know had some dirt on his own.

Ujang used to have a few manga-styled artists, but they often got stamped out by Gayour,,who claim that the style is 'not Malaysian' Ironic since Ujang's and Gila-Gila's styles were heavily influenced by the US-made MAD magazines. Then again, these morons didnt learn history.

For me, art styles are nice, but its the CONTENT that matter. I always wanted a manga that I can relate with as a secondary school student IN MALAYSIA, not some foreign setting like Japan, from our own manga style artists, but people think of me as weird.

In my opinion, manga style artists can sell more books if their storyline and settings are more relatable to the Malaysian crowd.

Of course, i tried doing it myself, but i lacked the skill so i could never make it happen.

kebodohan apakah ini??...

How old are you??.... brainwash by heundal wave?..

The right thing is:
Manga = Japan comic
Manhwa = Korean comic
and Manhua = Chinese comic produced in mainland china, Hong kong and taiwan[SIZE=7]

Nobody care about Manwha since ppl only interested with k-pop things..

"Manhua" word has been used since 18th century for chinese literati painting and even the word of "MANGA" is actually refer to manhua when japanese bring back the comics to japan together with kung fu (later change to karate)..

Damn ironic, aint it?

That fucker became lead editor at Ujang for a while. He chased away many young artists with styles foreign to him, while those that he did gave a chance never stayed more than 2-3 releases(im guessing because he harrassed them by forcing them to redo the artworks in the way that makes sense for his own narrow tastes).

Aie manged to make Blues Untuk Aku get printed because he appealed directly to Md Othman Yassin, their big boss at the time. Lo and behold, BUA became a legendary series.

She was chronically obsessed about Supernatural, her deviantart page were filled with artworks and GIFs of the series. Perhaps the copycat thing... its just a case of imitation as flattery.

Agreed

I read mana online now

But I still hate the need to zoom to look into the details

With physical paper. U can just bring it closer to ur eyes

When it's digital

Need to zoom in. Then other stuff went out of frame

The to zoom out. Zoom in again

Its really annoying

Reagardles how tech has advance

Physical book. Especially with drawings, are still the best

For the past 10 years

Kaoru's work gotten better, it's more stylized and may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's consistent - which is what you want as a good artist, uniform lines and shapes.

Zint's work aduiyai doidogok gaman, it's your 9-5 job isn't it? Why all cincai?
Where is the old Zint? Are you only reserving the best of you for your personal projects?

Keith's lawak kampus is very moe now, almost too much.
Relies too much on 'inside jokes', Xena chasing Vaness, Froggy sees ghost etc as a gimmick.
Jokes geting too over the top.

C2V is back, great usual stylized art.
Good content, good jokes.
Nothing over the top, pretty 'lowkey' lol.

Not sure if xanseviera is official in house artist, 10yrs ago she mcm regular freelancer.
No improvement, so i guess that's a downside?
She's clearly a female otaku. You know...

A couple or so new artists, so can't count them in, everybody's got to start somewhere, good or bad.

Puyuh still GOAT, like one of the few old members still drawing for Gempak.

Slaium is chief editor or art director something IINM, oversees all manuscripts sent to Gempak, works mostly behind the desk, haven't seen his works in Gempak anymore.

Regulars from Fakhroul Anour, Nizam Bachok etc still with their own great personalized style, Nizam with his HK/Murican comic style.

Remember King Kong? Was it on Utopia?
Teenager with psychic powers, naik scooter.
He was on Komik Remaja briefly, with his own let's learn to draw series...stolen from Loomis lolol.
Now I realized mostof his panelswere plagiarized somehow.

Ben no improvement langsung, still with his symbol drawing, dat mouth, dat eyes, copy pasta since day1, every character has the same face.

Puppeteer is edgy as always, even edgier now that he's actually gotten better, but still style over substance mia.

Apoh is Zuan, style very linear and clean nowadays, perhaps coz everything is digital today.
His drawing strokes and lines traditionally was great, during his Mat Gempak run.
He's working on the more kiddie stuff I think, one of the educational adventure comic.

My favorite Gempak comic series growing up was Kutu's Red Head, very stylized, very Murican, reminds me of Hellboy (one time Gempak was crazy with Hellboy)....and it was from Tan Eng Huat...DC artist lol

Kenny dunno go where dy, mcm into toys and design now. Style similar to C2V.

Who am I missing?

Most of it was just pointless DeviantArt drama. Admittedly, i was kinda... 'loud' and 'aggressive on my opinions about how local Jap style artists should make their content so a lot of them didnt take it very well. I also sucked much more at drawing back then, so they took me even more lightly.

At the time, many Jap style local cartoonists, even when they make original comics, i saw all of them as little more than masturbatory works about their own fantasies with Japan. Their artworks arent just Japanese by art style, but also tried to be so with their subject, storytelling and setting. But since they are not Japanese, they felt like hollow imitations of their favorite works. As a Malaysian, i could not relate with ANY of their works even though a good amount of them are Malay Muslims like me.

I was very vocal against it, they thought "who the fuck is this guy?", got annoyed with my aggressiveness and eventually ignored me. For them, they just want to draw what they like. End of story. They do have every right to, but i was too harsh when talking about it.

I still stand by the opinion that our local artists wont gain any notable attention until they start drawing subjects that are more familiar with their own lives instead of what they saw and fantasize from their favorite Japanese works, but no one will give a fuck because I lack the skill to have any sort of credentials on the matter.

This is why i am even more resentful of Ujang's editorial staff, for preventing Jap style artworks from becoming mainstream enough to produce stories relatable to average Malaysians(Malays especially) instead of all this high fantasy stuff or Japanese anime school settings.

Oh shit, not Nizam Bachok... It was Taufan!

Both great, great lines etc.

Taufan is the guy.. Very reminiscent to the old HK comics.

IINM early in Gempak got a whole series of Hikayat something2 with Silat instead of Wuxia. With all the Pencak and Jurus and Petala lol Heckline's favorite.

Fuh. That layan wo

jamilselamat

there was this one Apo / Ujang artist, back in 2000-2003

very melayu content, but artsyle very moe

mata besar, etc

tetek dan bontot pun besar, very stylized, very moe, very sexualized

my peepee feels good looking at his drawing

I vaguely remember the style, but i cant remember the artist anymore.

Been 16 fucking years ago. No way i can remember that far. And unfortunately, my father sold all of my prized Bumper Raya editions of Ujang to suratkhabarlama. sad.gif

They were also hampered by licensing issues and censorship.

'Oh! Dewi' (Oh My Goddess, ああっ女神さま)was one of my favorite Malay translated mangas, but it stopped distribution after vol.14 because some turbanheads got butthurt and claimed it to hurt Muslims' sensitivities. That one really pissed me off, as i continued to read it online and my akidah hasnt deviated yet as those turbanhead claim i would be.

eh bro, oh dewi ada sampai vol. 20++ la, the other day I passed by one of those suncomics outlet and peeked at their malay manga bookrack.

starting with vol. 15, they changed the spine colour from red to blue.

and last vol. was released around 2010.
