I'll just walk out. Stupid reason. Its like you go petrol station and pump petrol for your car and they ask for your car ownership details. Pfttt

It's valid, that's the proper SOP to prevent fraud, we don't practice that (verifying the name on the card to the owner by asking for ID) and sometimes we have fraud cases happening more here. Cutting corners, etc.

I am an advocate that all physical cards should not have the contactless payments coil/ feature in them, it's a security nightmare, if I found a card that was dropped on the street, I can shop up to RM 250, groceries, petrol, meals, entertainment.

Contactless payments should go through a layer like Apple Pay/ Google Pay/ Samsung Pay

When I was working as a retail crew in an electronic gadgets shop, the customer made a high volume transaction, more than RM 5,000. An officer from CIMB called the store and I picked up the phone and was requested to ask for the customers I.C and cross reference it with the credit card used.

Why the hell would the bank call the shop instead of the owner of the credit card? That's the SOP of the bank, call the owner to verify the transaction. Swipe and immediately the bank call the shop? I've never heard a bank that efficient, and CIMB is the shittiest bank around. The person might already left the store. I smell bullshit in your story.

Take it as it is, I'm not here to argue, just sharing my experiences.

Citibank is sold to UOB Malaysia, they literally left many markets including Malaysia as part of their consolidation plan. Just better off hoping that UOB supports Apple Pay instead, they don't even support Samsung Pay which has been in Malaysia since 2016. All they have is through their own UOB Mighty app and the NFC payment only works on Android
