The Apple Pay rumor is definitely true, local resellers will encourage customers to activate the apple pay function when they wanna purchase anything in stores. Target date is Q1 2022.

I’m gonna put my reputation in this forum on the line, the Apple Pay will launch in Malaysia in January 2022, possibly with the iOS 15.2 update.

Fuhh what are you guys talking about? The Central bank does not reject Apple Pay, in fact it’s coming real soon. Mark my word 😆

I think I owe you guys a little update on the apple pay development here in Malaysia since I have been partially involved in getting your hopes up.

Well, initially the service was scheduled to be launched before March 2022, but due to unforeseen reasons from the Central Bank, the launch is currently pending until further notice.

Sorry guys.

Just to share that I've been using the apple pay all over Malaysia, from big merchants to small ones. No problem whatsoever as long as the terminal supports the wave function.

I know the exact date when it will launch, but I can’t tell you. Hopefully there won’t be any hiccups like earlier in the year. As far as i know, only one bank will be supporting apple pay at launch.

As "European" I can use Apple pay in Malaysia and is widely supported. The only requirement is "paywave" terminal. Encountered only 1x that a merchant did not have it. Biggest issue is still refunds - Uniqlo was unable to process it so they gave me cash. Second problem is Hilton hotel chain - they require physical card even if you do Apple pay but this causes problem as Apple doesn't reveal true card number.

This is true, i’ve been using apple pay extensively since last December. Apple pay will work as long as the terminal has the ‘wave’ capability. Only a few merchants refuse to accept apple pay even though their terminals support it.

I know you guys here are anxious about apple pay i can feel it from the way you write and ask questions, some had even PMed me 🤣. But rest assured the launch is imminent.
If it somehow failed to materialize, i would never update you all again in this thread.

The best thing about Apple pay is being able to use it on your Apple Watch, especially when you want to top up your petrol, it takes less than 2s to double click and tap your apple watch at the terminal. This works even if you forget to bring your iPhone with you.

yes exactly the feature i have been craving for, i have been in UK, in UK even taking bus/train, they can just tap their apple watch on the terminal for in & out, let alone normal retail payment, petrol etc

just pay with ur watch, instead of having to
1) unlock ur phone, tap into the app, click here and there, wait for face authentication or password authentication
2) take out ur wallet, take out ur card, tap, put back ur card  tongue.gif

In the UK it's even easier if you activate, express transit. You won't have to double click anything because your iphone will basically function like a touch & go card

The pre-registration and pre-authorisation step is only applicable to pilot users. Upon go-live, users will be able to add their respective plastic(s) seamlessly.

There will be a PR/announcement during the first two weeks of August 2021.
It will be the former  smile.gif

I would like to corroborate to this statement, this is what i wanted to tell you guys but was not given the green light at that time biggrin.gif

Quick update guys, I can say with reasonable certainty that the Apple Pay will be launched in Malaysia in less than two weeks' time.

hahaha relax guys, speculation and overanalysing only cause anxiety. The Apple Pay will launch soon, your credit cards if they are eligible will be activated before Apple launches the service officially.

I don’t appreciate this attitude, we are sharing insider’s info because we are just as excited as you. We gain nothing from deceiving you. Of course take everything you see on the internet with a grain of salt.

If you’re wondering why there’s no update from the banks the reason is Apple doesn’t allow it.

Apple is certainly not happy with the leaks so far, merchants/banks have been expressively told not to update their websites or distribute fliers or tweets anything related to the launch.

why not. they will be more happy than ever. free marketing advertisement . it always before announcement

I'm referring to the leaked maxis poster, there are other merchants who had wanted to update their stores today but were then stopped by Apple.

It's not really about the free advertisement, but Apple has set a certain minimum level of standard that must be complied prior to launch so that their customers satisfaction remains at the highest level.
