Anyone heading to Seoul in 28 May to 1 June?
Will it be summer alredi? can i wear shorts n t? just like M'sia? any advise?

I have trouble choosing my dinner in Seoul reason is they all r the same for korean food... almost similar..... any must try restaurant  that serves good jap food or steaks?
google here n there also end up with korean food.... myeongdong street food is also so so only .... all fried n nothing special.... i.e; prawn tempura... m'sia also got lar..........
*
Summer is not here yet. I currently work in Seoul. Weather is bit erratic these few weeks. Some days its chilly or rainy, low 10s to mid 10s. Some days its quite warm, up to 25. A light/medium jacket is probably a good idea. Shorts is probably ok if its not really windy that day.

Korean food may not have a a lot of variety (I kinda agree), but the quality makes a big difference. Like a good samgyeopsal place will taste a lot better than any other place and you can tell by how packed it is. Myeongdong street food is overpriced modern and clean street food for tourists, but it's ok to try if you haven't done it before.

If you really insist on wanting other non-korean stuff, you may be disappointed. The average non-korean food here is actually not that great for the price you are paying. The popular non-korean stuff is like American, Vietnamese, Japanese, Italian, and Mexican food. I don't really think you want to eat that kind of food in Korea. LOL. Google for the best korean restos to try in the area you are staying or going. Most of the time, they are pretty ok.

On business trip, quick question: marrriot courtyard hotelbetter or dcube Sheraton ? Anyone stayed these 2 hotels before can advise ?
*
The area you staying seems quite far from the usual tourist hotspots. It’s like 30 to 45 mins away from most places. Don’t think many people would have stayed there before.

sure.
saturday 10am arrive at Incheon airport, i didnt update the clock GMT+9.
first saw KEB Hana counter nearby bagage area, miss pretty quoted me RM1=246 for small amount, no choice lose a bit.
penang able get RM1=267. i was planned earlier but late to do sweat.gif

after i went upstair finding Airasia counter to get boarding pass for return flight. rupa2 upper floor still got a few currency counter operated by different banks.
i survey a bit @Shinhan RM1=239. worse than earlier so i give up. pls change KRW siap2.

ok continue my mission to find Airasia counter, walk a few row i realise the counters are follow alphabetic. so Airasia=A, last row!
i walk a few minute to get there, took a pic as reminder too.
this moment i looking at big screens then realise the clock need to adjust. im late again, need rush to yes24 live hall.

i was blur to reload t-money. luckily their part time staff (i guess) able speak basic english, so i took AREX transit then change to regular subway train.
go meet up with a few friends under sunny day, unlike hot msia. do some activities and skip x3 until 9pm concert finish, kthxbye to friends.

my night plan was shopping and sight seeing until morning flight. so i took train to Dongdaemun for Migliore, Doota, hello APM etc... which operate at wee hours.
just a quick run outside have street food, taste so-so compared to Msia food. haha our locals still win.

easily felt boring i get to next stop Myeongdong. unfortunately i took wrong direction, catching the correct train it stops 12am. damn im stuck at a random station.

lol. what an adventure indeed. how did you get to the airport then? what did you do between then?

Hi all,
I am going to Seoul in October and booked with Korean Air. I understand that we have to print our own boarding pass if we do web check-in. Unfortunately i don't have printer at home and it's too early if i do it at office on Friday since my flight is on Sunday midnight.

Can i just go ahead with the web check in and show them my e-ticket when i drop my luggage and get my boarding pass from there?

This is my first time taking Korean Air.
*
Not necessary to print. Can just go to counter, hand over your passport and check in luggage. Ez.

Hi, i will be going to Seoul this week and i was told to take a bus (6020) to Yeoksam station, where the hotel is walking distance within the business district. Are the signs written in English or Korean at the station? Also, since google offline maps don't work there, are there any recommended apps?
*
What is the name of the hotel?

You probably won't be able to find the place without a map or app. Download Kakao Map or Naver Map. Both are available in English and quite easy to use.

After reading many posts here, I still have some questions about money exchange. It seems like exchange rate in Korea is better than the rate in Malaysia.
1) They might not accept Malaysian Ringgit. How about Singapore dollar? Can I bring Singapore dollar and exchange in Korea? Is the rate better?
2) Many people here said exchange in Myeongdong get better rate. But I'm not going to Myeongdong in the first day. How about the exchange rate in Dongdaemun?
3) How do we check the rate for ATM withdrawal in Korea?
*
Unless you are changing like more than RM10k to won, don't bother really. The train/taxi/bus/effort to get around will be more than what you save. lol.

Would actually recommend not cooking when you guys are there. Eating out is easier and cheaper. Western ingredients are more expensive than korean ingredients in general. Korean ingredients are not that much cheaper than the cost of a meal in a resto. It's also not that easy to buy stuff to cook as well.

got english..but im not sure if they do accept non-korean credit card..u can try.
*
kakao taxi is available in english, but it doesn't accept foreign credit cards through the app. You can pay the taxi driver directly with credit card, t-money or cash though. same thing.

uber is also available but uber black only. x1.5 to x2 times the price but sometimes its the easier option during late nights at the hot partying spots.

When comes to cooking, we are just thinking to cook ramyeon noodle for supper. Or have some hard boiled eggs in the morning. Make our own coffee or sandwich. Nothing fancy.

If I were to stay 2 weeks, then we will cook some days to save money to explore more places.
*
Lol, understood. FYI, you can get a lot of fast and affordable food from the convenient stores like GS, CU and 7-11. They have almost everything you want.

I have been looking at the weather forecast for next week. It seemed it's getting warmer again.
We are also going up to Mt Seoraksan for day trip.

I am having hard time deciding the type of jacket i want to bring. LOL

Speaking of fast food, we will check it out at the convenience store you mentioned. Thanks!
*
It will be cold enough! At least two layers + medium thickness jacket recommended.

It is cheaper to buy winter jacket in Korea for common brands such as Uniqlo, Zara, H&M?
*
No, its actually slightly cheaper in Malaysia because of the weaker ringgit, but you may get more winter stuff in Korea that are not available back home.

Mainstream Korean brands are not cheaper either but in general, they are of "better quality" and follow the latest Korean fashion trends.

I'm going on mid December.

This is my 1st real winter, to coldest I've been is 5C ~ 15C.

I brought gloves, Uniqlo Heattech, but I'm not sure if I really need a thicker jacket.  wink.gif
*
YES. By mid December, the average temp would probably be in the negative even in the day time.

Last year's winter was one of the coldest in Korea's history with temp as low as -15 in Seoul and even colder in some parts. Forecast this year is saying that its going to be even colder than last year! ohmy.gif

Even for people that used to winter weather, Korea's winter is bone numbing cold. Best to layer a lot and get the thickest jacket you can. Indoor heating is very good and warm though, so you can adjust your layers accordingly after a few days.

Forecast says Jeju will be slightly warmer than Seoul next week. Mid to high 10s in the day time, low 10s in the night. smile.gif

Withdrawing cash in won from malaysian bank acct will incur bank and high forex fees, so pay in cash or credit card is better. Almost every shop like convenient stores and mom and pop shops accepts credit card, even for like 1000 won.

Kinda hard to say if RM2k is enough for shopping because it depends on what you want to buy. You can go crazy and buy RM1k or more worth of beauty stuff alone. In any case, you can always use your credit card.

FYI, it was still negative temp until end of Feb last year...

Check a few days again before you to be safe.
