No. But you can always call to Apple Support Centre To make a repair/warranty claim request with reasons like you purchase one when you were studying/working there and now back for good or whatever stories you can make up for it. Then they will contact local authorized service centre and give permission for that. Claimed once with Malaysia Set in Hong Kong Apple Store, and Hong Kong set in Malaysia Authorized Service Centre.

Of course sometimes it depends on luck, too. Or bring it to nearest countries' Apple Store to make the claim. Nearest now is Hong Kong or Singapore by end of the year.

i don't think so. if us set then the warranty need to be claimed from apple us.
only malaysian set can claim from apple malaysia.
like my friend previously bought his iphone 6 from australia then when he wants to claim for warranty he needed to sent it to apple australia because apple malaysia said they didn't cover overseas set iphone

I managed to claim my Singapore set iPhone in Malaysia Service Centres like Mac City.

Is the US set a bit different than the Singapore sets? If they are not, then there should not be any issues with claiming, right?

Is basically a simple matter of warranty policy and has nothing to do with the phone
Spore set can be claimed at Malaysia as there is an agreement between them and Spore will handle all issues that Msian centers are unable to solve. All spare in Malaysia are imported in through Spore too

Usually the first batch from Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, US etc sure got problem such like battery discharging problem. That's why we need to wait for Malaysia set.

APPLE has international warranty but not in MALAYSIA because there is no APPLE store here.... it is going thru authorized dealer/reseller... not sure is MACHINES or EPIC something .... so the warranty is claimable from those authorized dealer only.. and they are not APPLE, so the warranty is not same.

APPLE is 1 exchange 1 in US, but in malaysia, you send back to autho-dealer, you wait for next week.. they solve your issue, for e.g. change screen, battery...blablabla.... so it is not 1 to 1 exchange on the spot...

so i think if you buy from US, you can claim from APPLE SG ... coz SG has Apple store....

of coz.... i not sure coz i nv buy any Apple from US or SG or any other places except MY ... i might be wrong.

i talked to apple and they confirm it;s covered in Malaysia as long as the iPhone you send in for repair is available / launch in Malaysia.

As for the Apple Care +, Malaysia is not inclusive. If you had bought Apple Care +, you need to send to Singapore for repair claim.

Beware of the sim lock issue, instead of the warranty issue.

We used to change phone not because of the faulty, but the new series phone in the market. However, the update of iOS will cause the sim lock if you were to purchase oversea set.

Think twice.

p/s: please correct me if I were wrong.

Regarding the bold statement, as far as i know, oversea set like US UK and so on are locked with their respective country simcard. Therefore, any reset/restore/update of phone might require the local simcard to unlock the phone.

For example, if you purchase UK set, you need UK simcard to unlock the phone once before you can insert Malaysia simcard.

i am not sure if oversea has started selling unlocked set which does not require any local simcard, if yes you may purchase since there is no software restriction.

They have already been selling unlocked set since long ago.

As long as it is not carrier tied, the phone is free to use with any sim the purchaser wants.

Logically, if Apple were to lock the phone if you put a foreign sim, then you would hear ppl complaining about that in forums when they travel to oversea and uses their local sim card.

Thanks for the update.

But why i am trying to express on sim locked issue is when the set first start operation (restore/update/reset), it requires local simcard. afterwards, it does not require anymore.

Anyway, how to detect if that phone is tied with oversea telco plan?

Thank
