Ya, it's kinda surprising that a Telco as big as maxis was slow to get out of the block with this and even when it is out the implementation and adoption seems slow.

You can't preorder if you're on an existing contract, but what you can do is you can walk in to a maxis centre after the launch and if the centre has stocks of the model you want, you can terminate your existing contract and sign a new one for the new phone. Depending on how many days you have left on your existing contract you may need to pay a penalty or maxis may waive the penalty on a case to case basis. When I terminated my iPhone 8 Plus contract to sign up for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, there were 30 days or less of my contract remaining but they waived the penalty for me.

Coz some people are already stuck on maxis due to poor coverage from other telcos in their area - I'm one of them. So, since I definitely have to use maxis and can buy a phone on subsidy from them by signing a contract, why not? And yes, buying a phone from them on contract saves you quite a bit from the phone's RRP.

You'll only see substantial savings if you choose normal contract, or if you don't want to own the phone and just want to lease it you can probably take Z360.

Yeah, it's a one time fee. I asked customer service before, apparently it varies according to the device you want to upgrade to and when you are upgrading so they can't provide a fixed answer.
