I am going to hokkaido end of June, but read that the gov is going against airbnb now, is it true? Is anyone here still using airbnb service in Japan or it's safer for me to go for proper hotel instead? Thanks

Sorry are you referring to airbnbs being ban in japan ? I booked airbnb for my japan trip earlier last month. Not a problem at all.

I'd suggest you get DisneySea tickets here before you go. I reach DisneySea 8.15am and the queue to buy ticket is long! Few websites to buy tickets actually.

The extra few minutes for you saved from buying ticket over the counter can save you alot of time for the game queues.
I rent my place last year Oct or Nov, just came back last week, no problem whatsoever. If you are really worried, can always go for the recommendations on first page.

Btw, I'm very much hooked to the culture there! I miss Japan! Anyone wants to go to Tokyo with strangers for a new experience, do let me know! I'm looking for people to go along!

My initial date is 31st August until 4th of September.

Ok, then I can book it. I heard from relatives who just went to Tokyo area during cny, their booking being cancelled due to this issue.

My current plan as following :

30/6 arrival at sapporo Airport via Aax, early morning. Sapporo + susukino

1/7 Sapporo + otaru

2/7, 3/7 Furano Biei, back to sapporo on 3/7

4/7, 5/7 Noribetsu, Lake Toya ,back to sapporo 5/7

6/7 flight to Tokyo, still planning

1. For 30/6-2/7 no need car as transport right? Only needed onwards.

2. The return to sapporo on 3/7 kinda waste, any suggestions on changes done to the trip?

3. Anyone been to Lake Akan? Is it worthwhile? Any other places suggested? I have yet to book flight ticket to Tokyo, so still can make changes to the plan.

4. Is hakodate area worth a visit?

Thanks

Guardian Lake Akan really far. For first timer to Hokkaido 7-ish days IMO not worth it to go there.

I guess you could add one more area in your planning - Daisetsuzan mountains (either kurodake/sounkyou onsen or asahidake), or hakodate could be good also depending what you want to see.

My hakodate blog here if you interested. The town itself so-so only but the seafood market there is superb, especially the うに丼 ie sea urchin rice bowl: http://look-see-eat.blogspot.sg/2015/11/ho...et-seafood.html

Thanks, will have a look.

You mean AirBnB? I experienced something similar in November. 1.5 weeks prior to my trip, I received an email from the airBnB host that they had to cancel my booking because they were not allowed to rent out the apartment anymore. Perhaps previous guests were too noisy/ didn't adhere to rules and the residents complaint.

Solution was: they offered me another accommodation owned in Shinjuku. After checking out the place (and it less comfortable for 3 people), i decided to cancel the booking and rent another place instead. The money was fully refunded to me (it was very fast, within a day or two?).

Yes I agree it wasn't pleasant to have my booking cancelled last minute especially when I booked it 4-5 months in advance. I actually panicked at first, and was wondering what to tell my friends. Luckily everything worked out in the end biggrin.gif
Ok, seems not scary as I thought , will give it a try then, still seeing lots of airbnb places available on airbnb website.

I need some suggestions on my summer season itinerary, currently planning to spend a few days in hokkaido following with Tokyo.

Day 1
Arrival at Sapporo Airport via AA.
-Curb Market
-Spend the rest of the day around Sapporo, night time drop by Susukino

Day 2
Another day at Sapporo + Otaru half day trip

Day 3 and 4
Furano and Biei, drive to Chitose (?) to spend a night .

Day 5 and 6
Drive to Noboribetsu from Chitose, next day visit Lake Toya before going back to Chitose

Day 7
Early flight to Tokyo

1. Is the time allocated to Sapporo sufficient? Same for Furano and Biei, is the time enough? Assuming that I depart from Sapporo to Furano early morning, leaving to Chitose by evening.
2. Lake Toya, is it worth a visit? Is half day trip sufficient or better spent on Noboribetsu?
3. Anyone been to Mount Tarumae of Chitose, as well as Daisetsuzan? Seems like these two are interesting places but wondering where to slot into.
4. For day 4, is it advisable to spend a night at Chitose or better return to Sapporo?

Thanks

For those who have visited tsukiji tuna auction before, may I know where do you guys stay? The train isn't operating at such time I assume, since I read that they have limited amount of visitors daily so need to reach very early.

1. Rent an AirBnB or hotel within walking distance
2. Take a taxi if your accommodation isn't too far away
3. Take the last train and stay awake overnight

For reference -- asakusa to tsukiji by taxi was ¥4500 3-4 years ago when I did #2.

Thanks, I went for APA hotel, seems to be walking distance.

Hi, anyone can recommend a budget stay near Shinjuku/Tokyo area? Tried a few days to search for hotels and mostly are RM500++ per night. Budget around RM200/night. If anyone stays at any places, please share or maybe airbnb also ok. Tried airbnb too but not much choices. Thanks
*
Try airbnb? Make sure you book earlier, I booked for my end of June trip few days ago, most of the rm 200 range are fully booked.

Anyone uses tabirai and tocoo service before? Tocoo seems to be much cheaper despite the same rental company, is it trustable or have some hidden T&C? Thanks

I am thinking to book the car through jalan.net, but it's asking for name in katakana. Anyone booked from there before? Can I use katakana that sounds similar? Thanks
