I applied for the FC Barcelona VISA Signature credit card at The Gardens yesterday afternoon. Received an SMS that my application has been approved around 2pm today. Then I received a call from Maybankard Centre The Gardens to collect my credit card after 6pm. So basically it took just 1 working day to get everything done. Overall quite efficient. But as the credit card was approved just today, I am still unable to activate the credit card. I was told I can only activate the credit card and to set the PIN for this credit card tomorrow.

Paying house assessment for one year at one-go at the counter will get a certain percentage of rebate. Doesn’t that trump all the rebate given by credit card ?

House assessment bill in Peninsular Malaysia states the rebated amount for one-year payment on the bill already ? Because the house assessment bill in East Malaysia doesn’t. The rebate for advance payment is supposed to be x% but for some reason, there is a slight off in the rebate percentage given every year. So I can only know the exact discounted amount to pay if I pay at the counter.

Not really. We had applied for Maybank credit card recently at a Maybank branch and the new credit card was sent to our correspondence address as instructed.

Got it in less than a week. It was for additional credit card though. Applied at The Gardens. Correspondence address is in Kota Kinabalu.

Since the call centre said it’s been sent to branch, then I suppose you will need to go to that branch to check. By the way, phone’s engaged or ? Since today is Saturday, try to call again on Monday ?

If the card is sent to your billing address, the call centre should be able to retrieve the Poslaju tracking code from their system.

2% is better than almost all VISA and MasterCard in Malaysia, almost. Maybank Singapore is giving unlimited 1.6% cash back for this card issued by Maybank Singapore for all spending in Singapore whereas ours come with either 2.5k or 1k maximum spending with cash back depending on which month it is. I’m still hoping we can get a card like Maybank SG FCB VISA Singnature with such high cash back and no cap.

There are many VISA and MasterCard with unlimited cash back in Malaysia. Just that the cash back rate is quite poor. MBB M2C AMEX 5x TP is equivalent to 1% but for an AMEX card it is not that great. But of course at least it comes with 5% weekend limited cash back. So that sorts of compensate things up.

Then there is HLB Fortune VISA. But again, it’s earned with minimum swipe of RM2,000 a month calculated on RM100 block. So it’s not great.

Credit card cash back rate is getting worst has to do with BNM imposing a cap on merchant discount rate. BNM’s intention is to make payment by card mainstream in Malaysia but personally I think BNM should have looked at how South Korea made payment by card mainstream.

Did anyone try this recently though ? Because I remember making air tickets purchase on Traveloka with my FCB VS as there was issue with BigPay OTP. Traveloka payment page follows Malaysia time and the payment was done around 11.45pm. The posting date was the same as the transaction date. This was just early this year, by the way.

Indeed it is not possible to top-up GrabPay using PayPal. PayPal is only supported for direct payment.

You guys still can get 2% cash back in the form of Shopee Coins for contactless transaction on most days and 4% cash back on select dates using the new Maybank Shopee VISA Platinum credit card.

Seeing what is happening to this credit card, yes in some ways the new Maybank Shopee VISA Platinum is definitely a better credit card. But it depends on how often do you shop at Shopee too. If you’re staying in Peninsular Malaysia, you should be able to buy a lot of things from Shopee without having to pay for shipping fee and even without discount voucher, a lot of things on Shopee are still quite cheap.

Because 1% is still better than most cards out there that give rewards points which has a value of between 0.16% - 0.25% only. Generally this MBB FCB VS is still good for general spending.
