Different school of thoughts have different thoughts on this.

For myself I only consciously not walk under clothing lines. Sometimes as all humans do, we tend to forget.

If you look behind the underlying principles behind all of the above said taboos - it only boils down to one thing, respect your amulet as it is a holy object.

Juz chipping in my opinion and what I know. For regular amulets (not those with spirits or barang), the power of the amulet is cemented forever if the monk who consecrated it pass on (died) while still upholding the Buddha's Teaching.
The basic principle that gives rise to so many Thai Buddhist amulets comes from a vow made by the Deva King. As the legend goes, the Deva King held high respect to the Lord Buddha for his virtue and teaching to all sentient beings. The Deva King thus vowed that whoever follows the teaching of the Master with diligence and faith will have their wishes granted and protected by the devas.
So, true monks (not just any guy in a yellow robe will do but those that diligently follow the Buddha’s teaching), having compassion for sentient beings, thus utilises this vow made by the Deva King and issue amulets, making wishes in the consecration ceremony that whoever wears the particular amulet will be free from harm, acquire wealth, loving kindness, authority, etc. So the power of regular amulets comes from the wishes made by the monks. If the monk pass on while still diligently practising the Buddha’s teaching, then the vow made by the Deva King will be unbroken forever and the power of the amulet is cemented forever.
That’s why, amulets made by acclaimed masters who have pass on such as AC Toh, LP Suk, LP Pan, LP Choong, LP Sud, LP Kong, and many more are so prized by devotees, coz the power of their amulets last forever as they have all passed on while still diligently practising the Lord Buddha’s teaching.
So logically/rationally speaking, will the power of amulets be lost if we go to toilet wearing it, walk under hanging cloths, go to the maternity ward, and all the taboos that we have been boggled with? Will the wish of the master making it and the vow of the Deva King be broken by such act? It is just out of our respect for this sacred object that we try our best to avoid such unclean act, nothing will harm the power of the amulet if u have understood where the power comes from..
For example, amulets by AC Toh are at least 138 years old, those by LP Suk, LP Pan, are over 80 years old, Phra Rod amulets from Wat Mahawan are over 1000 years old, Nangpaya amulets are 500 years old and many others old amulets, so many things unimaginable would have happened to these amulets in the course of their long history but why are devotees still willing to pay such a hefty amount to rent them? Think about it..it’s in understanding the source of the power, the vow is unbroken..
On the other hand, amulets made by living monks, who have broken their Buddhist practise in the course of their life will be lost without having u going to the toilet, walk under clothing, going to funeral, maternity ward and whatsoever cause the vow has been broken and the devas are in no obligation to grant the wishes of these disgraced monks/ex-monks..
There are another class of sacred objects/barang/spirits/amulets that derive their power from magical art and not from the vow of the Deva King. For these amulets, the power comes from magical incantation/practise and the power may be broken under certain circumstances as all magic can be broken. For example, spirits may leave the amulets, magical spell broken due to certain reason, etc.
So, in summary, for regular Buddhist amulets, it doesn’t matter what form/image it comes in, the power lies in what are the wishes made by the monks making them and if the monk truly practise the Buddha’s teaching till the end..

Good for u..Wish i could be there to sort out the "treasure" together with u. What do u mean by misuse? If u mean if the person is doing bad things, will the amulet still protect him?
That depends on his own karma..the amulet will not lose its power, juz that at the moment the person is doing bad thgs, the amulet may fail to protect him..but another good person wearing it later on will be protected..The fault is with the person not the amulet, the wish and the vow made is not broken.
If karma has ripen, then with the best amulet in the world also things cannot be changed. Amulets serve as a catalyst, to give us the additional boost to reach our goal or to protect us from unexpected danger..
Even the Buddha in his lifetime cannot stop his own city state from being destroyed by her enemy because the karma is as such..

Well, maybe the seller also dunno..coz old Somdej WRK very difficult to ID..We go on a "to the best of my knowledge" basis in dealing..Unless sciencetifically proven by carbon dating by drilling a small hole into the amulet..if the age of the material is abt 150 yrs +/-, then it should be consecrated by AC Toh himself..PM me yr phone number. Nobody got it, it's a hoax..They are looking for Somdej WRK 1st batch, BE 2356, only 4 made and 3 and a half remaining only. 1 is in the hand of the Royal family, 1 in the hand of ex-PM Thaksin, one broken into half and juz one dunno where is it's whereabout..Do u think it's in Malaysia?
Maha Chat/Porthan Chat is the abbot of Wat Molelimit, Pattani. He is the youngest person to be appointed as abbot of a temple in Pattani at age 31 and he already qualified to the rank Maha at age 29 (BE2541) and Porthan at age 32 (BE2544). The good master is highly skilled in Dharma, magical art from Thai, Khmer and Muslim tradition. Amongst other his master is from Cambodia and he is also the disciple of LP Thong, Wat Sampaucher.

I am more concerned on how they appoint an abbot rather than choosing one that has been 'enlighten'. The news below is one abbot aged 24
Monk, novice defrocked, charged with murder

CHIANG MAI: -- Khruba Noi Arnawelo, an abbot at Payak Donkaew Temple, and a novice, Phra Amphon Aumkul, were charged yesterday over the murder of a 17-year-old vocational schoolboy - a slaying alleged sparked by jealous rage.

Following the shooting of Amornpan Chamnikrai, 17, at the temple entrance on Wednesday, the victim's girlfriend, identified as "Kwang" (not her real name), 19, told Doi Sa Ket police Amornpan came to pick her up after work. While they were passing the temple, a white Toyota car that had tailed them sped up and parked at the temple entrance. The assailants got out of the car and shot Amornpan.

Kwang admitted she dated Khruba Noi, now 24, but kept a distance after he became a monk. She said she had started seeing Amornpan two weeks prior to the shooting but the boy had been threatened by the monk to end the relationship with "Kwang".

Police investigators initially found that Khruba Noi called another girlfriend to pick them up and ordered Phra Amphon to shoot the victim.

Both Khruba Noi and Phra Amphon have been defrocked, although they deny any wrong-doing.

The monk was well-known due to his reputation as a fortune teller, and as a follower of the late Khruba Sriwichai, as well as meditating for seven days in a cave while not eating.
