so i get u, wanna overclock to gain performance from acceptable i5k budget. not competition. ok that good.
given the fact that things will heat up u need to spend some cooling accessory as well. fan or water is up to ur noise acceptance.
what specs in ur mind now and target speed?

QUOTE(zenho @ Oct 12 2016, 10:45 AM) How risky is OC-ing by myself? If its very low risk of permanently destroying any hardware, I might give it a go. There's supposed to be an auto-shutdown on the CPU right? How about the GPU? Otherwise, sounds like IdealTech is the only guys who can do it for me. So that's still an option. hyper 212 not enough. i tell u the risk from my past oc. cpu broken. zero ram broken. at least 30-40 pcs mobo broken. 6pcs psu broken. 3pcs graphic. 3pcs heatsink. zero fan. 2pcs

QUOTE(zenho @ Oct 12 2016, 11:23 AM) Haha, let me check first how many GPUs I need to burn in order to learn. if 212x not enough, what do you suggest? i will aim more copper heat pipe, like silver stone archon ar03 2yrs back i think. it just sufficient for 5ghz stable sandy bridge after install two 120mm 200cfm server fan @4000rpm open air. gpu buy the highest model u can afford. can choose other brand not gigabyte. i suggest msi gtx1070 can handle full hd game well. 4k a bit difficult.

QUOTE(zenho @ Oct 12 2016, 05:10 PM) Just looking at 4.5ghz maybe. Isn't 5ghz a little ambitious? Especially for first-timer Would a Cyrorig R1 Ultimate work? gtx1080 is RM1k to RM1.5 more expensive (more than 50% increase) from gtx1070 not sure if its worth the performance boost? its a hefty extra sum for me. well. the lucky one will found good grade cpu bin, easy oc. otherwise, heat and power will restrict you.
