I was just updating my grabpay and inserted my credit card details into grab pay. suddenly after finish entering details i receive sms saying RM1 being charge into my card.

my question is why i was being charged for it? i already lodged a report to grab and received an email asking me to screenshot the transaction and they have escalated to the related department. Waiting for their response.

Anyone else have kena same issue?

powerbarr dear TS, very normal, even if you open a Paypal account or using Uber, same charges to apply - this is to make sure that your card is chargeable and active, once once you have using their service your BIG RM1 will return back to you.

normally these "test" charge are only reservation. just like they reserve RM500 when you check-in to RM150 hotels, or reserve RM200 when you swipe at the pump when all you wanted is RM50 of fuel.

it's not actual charge yet, and the balance reserved amount gets released back to you after a while if actual charge is not effected, or if partly effected. you'll get the effect of "refunded" when in actuality, money figure didn't really changed hands.

but paypal didn't reserve that RM10, but straightaway effect an actual charge into their hands. if you don't claim back, ....

okay okay. It's just 1 ringgit. it's not about the amount. it's about no notification given. i used paypal too and didn't make noise cause they tell you about charging your card to test the card. grab didn't. and i haven't encounter others except for paypal.

thanks all

I had to register again when I opened Grab app in my new phone today.
Like TS, I was surprised to see MSOS SMS saying RM1 will be charged. I received no prior notification about them testing the card with this RM1 transaction, and certainly no information on how whether it is ever going to be returned to me. It was only recently that I added a credit card to my Grab account and there was no testing whatsoever.

Now, I have PayPal and PayPal informed me very clearly about this "testing" with new CC, which I had no issue with. The issue with Grab Pay is that it does not tell you why they charge the RM1, and whether it will be refunded, how it is going to be refunded (will it be kept as store credit?) and when it is going to be refunded.

Remarks like "aiyah, only RM1", "No need to test card?", etc show how shallow people can be. And I am sure those who gave such remarks will think it is OK if their favourite establishment suddenly charges them RM1 first to test the card, when they pay with certain credit card without mentioning anything about it being refunded later. I don't know how you guys earn your money, but mine is earned the hard way and I try not to have mine stolen, even if it is just "mere" RM1.

It will be refunded to your cc itself.
If you use debit card, it will reverse the RM1 to your default debit card account (usually Savings acc)

Yup, I proceeded with the cc registration after googling and finding this thread. Still, you get the drift.

The "charged" amount. Or we call it authorisation amount was charge deduct under credit limit, and the rm1 will not appear at ur statement at all in ur life.
So whats the problem to decide how they refund and its all on the bank side.

Even dispute for cc happen, they will ask u to wait for statement listed the amount, then only fill dispute form.

In short, they just hold the money.

Hi all, what is the difference between Topping up my GrabWallet with credit card and Linking my credit card to GrabPay?

Aren't they both serve the same purpose?

Grab Wallet is credit funds you can buy with your credit card which is also vortual money

Link credit card to grabpay means whenever you book a ride your credit card will be charge at month end

On why is this practice still continue, is beyond me. All other apps I used don't do this. Lazada, Shopee Amazon, to name a few.

The thing is I already registered my credit card on grab app, but when I change my phone, even with the same number the payment method removed. I need to pay RM 1 again just to register. Is this still 2016?

Grab tech is stupid.

I cancelled the card linked to Grab. Then I use grab overseas, everything gone smoothly.

All done, by the time I got back to home... noticed the payment cannot go thru, grab asking me to pls change card...
