Just came back from 3 weeks Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka-Nara-Kobe. The best time of my life.
Already planning to go again next year but not sure to re-visit Osaka-Kyoto, visit Hiroshima(Rabbit island), or go to Sendai(Tashirojima for the cats/Zao Fox Village).

Atm not planning to go to Hokkaido as I don't really like snow that much.
Will probably go during autumn or spring... really leaning towards spring tho.

Hi there, are u able to share us us itinerary, going to Osaka at early Oct this year for 13 days, planning the trip and locking on accomodation.

Any suggestion of good accommodation on the mentioned placed?
*
Well.. I stayed at an Airbnb in all those places. In Kyoto and Osaka, a room suitable for 2 but I hog it all to meself. Around rm100-150 per night.
You could get much cheaper like rm80 but I prefer some kind of comfort when i stay there.
Could also get about the same price in booking.com.

I'll clean up my itinerary and share with you soon. Its very messy right now tongue.gif I'll throw in pictures as well to bait you flex.gif

After my stay in a ryokan in Kobe, I have to agree to my Airbnb host in Kyoto... If you go to Japan, you NEED to stay in a ryokan at least a day.
Experience the onsen, the culture, the relaxation etc. Wear your yukata and geta to walk around the town, get good pictures.
It's pricey tho.. around rm1.2k per night when i purchased and current rate around rm1.5k.
Use the onsen after you checked in, after dinner and before check out the next day biggrin.gif

My logic for spring is a little bit different tho.
Spring = gets somewhat warmer towards summer(i discarded heattech on 3rd day).
Autumn = gets cooler towards winter.

Soooo.... I don't have to worry about buying extra clothing article if I have to since I want to pack light.
I feel like quitting job here and go teach english there tongue.gif

So as I understand, May is towards summer already right? Does it get warm enough that our normal clothes is enough during the day? Or is it still closer to Cameron Highlands kind of weather -  sometimes cool sometimes warm, so prepare jacket. (assuming Tokyo)

And since it's almost summer, if one has to pick between Tokyo or Kyoto, which is better suited for the weather?
*
A normal sweater is more than sufficient by now. Might not even wear em even though temperature is pretty low due to body heat from walking tongue.gif
Between those cities.. they have the same weather. It boils down to what do you want to do.

And one important advise, don't waste time going as many place as you can for your first trip. Because it often unlikely to be the last trip there. thumbup.gif

I second this. I'm already planning to re-visit osaka/kyoto and probably extend to hiroshima this time.
While tokyo is a very good place to re-visit, the living cost is higher than kansai area.

As I discovered I preferred food/scenery over busy city life in my last visit, I made that kansai re-visit decision.
It is very likely that there is a "next time" for japan biggrin.gif

p/s: It's probably only me.. but I don't find Nara really interesting.

Nobody knows what you like to see or experience. Some people like going to temples/castles. Some prefer riverside or mountains, and some gila anime spend 2 days at Akihabara. And some just like to sight see here and there a bit while exploring food the region could offer like me rclxms.gif

I'd advise changing a decent amount of money in yen. Some restaurants do not accept cc. Not to mention the restaurants that uses vending machine to order.

1st week of April is a bit too early actually. Try 2nd week unless you plan on visiting the more southern side of Japan.
I was in Tokyo for 10 days from 2nd April. Less than half bloomed on the first week.
Can't say for sure since we can't predict 100% for next year tho..

Below comparison at Nihonbashi Sakuradori. (daytime 3rd April, nighttime 10th April)

sorry for not giving more details.

Osaka, Nara, Kobe (may be only), Kyoto then Osaka fly back. 9D8N.

Yes, plan to rent the wagon (Serena). Just came across few rental website like Toyota rent, Nippon Rent Car and also tocoo. Not sure if this Tocoo website is reliable or not that's why thought of seeking advice here.

This is still very broad. What are the places you plan to go?
Try checking out the attraction for the places and plan your itinerary. Once done, people here may give you suggestions if its feasible or not.
Then you may get suggestions to adjust on finer details.

Different people got different things they find attractive. Food and view, Temples and castles, hiking and chill, etc.
If we were to include all, nobody could explore in a short time(and enjoy it).

Dear Sifu(s),

Enclosed herewith is my Osaka, Japan Itinerary for your comments.

As currently im unsure the days set for my Osaka-Kyoto-Nara trip.

Pls advise whether the days set is sufficient to cover each location and recommendation on accommodation is greatly appreciated.

On USJ, will it be too crowded on the day i set?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.
*
Itinerary seems decent. I see you're a big temple/castle fan eh?
If you're in a mood to eat, consider Nishiki market in Kyoto.
I also noticed you didnt include Ginkakuji, philosoper's path and Uji(famous for green tea, Byōdō-in Temple) in Kyoto. Then again you might not have enough time tongue.gif

Kyoto got a lot to offer. Nishijin if you're into textile(their yukata/kimono is pretty pricey although its pretty dull. However they're very famous)
My advise is not to limit yourselves to castles and temples and dont make them mandatory. for example day 1.. visit a particular area. visit what you can visit. otherwise you might burn yourself out instead of the vacation you looked forward to.

I believe in relaxing while jalan-jalan instead of rushing. Its so much more enjoyable and memorable.

Hi, I'm back with question again. Do we need special adaptor for Japan. I know their voltage is less than us so do we need special transformer?
*
most adapters will set the volt so no need to pay attention on the volt requirement.
The pin massively used is the 2 bladed straight pin. Some said they also have 3 pin(1 straight blade + 1 round) but during my stay there, I highly advice against assuming everywhere has the 3 pins. Most uses 2 pin plug/socket.

Hi everyone,
Currently planning my japan trip. Will arrive in Osaka and go back from Tokyo.
Btw first time going japan hence i need some advise and still in planning stage (Reading about JR pass also half dead d)

1. will 10 days be sufficient for Osaka, kyoto, tokyo and others like hakone or fuji five lakes (4 days for kyoto, osaka and kobe, 4 days for tokyo and 2days for others).
- Definitely not enough if you plan to explore the entirety of Tokyo at a relaxed pace. If you have no issue with sore feet and rushing, i guess you could somehow squeeze it. I would not recommend it tho.
I was in Tokyo for 10 days. Allocated 1 day for each district or two. With the few days balance, I revisited the districts I feel I missed some of the attractions or it's so good I wanna go again to explore in depth.

2. i guess i wont need JR pass as i plan to get JR West pass for kansai area and just use metro pass or suica card for tokyo?
- Personally, i'll use the 7 days metro pass. I'll get a Suica on the side for JR tracks. This is for Tokyo tho. For Kansai(Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe etc), I used Icoca for busses and trains.

3. Roughly whats the budget per night for accommodation? Will RM200 per night too budget?
- My accommodations were between RM88-RM132 perday through AirBnB(current rate) for Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

4. For view of mt fuji, better to go Hakone or Fuji five lakes? or any other suggestions?

5. Better to get a sim card or mobile wifi? Any idea how much and which is better?
- As a lot of people here answered, SIM for solo, Mobile WIFI for group 3 and more. However I went with Mobile WIFI during my solo trip for the unlimited data/speed tongue.gif

Too late to change as we already purchased our tickets. We not much of shrine, temple and parks go-er. Maybe only visit famous places.

1 day 2 night Osaka (arrive Osaka already evening)
2d 2n kyoto,
1 day kobe day trip and
1d 1n - Hakone or Kawaguchiko
4d 3n - Tokyo

How about Nara, its pretty much parks and temples/shrines.. anyplace which is worth going?

I will be traveling with my wife only. So i will get a sim card and some bnb provide free use of their pocket wifi.
But if wanna get pocket wifi how much is it and where should i get one? before going or when reach there?

Thanks.
*
We're prolly somewhat of a same kind then. I am not a temple guy myself since I go around for food and views. But i do go to some parks since they have breathtaking views.
A bit of advice, bring a sweater along if you're staying out later than 7PM. It may not be so cold during the day, but when it gets dark the chill gets so much more intense. A down jacket would be nice since it's space friendly.

As a foodie, I winced at your duration for Osaka and Kyoto since they have awesome food, view and attractions.
Then again.. I do not know the focus of your trip so.. yeah..

About Nara.. as I did not visit temples as much(still visited a number of them in Kansai) I don't find a lot of interesting stuff there. If you don't care about temples and deer, might as well skip it.

I got my pocket wifi from Wiyo when they promoted RM14 perday for Japan. It's now RM20 tho.. They'll call, meet and give you the device before your departure(you state the date and time) and they'll call you to pick up when you arrive.
If you departure/touchdown at KLIA2, it's self service at their counter for both pick up and return.
Some other providers are offering RM15 per day but I can't tell about the service. Just read through their rental steps and you'll be fine.

Guys, need a few opinions/feedbacks

1. Alot of review of osaka castle is overrated - especially going in. But since i will be for spring, just wanna go take pictures of cherry blossom and not going in.

2. What time does shops/department shops/eateries close in Shinbashi and Dotonbori?
- If I recall correctly... some of the stalls start closing from 10pm. Some will be very late tho so no issue there.
Restaurants tho.. there are some 24 hours restaurants like Ichiran in Dotonburi. Just so you know there are 2 Ichiran there and they are nearby  biggrin.gif
Department shops will start closing from 9PM if I'm not mistaken. I recall walking around that huge multi story shop about to close but did not see the time.

3. Any suggestion for what to do if we arrived around 5pm in Osaka? I planned Harukas 300 deck to see sunset and night lights of Osaka and then dinner in Dotonbori and walk shinbashi shops. (If they dont close around 9pm)

4. For osaka/kyoto which attraction for you is overrated? Or which attraction i would prefer to spend more time.
I'm not sure if you would call it an attraction... but maybe you've heard of that famous Kichi-Kichi omurice in Kyoto in youtube. Honestly it tasted...average. Got the same feedback from various housemates there. Not worth the wait time(days). However.. I'm not sure what but the eggs in Japan are delicious thumbup.gif
Nishiki market in Kyoto however is a must go if you claim to be a foodie. I even went there twice  tongue.gif
Bamboo forest in Arashiyama is overated. However the parks around it is absolutely beautiful.
