so here's the thing. My PC is upstairs n my TV is downstairs. Is it possible to have the hypptv box downstairs and the modem/router/whatever that is connecting to the internet upstairs? sorry if the question sounds simple n ridiculous. i really have no idea whats a btu unit n etc lol.
*
Yes you can. That's how I did to my unfi set up. My btu unit, router, phone, all of them were setup next to my PC in my room upstair, meanwhile, the hypp tv box was setup downstair, next to the TV in the living room.

However, your HYPP TV box need to be connected to the router in order to work. So a long CAT5/CAT6 cable is needed (provided by TM). Depends on how far the distance between your router and the Hypp TV box. The TM guy who come to install for you will charge you if the cable length is exceed than their standard requirement. Mine was about RM130 since my room is far way from the living room.

Consult with the technician before the installation start. Tell him how and where you want to setup all those stuff inside your home. Make sure yourself or someone else from your family will stay inside your home and monitoring their work progress. All the setup should be free in charge, unless your cable length is exceed than their standard requirement. Those cable charges is stated inside that Unifi contract you received when you registered.

My unifi seemed down at midnight every fortnight for 2-3 hours. Is this thing normal?
*
Same here. But mine was every week. And I thought it's my router issue. May be TM is doing maintenance at midnight?

Bro, this issue is not happening every night. As I said previously, it's happened once a week for me. The other forumer said it's happened every fortnight for him. My best guess is TM was doing some kind of maintenance routine. And it's only done in certain areas.

Hopefully this day will come soon. biggrin.gif

is this mean that the TM stock router cannot support up to 50mbps? hmm.gif

I applied for UniFi and currently my house is using streamyx under my mother's name. I know I'm getting a new phone number for UniFi but can I cancel the streamyx and keep the old phone number (that means I would have 2 phone numbers). If yes, how much would I be charged every month?

Yes you can. Just make sure you tell the counter to keep your old phone line active when you cancel your streamyx. Also make sure the operator link your old phone number to your unifi account in their system. If not, their system will see your old phone number under a seperate account and they will keep charging you leasing phone line fee (RM 22-23..I forgot) every month. After linking your old phone number to your unifi account, they will only charge you rm1 (leasing fee) per month. Of course, they will charge you extra like normal when you use the old phone line to call.

QUOTE
Btw, can I receive or make calls if the UniFi modem or router or UniFi itself is not functioning?
Depends. Sometimes the internet connection is off but the call line is still working. The new line is connected to the BTU unit. It has nothing to do with your router. You need to make sure your BTU unit is working in order to keep the new phone line active.

Thank you! Just want to make this clear. The UniFi is under my name and the old phone number is under my mum's name. Is it still possible to link?
*
Yes. Absolutely can. I can guarantee that because I also had the exact same situation like yours.

My Unifi account is under my name, but my home old phone line is under my father's name. So I asked the operator whether I can keep the old line after I cancel the streamyx. She said can. I knew that the old line leasing fee could be waived if one registered Unifi account. So I asked her if I can apply that eventhough the old phone line is not under my name. She said can, as long as the address for both account are the same. After she keyed in something to their system, voila! Everything settle. I can enjoy my Unifi while my old folks still can use the old phone line to call, with only RM1 leasing fee per month. thumbup.gif

When you cancel your streamyx, make sure you tell them clear and loud about your request and make sure they do settle it on the spot for you. thumbsup.gif

Does that mean 2 separate bills would be sent to my house, one for UniFi (my name) and one for the old phone number (mum's name).
*
Yes. The bill of the old phone number will still be under your mum's name though. smile.gif

Btw, only the old phone line bill will be sent to your home by posman. As for Unifi, you will need to access the online bill statement and make your payment online through their TM portal.

Been wondering whether I am eligible for the free upgrade, TM sent me a "Thank You Surprises" SMS just now. smile.gif

So guys, be alerted. From now on, TM will either send you a SMS or email anytime, as a proof showing that you are eligible for the free upgrade.

'Thank You Surprises' and more exciting TM offers throughout 2017.

Keep a lookout for the surprises coming your way.

Thank you for your continuous support and we look forward to serving you better.

Our Best Wishes and a very Happy New Year!

Ya. The SMS content is exactly the same as well. Not sure why some received the message through email while some are getting it through SMS. Not that I am complaining though since SMS is much faster and direct compared to email checking. laugh.gif

But anyway, still hoping it is a free upgrade. biggrin.gif
*
Well, the guy who received free VOD today, which is in 2016, while the TM message does emphasize that the surprises will only come throughout 2017. So I tend to believe the so call surprises is free upgrade. biggrin.gif

Yes. I think after 2017, more and more 100Mpbs users will complain. The only problem right now is that whether TM will entertain the complaints or not.

I suggest you be careful and read the terms and condition thoroughly.

...................

If anyone want to correct me then your very welcome as I'm just as confused as everyone regarding this nonsense.
*
Well bro, appreciate for your hard works on the analysis, but I would like to suggest you to ignore those TM T&C because they are confusing. At this moment, better gather all the info/action we could obtain among ourselves inside this thread. This is much useful and understandable compared to that TM T&C.

One thing for sure, the exisiting unifi users are also eligibled for the free upgrade, no matter you were registering before Dec 2016 or between 1 Dec - 31 Dec 2016. Old or new customers, you all have the chance to get the free upgrade, as long as you didn't received any auto free upgrade before this.

Reasons:

1. Most of the existing unifi users (including me) already received "Thank You Surprises" messages from TM via SMS/email, indicating that the free upgrade is on the way in 2017.

2. Yesterday mod fruitie already chatted with TM CS and confirmed users who received the message are eligibled for the free upgrade.

3. Some users reported that you can ask the TM CS over the TM facebook, ask them to check if your account is eligibled for the free upgrade. The result was varies since not everyone could get their answer at the end. But there's a few users who did get their answer over the facebook.

So for all Unifi users, don't care you are existing or potential registree in this month, as long as you are registered to Unifi BEFORE 2017, as long as you didn't get any auto free upgrade before 2017, you are definitely eligibled for the free upgrade in 2017! Period. As for whether the service in your place is capable or not for the upgrade, that will be another story to tell.

As for streamyx users, sorry to say, the announcement from TM side is somewhat ambiguous. So I am afraid that you guys won't get any useful info in here. I suggest you guys to wait for 2017 and see if any news came out from TM. Or you can just call TM and ask them directly.

I might terminate my Pro subscription, pay the penalty and then re-apply using different name if TM confirm nothing special will comes for Pro plan in 2017.
*
Then you may need to be hurry since there's not much days left for Dec. I bet there will be many new registration in this month. So god knows how long they will take to process your new registration. It will be a total disaster if they complete your new registration after 2017. rclxub.gif

You can choose to not to upgrade when they call you for your agreement.

QUOTE
especially for those who free upgrade from VIP 5 to VIP 10, they get VIP 20 next year?
No. Those who already got free upgrade from VIP 5 to VIP 10 will not be eligibled for the free upgrade next year.

Stumbled into this article just now. I think this is the best summary for the current free upgrade situation. Read this and you shall be crystal clear about the whole deal.

*
No worry bro. Afterall, the upgrade will only start in April next year. There's plenty of time for us to wait.

The reason I shared that article is because many people in here are still confused and kept asking similar questions (whether they are eligibled, whether they should cancel and reapply, what about streamyx user, etc.) No harm to read more about it so that they will know what to expect in 2017. smile.gif

Even call 100, go to TMpoint, even different person different answer, they also cannot give proper answer, they also will say no latest info yet. They also donno how to explain & no confident to explain.
*
Of course they can't and don't know how to explain. Unless this is the first time one is using TM service, if not, by now one should have knew that this is TM's infamous "SOP". Anything new that come out from them, they would never explain it in details and they never will respond professionally to the customers' enquiry. At the end, we the end users always have to figure it out by ourselves. Some times we even need to correct and teach those CS & front desk on the spot.

For example, when TM was establishing the new Unifi advance plan back in June/July 2015, did they announce it to the publics? Hell no. In fact, we discovered about the new plan in this very forum, via various public mass media platform. So we went to ask TM, and became the very first group to grab the new plan. When TM finally announced the new plan to the medias in Aug/Sept 2015, they gave RM20 discount to the early birds, while we the super early birds got nothing. At the end, we found out that we could go to TM point and apply for such discount. Again, where did we get such information? TM's announcement? Nope. We knew about it through the words of mouth of the brothers and sisters in here.

Believe it or not, most of the time media reports, even the strangers in the forum, are much more reliable than TM's PR department. LOL

QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 9 2016, 10:09 AM)
Back to topic, I still haven't got any SMS or email. Angry but nothing much can be done at the moment. sad.gif
*
I suggest you to wait for TM to set their new site up soon or later. So that you can check if your account is on their upgrade list.

http://www.tm.com.my/thankyousurprise (Not yet online)

If the result is still negative, then proceed from there.
