today i go 3 places.to try satay.

thanks to few ktards suggestion from the menj thread

heres the review (+ 1 from my usual place that i go)

-mostly priced at 80~90 cent for ciken & beef. rm1.10 for kambing
-no review on kuah cuz i didnt makan kuah.only eat satay on it own



1)pj seksyen 14: 4/5 ( the one i will invite people to go)

LOCATION: near digital mall. tepi ada fourt court.tingkat bawah

OPEN: from lunch time till 9pm

2)kuchai lama: 4/5 (my personal favourite.it has the texture that i prefer)

REVIEW:

Ayam out. Cuz liat

Mostly. This is the wet not so Hangit style
Like williey or queen at maluri
There pieces of serai and all

But! The marinate isn't strong
The spices are light
There isn't much Hangit burnt bit
Probably cook for short while
This satay is for those who want simple no frills natural tasting satay

Daging is ok. Not tender like pj14. But not liat like queen

Ikan is.. Nice. I donno what ikan they use. But Macam dori fillet
And its spicy. More than othets. Maybe to cover bau hanyir

Kambing just simply amazing
U can see the thin strip of lamb
Simply excellent
And it has what Kuchai lama dont: lamb taste
The lamb taste is strong here. Maybe cuz it's fresh

The kuah is spicy. While kinda watery. The Kacang is in big pieces. Not ground too finely

I am tempted to give this a 5/5
Simpyl cuz the brilliant lamb
And even if it's even surprisingly good. It isn't snappy either
Lets say that 5/5 cuz it ticks all the good box

But then my wife ask me:"why u like the lamb"

I said :"it taste.. Of lamb. Like my lamb steak I always do. No overseasoned or oversweetened bullshit. Like kuchai lama"

Then I realise. That's the problem

It is a GOOD charcoal grill lamb?
The answer is yes
Taste wise. It is flawless
Epic

But is it a GOOD satay kambing?
I don't think so

The flavor too light. The spices isn't strong.
Satay shud be meat on sticks, marinated with spices and grilled with charcoal to perfection (read: sedikit hangit lol)

Hence. I minus 1 point

Dont get me wrong. It still good
Those that like lightly seasoned satay with no smokey Hangit stuff
U people would love this

Funny how I complain kuchai too lacking in term of " lamb taste"

While this one, it has only" lamb taste" and nothing more

A combination of both would be perfect lol

SATAY ZAINAH ISMAIL

LOCATION: can straight waze "satay zainah ismail" . its near keramat

SATAY: Ayam, Daging, Perut, & Hati

PRICE: all rm1.30 lol

REVIEW:

-ayam biasa.almost bland and liat

-perut kitab.nice.usually they use perut tembusu which can be busuk if not clean properly.

but perut kitab is the bestest.and they done it well.

-hati is ok la.a smoke burnt hati. nothing much here. unique,but tak la sedap gila

-the daging is excellent.its big and chunky,so abit liat

but the marinate,which is kinda sweet, envelope it,glaze it nicely
with some burnt bits, its really nice.
great texture,with sweet addictive taste

- I want to cut 2 marks apart from daging,other are boring. and the texture quite liat
but the perut save it.so up 1 marks

become 4/5

SATAY KAMBING MENGGODA SELERA

LOCATION: can straight waze "satay kambing menggoda selera" . its at meru

SATAY: kambing only

PRICE: rm0.70 WOOOW

-the kambing.its big and chunky,they cut it in cube

if eat on its own, its very liat, (Cuz cut into cube instead of lean strip of meat)
very tasteless.probably no marinade at all

this is like daging bakar.barbeque.its just impossible to eat on its own. plus with so much burnt and hangit,its unbearable

hence why they drown it in kuah.the kuah is like mix of kicap and chili .so sweet and spicy
yes,with kuah its quite good.i must admit

but still, a sate,that cannot be eaten on its own, and very dependent on the kuah is just plain wrong
shouldnt be like that

so im quite disappointed

- I cut 2 marks cuz its liat and tasteless. would cut alot more,but i have to admit,when its drowned in kuah. its quite gooding.so that kinda save it

ps: i order telur penyet.basically nasi,telur dadar with the sambal they serve with ayam penyet ( ayam habis lol)


MY GOODD SERIOUS SEDAP GILER

the sambal is spicy,but also sweet.not from sugar,but from the caramalized onion
its so sedap,very asian but at the same time macam ada european influence

its very epic

i definitely come again,but not for sate.but the this nasi penyet

so anyway,still glad that i came here lol

REVIEW:

-ayam ok.better than average.daging also same

-kambing. now.its very good.the small portion remind me of Kuchai Lama.
but it isnt dry.its more..wet,and moist.theres bits of serai
it also isnt as sweet as Kuchai

it also isnt full on strong natural taste of lamb like Restaurant Malaysia Kajang

but its a combination of both

its full on marinade,but still have that distinctive lamb taste
its sweet,but isnt overdone until cover up the lamb taste

its the best of both world.

i give 4/5 to kuchai cuz it lack the lamb taste.
now this place have the lovely sweet marinade but also the lamb taste

it have what Kuchai lack

so i have to concede, its only fair and logical, to give this place the full mark 5/5


let me be clear. the full mark doesnt mean its the perfect satay

it still dont have the epic tenderness of pj14.

no.it isnt about being perfect

the full mark means this place have no obvious and apparent flaw
it scored well all across the board
without having any glaring disappointment

so.thanks to that ktard that suggest this place. really appreciate it brah

probably its frozen kambing meat

for example; the beef at pj14 is tender, and full of beef flavor

while kuchai kambing,also sedap, and very sweet, but lack the distinguish specific kambing flavor

oh kambing yesh, tasted some good ones around pj but its on/off. Kejap ada kejap takda jual.

last2 makan kambing mandy or nasi bukhara kambing. haha.

I haven't been to Queens since they building MRT there but I think they are only satay that still have ketupat.
Meat chewy sometimes it's like that. Unlike chicken, the texture not constant.

amon_meiz ahah! that's cause that pakcik and his son marinades in the morning so you could still taste the meat. they were one of the dishes my friend had at her open house a few rayas back (you legit gotta book him way before raya lol) and he just comes in with like a few huge slabs of meat and starts prepping there and then, 5~7hrs before the open house at 4pm

ahurgan nasi bukhara at the mamak in len seng not bad, but they're better known for their nasi kandar, tried?

amon...you should try restoran malaysia @ kajang.

it's basically from sri aman's girl's school (having had just taken that exit from the roundabout) and straight uphill. you'll see a small mamak stall on the left as that hill climb meets a cross junction. me and well my batch calls it hard rock nasi kandar, never really remembered their actual name lol

they sell the usual roti and nasi lemak in the morning but 11 they start with their nasi kandar and *occasionally* bukhara

yeah it's normal to see him and his son coming in the morning and prepping there and then and starting business at noon. sometimes people would drop by asking for 500 sticks and the pakcik would write down the details as the son pops open their cooler and take out a huge slab of meat to start prepping. they had perut too last time.. those i brought and had it said it's the best they've had too but me personally ewwww perut lol

the satay damn juicy + their kuah is super good. but it's kinda pricey. i think 80 or 90 cents now. probably cuz they know their satay very good.

yass i usually steer clear of chains but theirs is good lol. there was this restaurant in state (new town pj) last time called bismi. their nasi briyani and bukhara was the best i swear but got stiff competition from chains and closed years ago :(
