Beware of the sim lock issue, instead of the warranty issue.

We used to change phone not because of the faulty, but the new series phone in the market. However, the update of iOS will cause the sim lock if you were to purchase oversea set.

Think twice.

p/s: please correct me if I were wrong.

can further clarify the bold part? what causes sim lock?  if thats true that no one will buy oversea set.

Regarding the bold statement, as far as i know, oversea set like US UK and so on are locked with their respective country simcard. Therefore, any reset/restore/update of phone might require the local simcard to unlock the phone.

For example, if you purchase UK set, you need UK simcard to unlock the phone once before you can insert Malaysia simcard.

i am not sure if oversea has started selling unlocked set which does not require any local simcard, if yes you may purchase since there is no software restriction.

They have already been selling unlocked set since long ago.

As long as it is not carrier tied, the phone is free to use with any sim the purchaser wants.

Logically, if Apple were to lock the phone if you put a foreign sim, then you would hear ppl complaining about that in forums when they travel to oversea and uses their local sim card.

Thanks for the update.

But why i am trying to express on sim locked issue is when the set first start operation (restore/update/reset), it requires local simcard. afterwards, it does not require anymore.

Anyway, how to detect if that phone is tied with oversea telco plan?

Thank
