Lens will significantly affect your photo result.
Personally I dont see too much difference between old and new sensor.

Better investment will be lens IMO biggrin.gif

i dunno what the hype is about with wide angle.
yes they are useful but most of the time you take in so much field of view that unwanted clutters(rubbish, people, etc.) cannot be avoided.
you end up cropping and at the same time drop the IQ.
might as well shoot using longer focal length.

also many wide angle lenses are not sharp corner to corner and dun get me started with the vignetting.
*
We all greedy, and when time comes, you just wish you have all.
Imagine you squeeze through crowd surrounding lion dance performance, and the lion are very near to you, you'll need ultra wide to capture.
For me 12mm m43 focal almost ok but there's time I really wish I have 7-14mm lens, pretty sharp corner ( for ultra wide )

pair the 7-14 with 12-100mm in your camera bag and your good to go!  thumbup.gif

Really wish I could upgrade to 12-100, and add 7-14
No justification for spending money sad.gif as my current 12-40 + 40-150 + mc14 works wonder for me. I would give up 12-40 easily, but damn I love my 40-150 f2.8 pro wub.gif

Anyone knows if Panasonic Malaysia do promotions or discounts for their lenses and cameras? Where to follow them? I look through their official website and FB, very little activity on photography section.
*
Error 404 : Marketing budget not found biggrin.gif
If they did, good. My friend attended one of their rare workshop for free, and walk away with few hundred ringgit worth of discount coupon, upgrade his lens immediately.

Those events mostly aim for new user, for new owner to learn and get to know their own camera.

Welcome to the club. Good move on ignoring Mk3. Essentially the same camera, just a rehash with a new processor. Minor improvement in noise reduction, and controls. For the price, better Mk2.

Am having a feeling that someday you will sell off your other gear and go all out with m43. :-)

As for tricks, you need to take time to learn of its Menu system. Almost every button on the camera (including some of the Arrow keys) can be customized, so it is worth spending time to read the manual. I am still finding new gems on and off when I take time to explore the menu.

For custom settings, this is what I do:
1. Enable Super Control Panel
2. Enable Large SuperFine jpg
3. Turn Off noise reduction

One more thing, if you're sticking with the kit lens, the auto lens cap (LC 37C) is a very good accessory. In fact, it was due to the lens cap that made me like photography due to its convenience. No need to remove lens cap whenever you want ti shoot, and lens is always protected.
*
4. Turn off Keep Warm Color.

For a sub RM 500 telephoto lens, really cannot ask for anything more. At 40mm, it is ok but at the longest end, corners are soft and very prone to flare. But good enough for occasional tele shooter. Focus is reasonably fast in good light, though low light focus is not that good.

I shot the Supermoon 2 days ago. I will upload my photo here for you to judge on your own when am back in KL this Sunday.

IMO, no point getting thr Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 unless you use it a lot. Between that and the new 12-200mm f3.5-6.3, I would probably get the new lens if I have to choose between them, or even perhaps the Olympus 75-300mm given the price difference.

Or we can all wait for the 100-400mm f4.5. brows.gif
*
oh I love my 40 150 f2.8 pro, the image quality, bokeh and color wub.gif so much so that after getting my unit, the 12 40 f2.8 pro lens become just normal lens rolleyes.gif

wan ask gx85 + 12-35 f2.8 vs a6500 + 18-105 f4, which one better for travel videos for food, night market, sceneries and some vlogs.
*
I would ask back one question: if you intended to stick to only this setup, or will probably upgrade lens in future.
The 12-35 f2.8 are sharp lens, while 18-105 f4 are no where near. If will upgrade better lens in future, then can consider A6xxx or even jump to A7III which are really good body.

QUOTE(COOLPINK @ Mar 19 2019, 01:37 PM)
f2.8 vs f4 lens i think it would balance out the night shots.
*
But f2.8 lens on m43 still give you f2.8 exposure, which helps low light with higher shutter speed.

QUOTE(Wild Honey @ Mar 20 2019, 08:28 AM)
Go with primes. When night fall, I always shoot with primes like 25mm f1.7 and 17mm f1.8. MFT lenses are really compact, so taking 1 or 2 extra lenses with you should not be a problem.
*
For lazy zoom lens people like me, below are tempting drool.gif
But the size ( next to panaleica 12 60 ), and likely the price will be big issue sad.gif

f2.8 lens will help in low light as will the bigger aps-c sensor.
so they balance each other out giving equal almost performance in low light according to the setup.
*
Ya but f2.8 lens mostly are more expensive on larger sensor system as size grow.

I keep dream but didnt upgrade to A7III, due to around-RM10K price tag of f2.8 GM lens cry.gif

I really really hopes it's not over expensive. I like Oly 7-14 f2.8 lens but couldnt justify because the focal length are not for day to day usage.
This 20mm-50mm ( 35mm equi ) range are way useful.

but the GM lens is so high res, more useful for A7Riii because of the 47mp

if wanna use only for A7iii the GM lenses are overkill liao imo

Ya but sadly when I check the f4 G lens, IQ quite bad sad.gif f4 barely usable. Need wait Tamron release more f2.8 zoom lens only can jump ship.
Stick to m43 for now.

QUOTE(TrialGone @ Mar 20 2019, 05:02 PM)
Not really. Depends on lens quality as well. FF lens can be cheaper than m43 cause it doesn't need to be sharper due to bigger pixel on FF if both have same mpixel. M43 lens can be more expensive cause the sharpness has to be very good on a smaller sensor with higher megapixel density.

Also u cannot compare f2.8 FF lens to f2.8 m43 lens. On equivalent bokehness, the f2.8 will look like f5.6 on FF. Yes, there will be less light but since it has much bigger sensor, it also collect more light than m43 so really it balance out.
*
Yes bokeh and higher sensitive sensor are advantages for FF sensor, but my concern still shutter speed.
Not sure if got article to support or not, but in theory higher ISO will lower dynamic range ? Thus large aperture ( thus higher shutter speed and/or lower ISO ) gave good dynamic range ?

I will get a FF if can get a super good deal for it. But for now none yet haha.

Pana 10-25 f1.7 will be the best all rounder lens. Wide angle to portrait length and good for low light.
*
I will try resist urge to jump ship or change system for 2-3 years.
One, see how far can m43 stretch on image quality and dynamic range ( seems to slow or stop recent year )
Two, see which of these mirrorless FF system wins ( Canon sure got fanboy support, Sony can sustain immerse competition or not, Nikon Z doh.gif , Panasonic lonewolf )

QUOTE(COOLPINK @ Mar 21 2019, 02:35 PM)
Yes higher iso will lower the dynamic range.
Got article to support this like 10 years ago haha.

Here is a chart as sample

I remember seeing something like this, but wow didnt realize dynamic range dropped that much. ISO 6400 dropped 1/3 already doh.gif

Anyone has the 60mm f2.8? How is the lens so far? I'm not a macro shooter, but I got an offer for RM 800 for a used one. What do you guys think of the value for it?
*
QUOTE(Wild Honey @ Mar 22 2019, 01:43 PM)
I actually have a priority list of lenses to get (to prevent myself from succumbing to excessive GAS), and the Macro is the last on my list. However, it is still on the list. So now that RM 800 looks like a good price, so am considering lar.

My list actually goes like this:
1. The top of my list is actually the 10-25mm f1.7, but that lens oso not out yet leh.
2. Next is the Sigma 56mm f1.4, bu now is still expensive since it is new.
3. Next would be the Olympus 75-300mm, but that one no good offer yet.
4. So now considering the Oly 60mm lor.

Am planning to use the Oly 60mm as a portrait lens with a tighter crop for street photography where I can be a bit more discreet. Also, somehow I feel that 45mm still has a bit of distortion for very tight portrait shots like the classic head and shoulder, so 60mm should do the trick. These are my thoughts lar.
Ahh ok. But today's price of a new Oly 60mm is around RM 1450 or $350 so I guess price has come down a bit. Will go have a look this weekend on the condition of the lens.
*
It's sharp and lots of micro details, just like macro lens. It's slow at focusing too, just like macro lens tongue.gif
I think might be too slow for street.

QUOTE(Wild Honey @ Mar 22 2019, 02:18 PM)
Money lar brother. The Oly 75mm is so expensive.  bruce.gif  bruce.gif

Oly 75mm f1.8 is really really damn sharp lens, and focus as fast as most m43 prime.

This seems interesting, here in Malaysia got any shop can test/view?

I did purposed JB design grip long long time ago, via Amazon, for EM5 ( yeah that old ), solid product.

QUOTE(Wild Honey @ Mar 22 2019, 08:16 PM)
I think for focus limiter should help. Need to do some testing on the AG soeed then.
Haha, no lar.. I won't be getting the 75mm as it is a very popular lens where the prices don't drop much. Hence am gping for the more affordable option. 😁
*
Doesnt help for me. What I read is macro lens are slower in focus.

QUOTE(vijai @ Mar 25 2019, 12:00 PM)
Hi Guys,

Anyone bought camera or lens from CamWorld?   I want to buy the 12-40mm Pro lens and they are selling it at RM2488 online when everyone else is selling higher than that, cheapest being RM2864.

I asked them about warranty and they say it's Olympus Malaysia warranty.   I asked if I purchase it online and self collect the next day at The Curve,  but they refused self collect even when I explain that I'm staying nearby.

The price is attractive but something about them doesn't seem right.   So, asking you guys before I purchase it.
Secondly, has anyone tried the Tokina 11-16mm  on Olympus with an adapter?   is it good?
*
Could be legit deal, you can get good deal for camera body OR lens, when they separate it from bundle-box-set. That's how I got EM1-II body cheap, they remove the 12-40 bundled lens.

QUOTE(Wild Honey @ Mar 25 2019, 02:32 PM)
RM 14k + RM 8k = RM 22k =  EM 5 II + Oly 25mm  f1.2 + Oly 40-150mm f2.8 + Oly 7-14mm f2.8 + Oly 12-40mm + Oly 12-100mm f4

You decide bro.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif
*
No need duplicate 12-40 and 12-100, the budget goes into EM1-II upgrade rolleyes.gif

the S1's grip isn't really that comfortable too. because the body already so thick, the grip isn't as deep as the G9's, i feel. So if your hand not very big then it feels very insecure to hold it in 1 hand (especially when you're pairing it with a huge-ass lens like the 50mm)
*
I agreed. Just back from Lumix S1/S1R touch and try event, that big grip somehow dont feel comfortable.

OMG the weight is real, remind me of my friend's 5D4 + 24 105 sweat.gif

After years of using Olympus mirrorless system, even with 40-150 pro lens, I can hold comfortably almost whole day.
Lumix S1 + 24 105 f4 kit lens, my finger muscle strained after 15 minutes holding doh.gif but I suspect un-ergonomic grip contributed as well ( or at least dont fit me well ).
