Need advice (aging pc), upgrading or scrap?

To be honest, I think you should not sell things that is about to break down to your friend.Better get him to buy new parts. |

Could be too old, could be overheat, could be the solder is no longer strong enough to hold and etc.Components breakdown but no longer being manufactured therefore can't be replaced. |
