Hi sifus,

I'm newbie in photography.. Just know how to press the snap picture button on camera.. Totally zero knowledge on settings.. Will leave my camera to fully auto mode..

Hence, which should be a better choice for me? RX100mk2 or G7x mk2 ?

Generally will be using this camera for vacation use.. Need to flip over the screen so can take selfie is a must.. that's the only few criteria i am looking into right now.. If can no need to turn the knob on the camera lense to get a sharp shoot..

Can sifu please advise?

Both camera are capable. Only thing is u prefer touchscreen (G7xmkii) or evf (rx100mkiii)? Though not sure why u put rx100mkii in your choice since it is older model and doesnt even have touchscreen unless cause its cheaper.

Hi Sifu,

yes due to budget issue have to settle down with mk2 ..

I guess getting g7 mk2 will be a wiser choice, considering it's the latest model ?

Both the model mention have screen that can flip up and take selfie correct ?

Photo wise, both is able to produce nice and sharp photo.

I got experience on rx100mk2
If you plan to use it to record video as well, I can tell rx100mk2 can produce very smooth focusing.
But I am not sure about the G7x mk2 of the video, you can just go to the shop to test it out.

The way I test of the video is, two object one is front and one is far back, point the camera to the front object, see how fast it can focus
Then point it to the back object, check how smooth of the camera can change focus from the front object to back object and the speed also.
Then point back to the front object
The result must not jerking and hard to focus

If you do not do video, just pick one that you feel good will do.

Then go for g7. Touchscreen itself is very handy. Never understood why sony never put touchscreen in any of their compacts. This is 2016, danggit.

NICE!
i am really satisfied with that camera,
but when i take group selfie, only the person who held the camerawill get sharp image, others behind him a bit will blur and out of focus.

Do you know any forum to discuss about this camera?

Group selfie at close range prefer just use smartphone. There is a technical reason behind i.e. sensor size affect depth of field but too lazy to explain.

Coz front hp camera is using fix focus... So front n all the way back is sharp.
Ur camera using variable focal length so u need to understand DOF

Ummmmm......coz phone camera has smaller sensor thus "equivalent" dof is huge i.e. front to back will be in focus. Not "fix focus".....actually what is fix focus?????

Non-zoom aka Prime. biggrin.gif Which is not the reason why handphone pics are in focus.

Incorrect. You can use fixed focal length lenses and it will be the same, focusing will still be off.

The correct reason is as explained by DaddyO.

His camera's aperture is very wide, on handphone they may say f/2.8 but when you factor in sensor size and all the DOF comes to about that of an f/8 - f/11 range.

As for wefie photos, usually people raise it up high so that focal plane alone helps keeping the DOF area covering most faces.
