QUOTE(Fyonne @ Sep 29 2016, 10:11 AM)
any tips on Nikko?
im doin trip from Tokyo to Nikko for a day trip.

Japan guide say Chuzenji Lake is best on Mid-October. (an hour bus ride >1k yen)
i rounded my plan, earliest ride (my JR pass still active) shinkansen to Utsunomiya then JR Nikko train to Nikko.

bus ride to Chuzenji (or perhaps Ryuzu Fall but there are more bus to Chuzenji Onsen area, Kegon Waterfall than further down) n back to visit Toshugu-ji n return to Tokyo.
I would probably wont have time for Kirifuri Waterfall.

or skip Chuzenji part. stick around Toshugu area (few temple near it, Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Botanical Garden) n perhap visit Kirifuri Waterfall.
Rennoji is under renovation. so will skip it.
*
why not overnight in Nikko. Eventhough it can be done on a day trip, but Nikko has so much to offer. Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Waterfall is a must to go since you are in Nikko already. Consider to get the 2 days pass =http://www.tobu.co.jp/foreign/en/pass/twoday.html

Hi guys, I'm planning to have a solo trip to Tokyo next year February 10 - February 17. May I know how's the weather in Tokyo on February? Did some Google and I found this Suica card seems to be the most universal card that can be used on train, vending machine, etc. Which place is best to stay which easy access to train ?
*
hey, i'm going same date as yours. maybe we can meet in Tokyo wink.gif

few question
1. anyone been to Ito-Yokado at kiba station?...seems alot of choices
2. when u want tax refund, is it that they will packed all your stuff into a box and seal it?
*
Tax refund will be done immediately at the shop you bought those stuff. Food and make-ups, they will seal in a bag and you can only open it when back to malaysia. Others like bag, shoes, cameras, no seal.

anyone tried to buy a macbook from japan?

will get tax for gst from malaysia custom?
*
If you buy only one unit, no problem to pass malaysia custom. FYI, Apple products in Japan are only slightly cheaper than Malaysia now due to our falling rate....last two years was about rm500-600 cheaper

travelrecommends have counter at KLIA2 too
check their website under "locate us"
and how are u supposed to claim those things back?
thats sounds really troublesome just for the sake of tax free
*
You can choose to send to airport or own carry.
And yeah, you cannot open the bag and arrange in your bag. Thats why I brought along an extra suitcase just to carry back my 'loots' because I know it's very hard to pack when it's sealed in a bag. Also, you can hand carry onboard the plane.

QUOTE(cmah89 @ Oct 31 2016, 09:30 AM)
Cool, Just wondering since our airport always 'rampas' liquid stuff.
Not sure if they will check in Japan airport or not.

Going on March for 9 day 8 nights jalan2/shopping, assuming gonna purchase a lot of stuff there.
*
For free duty items like alchohol and perfume which are sealed in the bag, is no problem to hand carry on board...

*

QUOTE(limchee @ Oct 31 2016, 03:19 PM)
for my trip in June, after visiting Lake Mashu area, I am torn between going towards Lake Akan or Kushiro. anyone can advise me which one better to go?

Lake Akan
Onsen resort, Ainu Souvenir Street and Museum and Fire Festival performance at night. But I feel a bit too touristy.

Kushiro
Visit Kushiro Wetlands on the way, have Robatayaki at night. next morning visit Washo market for Katte Don. Accommodation are cheaper than Lake Akan onsen resort.

any idea?
*
I vote Lake Akan tongue.gif

Cheapest way is to go to those shops that buys and sells ticket around Tokyo. Depends very much if there is anyone selling it to the shop. Most probably you will get 100-200yen discount.
*
sacwoc...I'm choosing to stay between Ikebukuro and Ryogoku area....what's your opinion? Thanks.

Not really. With Hokuriku Shinkansen Iiyama is only 1 hour 50 mins from Tokyo, after that 15-20 min taxi ride to Nozawa.
*
Then?just do a day trip there? Don't forget, this person only have 5days in Japan.

He has 7 full days, minus 1 for Disney Sea.

IMO 6 days is too much just for Tokyo, he can easily do an overnight trip to Nozawa Onsen, ski for 2 full days.
*
6 days for Tokyo too much?
