Instead of plugging the default earphones into the controller, you can plug in desktop speakers into it (that's if the slim and the fat PSP's earphones are of the same mechanism).

Yup. Unless you have some accessories which can replace the controller's job (not sure of its existence) and act as a converter..

Er.. Battery-wise, I don't know much.. Sorry..

Erm, the 3.5mm jack is the one used by desktop speakers.. On the other hand, you have another jack which is 2.5mm (which is obviously smaller) used by mobile phone earphones..
