i think they did calculation on the cash back u have taken from them yearly and see whether it exceed the AF or not. For e.g. if you are using exactly RM1760/month and get RM88 cash back/month, total will be RM1760*12=RM21,120, this is not qualify for their RM30k/year therefore they will charge u AF cos u have earned RM1760 over RM550. However, if you don't even get the cashback for RM550 over 12 months, which in this case will be RM45.83 cash back/month or expenses RM916.67/month or RM11k/year, they don't even bother to charge u AF as u didn't take the advantage to get back the cashback to repay the AF. That's y the first year i don't even spend more than RM10k for this card and they just don't charge the 2nd year AF. I will wait and c what happen for the 3rd year. If this continue if i spend less than RM11k, then this will support my statement.

Do you have other maybank credit card, says Maybank 2 card before the VS?
If I am not mistaken, when apply for additional card, Maybank will tally the anniversary date of the card with your other Maybank card. For my case, I got my VS card in Dec 2015, and Maybank issue the card follow my other card anniversary date, which is July, and as July 2016 is only 7 months, they will not charge for any annual fee. But they will do so in July 2017. I believe that is the reason why some forumers have not been charged for the 1st year.
Nevertheless, this card is really good, feel sad that I only hit the rm30k spend, but my card is old card in 2015, so will require rm50k to get the AF waiver. Might need to cancel the card in July.

Nope, VS is my first Maybank CC but I have savings account for more than 30 years I think, then before the anniversary date approaching, I start to apply ikhwan and 2 cards.

I see, then let's see if Maybank able to waive for you in the 2nd year then.

I have cancelled my MBB VS back in June when they charge the AF and unable to be waived. Planning to reapply for the card as its kinda troublesome at the moment for my spending on petrol (amex on weekend). Anyone know how long is the cooling off period before I can reapply?

So you just cancelled without paying the AF?

Yes. Providing you dont continue to use the card after the AF is charged. Inform MBB CS i want to cancel the card and they transfer the balance and reward points to my other card and reverse the AF.

How did your AF being charged? In unbilled transaction first or straight in statement?

In unbilled transaction, once i noticed it in my m2u, I called and cancel. It will be charge on the month before anniversary. My card anniversary is Jul, but i noticed the AF charged at End June.

1 thing i have to praised about MBB is how gentleman they are. As I was still using the card up to the day i noticed the AF was charged, I though I will be losing the cash rebate for transaction I did in the last billing cycle when I cancel the card. But they still payout the cash rebate based on all the eligible transaction during my card cancellation. Really appreciate that.
Unlike what I have experienced with Hong Leong, which the cash rebate credit is late by 1 billing cycle and they will just rip you off if you not aware.
