Agreed. When I applied for credit cards, some banks insist on EPF. So I blanked out the total, and they're not happy with it. Had to go through some extra steps to get it through. Some like Standard Chartered are better - they send people over with the device that prints out only your monthly contribution.

RHB did, but took very long to get through. Ambank did not because it's deemed modified, so I had to reach to some people at a higher level to seek clarification, and they agreed that the total is not relevant. it was subsequently approved (I look at it this way - people processing them applications are at their best behavior when someone high above is watching).

Conclusion is, banks don't need/want to know what you have in your EPF. But they want to know your current contribution to match against your payslip or to estimate your salary. You can probably ask if they have that little mobile device that reads your IC to print out your current year's contribution.
